A Mass. Eye and Ear Pediatric Surgical Day

- Meet Sam. She is having surgery at Mass Eye and Ear today. Sam and her parents are sharing their experience to help show others what a surgical day can be like here. Sam's experience is only to give you an idea of what will happen when you arrive at Mass. Eye and Ear for pediatric surgery. It is important to note that every child is different. Your child's experience may differ from what is shown in this video. We encourage you to share it with your child, but recommend you view the video first to determine if it is suitable. Please fast forward past the segment featuring Sam being put under anesthesia around the 3 minute mark. This is a real induction that accurately displays the effects and stages of anesthesia during induction. Your child will not be aware of this stage. Please contact the office of your doctor or the Child Life Specialist for additional information and to answer any questions you may have.

I hope your surgery goes well! Praying for you! Just like when I'm instructing new pilots in a plane, I explain step by step, especially on Day 1, since that's what surgery is like. Ask questions, be very healthy beforehand, and remember, always hope for the best!

i was having ear operations to put grommets in my ears because doctors thought i had hearing loss and it turns out i had APD (Audio processing disorder) instead and all my surgeries were not needed at all and also recently got diagnosed with Autism. So yeah i was quite traumatized by all the operations i had as a kid

There is virtually no information about what they do when they prepare her, how they do the surgery and what arrangements she will have on or in her after surgery. The only information in this video is how the team expects the parents and the child to behave, which gives reason for a lot of thoughts.
