Wire Wrapping Techniques-Swan Clasps & Figure 8 Links-My Process!

- In this video I show you how I create my swan clasps and figure 8 links in bulk so they are available when I need them! I finish off the process with tumbling them to harden and shine them up. No filing needed!
Materials I used are:
18 Gauge Round Sterling Silver Wire
18 Gauge Round Copper Wire
1" for links and 2" for clasps
Tools I used are:
Round Nose Pliers
Flat Nose Pliers
Flush Cutters

Hi. Here’s a suggestion I figured out the hard way: Take a little scrap piece of copper wire and string the components on it before putting them in the tumbler. Then you don’t have to fish for each one!

when i make my jump rings i tumble them! this also gets rid of any little burs. I make a 3/4 to 1 inch jump ring out of 12g -14g wire,(the heavier gauge the better, keeps them on better) then I place all the jump rings on the larger jump ring , then close the larger ring. then tumble them, no need to close the smaller jump rings, almost all will stay on the larger ring. No more burs, and they are stronger! Oh--I also store the jumps on the larger ring, no more tangled mess, and no more sanding off the burs---Yay!!! another tip, I store the jump rings on the larger ring-- in one of those pop up pill minders. A pill minder for each gauge of jump rings! Will try this with the clasps so i don't have to do a search and rescue!

Where did you learn to put them in the rock tumbler? I have never heard that and because of my arthritis it's hard to make jewelry but I must have watched a thousand videos 😊

Hi there, thanks for inquiring! SS shot polishes and work hardens the metal really nice. It also smooths out the rough edges and saves a lot of time hand filing and polishing. 2 hours is pretty standard I think. I’ve always done 1 1/2 - 2 hours with great results. Hope this helps! ☺️

I watched your tumbling technique, so I did purchase a tumbler, but one with a black rubber barrel. I used steel shot that you have listed below and put a drop of hand soap in and put in 5 pairs of sterling ear wires and about 7 lightweight finger rings. After about 1 hour I removed the jewelry and found that black rubber from the barrel was on most if the pieces. I was able to remove the black rubber using dawn dish liquid, but of course that was extra time to handle each piece. Do you have any suggestions as to how to keep the rubber off the jewelry? What did I do wrong? Should I use a tumbler with a plastic barrel?

I did, however, return the rubber barrel tumbler today that I had ordered from Amazon, and I purchased a plastic barrel tumbler similar to yours, using the link that you have provided with your other information. If you use it, it must be good for the pieces that we make. I watch all of your new videos, and repeatedly watch your others, any that I can find by Zurick Designs. Thank you for sharing all of your designs and talent.
