I used your code and got some credits. I will search and find a teacher and see how it goes. Thank you Alex
My Spanish journey started with audio courses (Pimsleur 1-5), and that got me to about the A2 level. For the past year, I've had video lessons 3 times per week on one of italki's competitors and am now more or less at the B2 level. I use the Anki application to study in between lessons. It is going very well, but my main stumbling blocks currently are: conjugations (especially the irregular verbs), and confidence in speaking. Thanks, Alex, for talking about your Spanish journey - it encourages those of us who are also on that path!
Stick with it, Jim! You’ve got this! Find every opportunity you can for speaking practice 🤓 that’s the key!
@@alex-wittman Thanks, Alex. Additionally, I believe it is very important to study every day - which is sometimes difficult, because there are days sometimes when "you just don't want to do it."
This is great advice. Most adults simply cannot learn a language by "immersion." Italki is a great platform for learning and if you're going to be living in a Spanish speaking country, the benefit of being able to choose teachers from that specific place can't be overstated.
I wish learning Spanish was as easy as just hearing it all the time 😅 but for the majority of adult learners, it requires a much more focused approach! Yesssss, so valuable to be able to connect with native tutors from the country where you plan on living/traveling!
I didn't see the video yet so maybe my comment will change, but I would say that nobody can learn a language by "immersion". Immersion is a great tool obviously, to grasp the right pronunciation and learn the lingo of the place and the natives, but as I mentioned it's just a "tool", you NEED to work on the language yourself, I mean they're a bunch of people who lives in Japan for business for YEARS, they hear Japanese every single day and yet can't hold a basic conversation, maybe because they're not interested by the culture or the language, they're here especially for working and stay with people who speak English, but we can't deny the effectiveness of the immersion, because you're brain is regularly exposed to the target language, your ears as well so you developed a better comprehensive skill and so on
Well, sorry for the long text, have a nice week 🙏🏼☀️
Your Spanish is so good! Learning Spanish is fun
You have been a source of inspiration 💕
This is so good. Thanks Alex.
I’m so glad you found it helpful, Jane!
Great video! I will have to take a look at italki!
Yes, and please let me know if you have any questions, Cindy! I don’t know where I’d be without italki!
Super awesome video, thanks for sharing your session! You’re doing great! ❤
Thanks for watching, Lainey! I’d love to hear about your language learning journey 🤓 what resources do you find most helpful??
It's possible...but why do it? And over all, just isn't fair. I never heard about Mexicans attacking gringos because they didn't speak Spanish here... But I, as a Mexican, I'm afraid of go to USA without English, even just as tourist, for the real risk of a crazy Karen attacking and yelling at me for don't speak English.
Btw... Sorry for my English, isn't my language and I'm live in México.
I definitely don’t think anyone would attack me if I didn’t speak Spanish….that’s not why I was nervous! It was just that old fear of making mistakes/being wrong 😅 knowing Spanish has made my life in Mexico so much smoother & more enjoyable!
That was fantastic. I am moving to Queretaro in a few weeks. I have been living in Mexico for a year, but now I want to really commit to getting comfortable speaking Spanish. Thank you.
Wishing you all the best with your Spanish!
Wow, i just assumed you spoke spanish. You're spanish is very good.
Cool video. I have used Baselang but not iTalki I may give it a go. I am heading that way on the 23rd. I am excited.
Check it out! I think it’s a good idea to try different platforms to see which one is the best fit. As you progress, italki would be an excellent option for conversation classes!
Great video!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
¡Video fantastico! Me voy a apuntar. 🤗
That’s also my issue! Italki should help a lot. That, and listening to songs and shows etc…
Hi Alex. Your Spanish is great! I had no idea!!! 🙂
Thank you, Evelyn! I might try to do a few videos in Spanish this year. We’ll see!
I have used it in the past and it is great. I need to revisit italki again!
Mucho éxito Alex
I am attending an immersion school in Oaxaca in February-5 hours a day every day for 2 weeks! I am sure it will be tiring but I hope to improve a lot. When I get back I think I will use italki! Gracias!
Yessss, italki is perfect for keeping the momentum going! Wishing you all the best with your Spanish, Martha!
I hope you improve a lot
4:54. Oh my god! I relate exactly with that... I will do SO WELL in Spanish Classes in highschool, but I could barely speak it qwq... Now, I could speak a little better than I did 3-ish years ago, but I spent like most of that time actually using Spanish in like online-spanish speaking video game communities since I couldn't really talk with my school friends IRL due to the pandemic. XD I wish school had more of a focus on speak and listening, because (from I think) Human being had to learn how talk and listen first before writing systems were even invented. No one learns a language by actually writing/reading first especially when writing systems weren't even invented yet during those times ;o;. And, once your able to natural produces ideas mentally (which comes first through speaking/hearing)... writing will come more natural since you wouldn't have to think about like the grammar rules so often while writing or reading. Ultimately, It will just be more natural!
Awesome Job with your progress! owo)b
As a language learner myself, it's encouraging to hear how much you improved over the last few years. Your accent in 2017 wasn't bad at all or all that American. Now you sound much more precise in your speech and your pronunciation approximates a native speaker. For instance your "r"s roll much better and your vocabulary is richer.
I am a big fan of Italki and take a lot classes as well. I have many teachers and have learned a lot from them. One of my teacher gives a list of my mistakes or words that I am lacking. The following lesson, I go over the words again and try to use them. One thing I am considering is to ask my teacher if there are any areas in my speech that could use improvement. A lot of tutors are reluctant to be honest and it can take a lot of courage on the part of the student to ask. However, I really think it can bring a language learner to another level. Best of luck in the new year and keep up with your Spanish! It's certainly paying off!
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, Simon! I think the key with italki is trying different teachers to find people you really give with and who understand your language goals!
Your pronunciation is good
Having a interesting fluent speech
Your accent sound good too.
Congratulations 🎉 It is a pleasure to hear you speaking in my own language 😮
Thank you for the kind words, Piero!
I'm sorry: I stopped the video around 2:20. I'm going to italki NOW! I'll come back and watch the rest of this video but I've GOT to see what this program is all about.
Yes, go check it out! I wouldn’t be where I am today without italki! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Great video, one of your most informative. I have my 1st lesson scheduled!
Let me know how it goes!!
@@alex-wittman I was very nervous but it was great--it got me excited again about my language learning journey!! I plan to create a regular schedule of in-person lessons on iTalki.
No manches! hablas muy bien, te la rifaste, two thumbs up!
I’d love to hear about your language learning journey, Brian! Have you ever tried italki?
@@alex-wittman No I didn't, although This is my name, I am from México, actually I am always learning English, I like to watch your videos because I practice. Does iTalkie have English courses?
Ja ja ja...exelente.. 😎👍

Actually if you ask for a Quesadilla in CDMX they don't put queso on it. I know is really weird.
I'm a Spanish teacher. Your Spanish is great! I've been using italki for Hebrew and Italian. I highly recommend it!!!
I’m glad to hear you’ve had such a positive experience on italki, Jenny! I feel so grateful for the connections I’ve made through the platform 🫶🏼
What a great video! Thank you Alex. I'm new to Spanish and would like to try Italki, but after hearing your teacher say that the country the teacher is from may matter for slang etc, I don't know how to choose a teacher. I don't know which countries I want to visit. Is there an accent (and vocabulary) that is more universal for Latin American Spanish?
This is awesome. The crazy thing is many live in the states for years that never learn the language so i'm sure many have their intimidations or blockages with learning a language in general.
They say learning your first second language is the toughest! You have to overcome that mental block that you mentioned. For me, I had to learn to be okay with making mistakes 🫠 it’s all part of the process!
You have very good pronunciation!!!
Thank you!
Hablas español muy bien! Felicidades! Qué sigas aprendiendo!
Muchísimas gracias 🤓
Muy buen español, éxito total
Hola Alex, another great video! Is there any way to provide subtitles to your videos in Spanish? I use the Spanish subtitle option whenever available when watching TV or UA-cam to assist with my learning as you have recommended that but I haven't found that option on your videos when looking add subtitles, only English is offered. I hate to ask for anything as you give SO much to your community but I think it would be awesome!
You sound like a native tapatía! 😃
🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 thanks for watching, Maggie!

¡Muchas felicidades! ¡Sigue adelante! 😉👌✔️
Your Spanish is awesome,,,sign me up
Definitely check out italki, Mary Joan!
I'm trying every day

Hey Alex enjoy the videos I’ve been going to Mexico over 30 years I’ve only got serious learning Spanish in the last five years and i’m still basic beginner …help!… Will this work for me because I see you’re carrying on a conversation and I can’t do that
No intro bumper music?
Switching things up!
What else helped you besides italki??
Nothing has helped me as much as working with professional tutors and talking with native speakers, but other habits that have helped round out my learning have been listening to Spanish-language music & reading in Spanish (start with books you know really well).
@@alex-wittman thanks for responding, I've been reading books and watching UA-cam videos, now I just need to communicate more.
Felicidades Alex por tu Español !!
Muchas gracias! 😊
Alex, I just tried to sign up but it won’t accept my password even though I followed the instructions. I didn’t see a ‘help’ section. Any thoughts?
Any luck, Mari? If you send me an email, I’m happy to reach out to italki on your behalf!
