This movie reminds me of how special Audrey Hepburn was. She was always fantastic in everything she played in.
I have seen this movie in my childhood so many times. I watched it with my mom, it was our thing. I’m going to re watch with her for xmass. Whenever in life I hear the word wait, in my head: “just you wait Mister Higgins, just you wait..” 😂
The fashion in this movie omg
It won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. :)
Even magazines would have craved so many reviews with the fashion trends depicted in this film.
The costumes in this film were designed by Sir Cecil Beaton, who designed haute coutures for high society figures and worked as a photographer for the British Royal Family.
It is set in Edwardian times.

PS, I grew up on it too. I was sheltered as a kid, but this is one of the few live action movies that weren't Christian or Disney that I could watch. :)

My very first entry to singing musical television was this in school. We did the book for English and watched this many many times....weird for a boys only school. Let's just say, our class did very well in the English exams. Brings very fond memories to me.

Love the songs and Audrey Hepburn's performance.
Audrey did well, but her singing voice wasn't up to par, so even though she worked hard on her singing voice for this movie, after filming they dubbed all her words with a professional singer named Marni Nixon. However there were six words of her singing voice that they didn't remove from the movie, and there are some UA-cam videos showing Audrey's singing voice. If you listen carefully to the following video, you will hear her voice. You will notice that the words "Sleep, sleep, I couldn't sleep tonight" were sung so well that those are the only words that they didn't dub. I saw this film for the first time at 13 at school (can you believe it!! Yes 13 -- most girls that age these days would turn their noses up at the mere mention that they had to watch such 'rubbish' lol). I adored it then. I adore it now. That along with Sound of Music and Mary Poppins fascinated me. Of course I also loved Old Yeller (seen much younger but seared in my mind and perhaps responsible for my life-long love of dogs) and other classics. These gave me an everlasting fascination and love of film and cinema xo

Yes, it's a WB movie according to the credits, but I think Paramount owns it now or something. The VHS tapes used to have a Fox logo.

Audrey Hepburn, is beautiful, No. It must be in the genes.
So in Roman Holiday, she plays a stressed out (beautiful) princess, In My fair Lady, a BROKE woman trying to pass for high society. So, which one is it?
All movies, beautiful. She is cute and quirky, just these movies confuse me.
With the exception of 2 or 3 great songs, the most intolerable half-yelled grating tracklist of all time
i actually really hate this movie for vorgiving the proffessore to be this narcicistic rude asshole without any repercussions for his behavior. He didn't deserve any kind treating from Eliza after he treated her so poorly. andi believe if a woman had a say in the matter of the script she wouldn't have returned to him. I don't want to hear any excuses of "oh the film is just old" i can't understand how anyone could say this was their favourite movie with such a heartless character who doesn't face any repercussions but in the end gets rewarded
sorry for the rant i just had to say it
honestly the only good things about this movie are the fashion and elizas and the proffesores mothers personality (except until the end where Eliza returned what no respectable women in her right mind would have done)
I remember I used to like this film as a kid for the music and the spectacle, but now I think about it, the underlying attitudes are pretty questionable. (Bernard Shaw's original script I hear is different, especially regarding the outcome -- Eliza marries Freddie and goes off to run a flower shop in Kensington, apparently. Perhaps the original had a deeper message? Can't say without re-reading/watching).
