I was wondering about that. I painted a lamp and the paint came off very easily :/ . She used a paint with primer in it, maybe that makes the difference?
Kitchen knobs would get handled a lot more on average. I personally wouldn't spray paint door knobs either, as it doesn't last. I'd spray paint the hinges and buy a new door knob. You can get them for 16-20 bucks.

Mejiaandluna we used a bench grinder with a wire wheel. You can find them at harbor freight for pretty cheap!
