I appreciate the positivity but I am trying to remain pragmatic when it comes to George. My vets are honest and at this point we don’t know if he will return to work or how comfortable we can make him. I appreciate the well wishes but saying things like “he will get better” is just false hope until we know that. At this point, I am not expecting him to return to competition. It is too early to tell but I would be surprised if he did. Thanks for the well wishes but also please try to realize that there’s a lot more to the exam and our plan that what I even said here and even if there’s similarities with your horse, it’s likely not the exact same thing or treatment plan.

Shelby Dennis ; Please don’t b so hard on your subscribers. The ones that give you the suggestions that you don’t want. Just read what they have to say n go on. These people actually care about you n your horse n just want to help. I know that it’s heard to realize but they just want the best for you even if they don’t know you in person. People that tell you that your horse will get better is not trying to give you false hope, they are just trying to keep your spirits up n give you encouragement that things will b better. I have learned that with horses there is no quick fix n things like pulled muscles n etc will take about three or four times longer with horses to get over than humans. A lot of people understand this n they are just trying to keep you from being discouraged. You have a bright future n some beautiful horses. Hang in.

@@barbaragreene6592 I get where she's coming from. I lost my horse of 13 years a little over 3 months ago, and people kept saying "oh he'll get better" "he will be alright". He wasn't, he had to be euthenized a day later. It was false hope that they where trying to give me. So in conclusion it was irritating that people kept saying that my horse would be okay AFTER I said HE wasn't okay and would be more than likely have to be put down.
Shelby even said in the video that she and her vets didn't know what George's future would hold.

Amazing how everyone seems to be an expert online. Especially the horse community. I've been involved with horses over forty years and am smart enough to know that everyone has their own way of doing things...We should respect that and also consider learning a few new things. Nobody is too experienced or too old to learn. Especially in the horse world . I'm sorry some people are judgemental and mean. Sorry for them and their ignorance.

I'm glad UA-cam suggested your video to me.
And... you go, girl, on the gelding. The same thing with early neutering is true in dogs--neutering before they go through puberty delays the closure of the growth plates on the bones, so they end up taller than they were meant to be genetically. Since dogs live such a shorter lifespan than horses that it is easier to do longitudinal and multi-generational studies on them. Not only do dogs that were neutered before puberty grow taller, they are at higher risk for joint injuries, particularly knee injuries (only just about the most expensive and limiting type of injury in dogs, of course) because those longer legs tend to mess up angulation and those longer legs do not come with greater bone diameter. Big body on toothpick legs is pretty much a guarantee of lameness problems. Seeing as horses all seem to be born with self destructive tendencies, higher risk of joint injuries would really motivate me to keep them intact until after they've gone through puberty.
The smartest old cowboy I ever knew said "a horse can't be a good handling horse if he doesn't know he's a horse." By 'good handling' he was talking about willingness to cooperate with humans. Just like toddlers, their full time job is learning how to be horses.

I feel so bad for horse owners here in Alberta this week. -30s with -40s wind chills. Sucks to be out for two minutes let alone how long some people need to be to get to the waters or haul hay etc. And if I were to get a horse I’d want a large one simply because I’m taller and feel and look really weird on a smaller to midsize horse. Having been on both average and taller horses I feel way more comfortable on tall horses. But it’s totally up to each individual person.

I'm sorry to hear about your George. And while I know it seems like things are at a low, this will improve. My horse broke his pelvis when he was 4 and was diagnosed with arthritis when he was 2. He's 14 now and has lived a full and happy life so far. I don't know you personally, but I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now and you always express an inner strength and resilience in your work. You will find a new normal in your horse, and while chronic conditions can be hard to deal with, I'm certain with proper care and management, George will be ok :)

If you ever want to try a temporary fix for frozen water, fill a milk jug with salt water or set a weighted rubber ball (like a jolly ball) and put them in the tank. If it's not too hard of a freeze, these will keep at least a spot open where it doesn't freeze over. And if the horses play with it, it helps break any ice that may form (but sometimes you'll find it out in the pasture somewhere lol) This was my go to until we got a Richie waterer.

Been a little bit since your last update, it was good hearing from you, even with the unfortunate situation with George, hopefully it isn't something too serious. As for gelding or not gelding, my family used to breed dogs and people would ask, "who are you going to breed that dog to?" and "Is this dog a breeding prospect?" and what not, when the dog was still only four or five months old, it was weird ...

@@Milestone-Equestrian And it is a special kind of awful when parents say "s/he will go to (fill in the blank top flight school)" and really mean it. I had a cousin whose parents were like that and, well, it was a special kind of awful. She did attend Harvard as expected but now, in her mid-30s and just started her family, her parents just don't understand why she won't let them have time alone with "their" grandbabies.

We share the same thoughts about winter and horses! 🇨🇦🧣🧤 There are never enough layers...lol! I didn't find this video "boring" in the least. I relate completely with keeping troughs open and those damned heaters. Plus...BABY PICS!!😍 Banksy will keep you busy in 2020. And I always take it as a given that, being a professional yourself, you utilize other professionals as well as your own largesse of experience to decide what it best for your horses! Thank you for sharing about George and I trust you will always do what is best for your animals. I truly hope it will be treatable. Stay warm and see you next video!

I live on Vancouver Island and have to go through the few days of cold as well. I use a heated water hose and heat water buckets which really helps. Now I just try to get out a number of times a day to scoop up the manure piles before they freeze. Looks like it's going to get warmer and wetter on Wednesday, I really hope so but until then I am just keeping warm.

Sorry in advance for anyone doesn't listen and becomes an internet vet when they usually don't know anything at all and use Google. I hope the precious boy gets better soon and I'm super anxious for you. George is so young and it would be so much of a shame if it's degenerative. He doesn't deserve this, he's too much of a good boy.

Thanks for sharing that horse ownership is hard .. really hard. While we always hope for happy rewards, but shit happens. I hope you will keep us updated on George ... I’m sure we are all sending horse hugs for good healing. You’re such a good horse momma ... keep on the path .... 🐴❤️

You have had a busy year already! 😳 I love how real you are and how you tell the haters to piss off 🙄 before they even say anything, because you know there out there. (Haters suck! Ooohh, I could go on a rant about that but you kind of did already, which is awesome.) The cold poses some unique challenges for horse lovers, for sure. 🥶 Before you know it, we'll all be bitching about how hot it is. Thanks for keeping it real, as always. (Banksy in jail is pretty funny by the way, except for jumping out part. Silly man!)

So sorry your 2020 is starting out like this, weather, injuries, vet bills. Poor Georgie! So glad Pogo survived his adventure in cord-chewing. But, Banksy is adorable, as usual. Hang in there. The days are getting longer.

Hi Shelby! I am SO out of the loop. I've had phone issues and life issues. But I got a laptop for Christmas and am getting everything set up so I will be binging your vids and trying to catch up. Just wanna say hope you had a good Christmas and New Year! 2nd, I am sorry to hear about George. I know what he meant to you and how happy you were to be able to own him and compete with him. I cannot believe how big Banksy is!!! And, some things never change. Sucks people have to be so rude, but totally respect your decision of not sharing client horses. That is what helps make you more of a professional compared to the internet trainers 😉😂 I will be catching up on your new horses too as soon as I get off work. But I just wanted to come by and say hello at least! PS: I am so glad we've not had a crazy winter in KY as of yet. I don't envy you and that weather lol

My boy Tank looks like your puppy! I haven't logged on there cause I forgot the pw, but you can still see em. Oh, I can't wait to catch up on your vids even more now!

Winter is for hibernating. If you need to do that for awhile don’t push yourself to post videos or feel bad if you don’t. You need some time off sometimes, too.

I can really feel you with 2020 not starting too well! Even my December got ruined when the absolute best and most gorgeous and loveliest mare at the riding school was put down due to a sudden nerve damage in the whole other half of her face and soon after that one other girl's really lovely gelding had to be put down at only nine years of age. After the new year one of the lesson horse's osteoarthritis
became worse again even though he obviously doesn't jump at all and a couple of other horses have had some things going on with their health too that have prevented them from working so the owners have been a little short on lesson horses at times and it is rather difficult to find good lesson horses with a good brain and health both at a reasonable price around here.

My sweet boy pulled something in his hind end when there was a lot of rain when he was coming back into work and took a good round of rest and very slow strengthening back into work. Finally like 6 months later he’s doing great. George will be good as gold soon enough!

Elizabeth Moody I appreciate it but at this time we really can’t say if he will or not so I’m trying to be realistic. The area that it is in is more finicky so long term we really cannot say, all injuries vary and I’m not going to get my hopes up when even my vet says it’s all up in the air right now.
