- Khruang Bin of Houston, Texas joined us for a performance in-studio this past Friday, November 11th. It was an amazing performance that was beautifully recorded and mastered by our friends at KVRX-FM. Here is the video filmed by the Good Morning Texas crew that will air on TSTV.
Watching in 2018. It's great to see how much they've grown musically and stylistically.
Laura Lee's bass has improved quite a lot now. She's great in the last album!
Yup, it seems like they started out as an ordinary rock band with a slight funk edge.
Yeah. He's more of a conventional rock guitarist here with some interesting ideas and voicings. That steely, crystal clear tone hasn't appeared yet! Laura now plays a bit like Duck Dunn and the like. A way more economic, tight bassist now than she is in this video. Great to see! Good bands are allowed to evolve naturally.
@Average Joe yeah he went from sort of a frusciante type vibe to a Hank Marvin/Spanky Alford/Eddie Hazel type of thing. Its not even fair to say hes a mashup of those 3...hes become Mark goddamn Speer! Those players just jump out to me when i hear him.
@@kevinlebrun2307 he has always done what he does now, just not in thew band. He grew up playing in an American church and his guitar hero is Ernie Isley
So cool to see the vintage Khruangbin. They remind me of the Police back in the day. They became polished and awesome, but you could tell early on that they had something raw and special to offer.
This drummer's barely moving and he gets a better sound out of a kit than most guys who sweat it haha, love u Khruangbin xx
If you watch the best drummers out there, especially jazz drummers, they all keep their elbows pinned to their side like that and most of the motion is in the wrists.
@@tequilamockingbird1732 Same thing with Marching Drum Line. Anyone who is actually trained as a drummer knows to play with their wrists.
Dudes been drumming since he was 3 years old, literally.
@@whatabouttheearth "literally"
His hands must be very tired
Hey guys they make jokes of hem in 2022 🤣 wrong time and space I m living in .
Just think, Laura still has those same strings on her bass to this day
Flatwounds baby!!!
For real? Wow
It's amazing how Mark and Laura still use the same guitar and bass to this day
That's a really good observation about how little "gear" matters.
Just think Laura still hasn't learned how to play the instrument
Back when Khruangbin was Khruang Bin
F*** yeah , they sound amazing now , but this is a gem of the past , love the way DJ played on this , loud and percussive and still in his nowadays groove/sound
@@Luske74 right...

Sick comment
Im Cambodian and i love how khruangbin uses a lot of khmer and thai influences in their music
I’m Cambodian too and kind of prefer this than traditional Cambo music. You have great taste btw - saw your Dank Music playlist. :)
authoroftheaccident thank you friend and same here, i do like listening to the khmer stuff from the 60s tho like pan ron n stuff :)
@@autisticbandit1160 Oh yeah I forgot, I do like all the rock n roll stuff too, like Ros Sereysothea and Sinn Sisamouth. But I don't know the names of many others.
authoroftheaccident same, my grand parents listen to them all the time and i forget the names of the artist
what is khmer?
Wow this little gem has been sitting around the corners of youtube for 7 years and I'm just now barely discovering it.
Add +1 year for me
+3 years for me.
From that to selling out radio city hall back to back nights in Manhattan in March . I was blessed to go to both shows as they return to ny in august for a show in Brooklyn where I will be at again . 3 times in one year of Khruangbin!!!
Watching this after having binged on all the other videos first is amazing.
It's neat that their hair hasn't grown hardly at all.
@@TheCalm25 those are wigs
So interesting to hear how heavy they were given that they're pretty chill now and Mark's guitar tone is often pretty clean. Fantastic performance and the tremolo picking.... Sooo awesome!
Khruangbin has a great combination: Diverse group. Great drummer. Beautiful female bass player who keeps it simple, monster guitar player, a good visual, and excellent music.
2:17 most if not all guitar players work their asses off for at least 3-7 years to acquire the technique to get to this level be able to do this and strut. Mark went the other way and wound DOWN from the peak of shredding. I want people to realize just what a great player he is. He can shred with the best of them any day with the cleanest chops and Lord knows he has the technique for it, but he CHOOSES not to.
Wow...2cymbals....
and she's using a pick....
His greatness is still the same...2022
Yooooo. My favorite band, especially live. Such a gem to find on a lunch break while puffin white widow. It’s the small things....
My goodness!!! This only makes me love them more!! They've been at it this long and have PROGRESSED tremendously. So fricking inspiring. And they sound good here too!!
I had the opportunity to see them live for the first time yesterday as they played in my city (Mexico City) and i must say that they are stunning musicians and composers, and yes, at this point in 2011, they didn't found their style yet, as they sounded here more like a surf-based, guitar-heavy, acid rock band, but it's impressive that even in that early years they were excellent musicians.
Hey I was at that show too!
@@findtheothers Great, man! It was an awesome show!
The raw beginnings. Love ut
Wow -- I've been listening to Khruangbin since their NPR Tiny Desk concert and I hadn't heard this early stuff before -- very nice!
It's a great pleasure to see this band making history, how the were and how they changed their sound within the time. From indie and surf to psicodelya.
the drummer has been sitting in the pocket to this day
I need a studio version of BIN BIN!!!
there is one ! you can find it here on youtube, it is a secret track pressed after side a ends on the TUSUY vinyl.
On a total addiction to these guys. Wow they sound so much different (and better) now. Night and day!
27.01.25 😂
I love Khruangbin ❤
It's crazy how young Laura looks and funny seeing such a old video from them 😅
Much love from Germany 🌠
They should play these songs sometimes live too in these days
Its fucking awesome 😂
They really should release Thing Thung ASAP , it's a banger !
This band should be a lot more famous. Wicked grooves!
They're selling out shows all over the world now.
They get hella exposure now😍
you got your wish
Sold out radio city :)
This comment aged well 🙏
This performance happened the day Skyrim came out
Always knew he was gay
The day I created my Steam account.
@@reedcrisis The day my son, I always forget his name... anyways was born.
Saw them this weekend. Epic performance! 2024
Greetings from 2019. Just found Khruangbin and soaking it all up!
And to think that 13 years later they’d be up for a Grammy for best new artist!!
guitar + bass + drum the magical essential trio to realize a dream and a magical tub
Khruangbin been good for a long time I see. Awesome to see them back in the day! As kids!
10 years on and the power of the wigs live on! 11/11/11 a date to remember (nov 23-2021)
the guitar has been updated through time as the spelling of the band's name -- but all remains sooooo goood!
Wigs?!
Love those guys. Always thought they were Beatles wigs with extensions.
Make the world go round! Beautiful!
love the Jimi Hendrix vibe.
interesting watch. They all spent 12 years learning exactly what to leave out and now they're exceptional. It's like the old story - "I didn't have time to write up the short version, so you've got thelong one"
Love this band! Interesting to see how their music has become more refined over the years...as have their wigs!
They are SOOOOOOOOOOOO Skilled at timing its insane :O
Lemme hear it for ma hommie on the Drums!
Dude knows how to tune his drums...they sound absolutely awesome !
I found this band like last year and I see this video is 8 years old. Jeez.
Dang! Back when Khruangbin was two words and Mark had a tortoise shell pickguard.
I noticed in the first part she was using a pick on her bass and then the second part using her fingers. I have not seen her use a pick on any of her videos accept this one.
Mark’s guitar playing has gotten so good
I'm blown away at how much he's improved over the years!
bro locked in
I hear a lot of Hendrix in this! Especially Bin Bin
Jimmy Hendrix like. Love'it!
I love the vintage camera look!
God they sounded so different back then...
Hendrix like
Yes, but same guitars
I love Khruag Bin, Jesus! 🔥
2:23 "There's that srv sound, which I fucking hate" -Mark
Exactly
Man I was too busy playing Skyrim when this came out to notice
good morning, Texas !!!! 🎉
me gusta mucho lo eclécticos que son y llevan el minimalismo al extremo... desde el sur bien al sur os saludo... Argentina.
Evolution❤❤❤
Would love to hear Thing Thung on their next album....
It's 2024 and this still slaps.
This is fantastic! You can almost see Mark! lol
LOVE this band!
they need to bring back these 2
This reminds me of Jamming with Crash, a complete super old Houston reference. This set design is incomparably more elaborate!
You're a goddess, Laura Lee! I fell in love with the sound before I ever knew... but the evidence is mounting and undeniable.
their old sound...before they really found their soul i reckon. still sounds good.
The sound guy must have turned Laura's bass up after about 1.48.
Definitely
And the guitar must have fired the sound guy after the gig
Isn't it amazing that they use the same instruments to this day? They've even talked about this in a few interviews.
This video from 2011 but it looks like the early 1990s! Amazing!
this was when the beast was at its full starvartion...epic...
They gotta release Thing Thung someday this shit slaps
in a slowed down version
Just preparing my bong
I just discovered this amazing band, and its funny how Laura's wig these days its a little bit larger😂like if the hair just grow also with them
Who has the chance should buy all the vinils of these guys as in 10 years they will be probably as big as The Queen
Fascinating early clip, almost Jimi Hendrix experience style power trio back then. So different now.
...que gran Banda
....
Well shit. They were awesome way back when in a different way!
Hidden gem
Laura was still developing her cool/sexy dance moves.
Wow, so awesome!
This is straight Thai north-eastern music style (call Mor-Lam-Sing หมอลำซิ่ง).
Same gear, different sound... Still excellent!!
Whow they developed a lot also fashionwise
Love all their stuff but I reckon kbin look back at this and rate this performance/vid as one of their all timers no doubt. So good its insane.
Killer grooves. Finally the bass appears from nowhere. Water tight band.
good stuff!!! like the bass player!!!
Can never forget about the strings on that bass
Amazing!!!
And Laura still has the same strings on her bass :)
talk about humble beginnings
They've been wearing those wigs for a loooong time
Mark uses an 8 year old guitar pick, and Laura Lee has the same bass strings she got with the bass. She literally plays the same strings today as you see her playing in the video. A lot of professional bass players go through a dozen or two sets of strings per year.
So different than the Khruangbin we know now! Bluesier..
Well said.... great to experience this earlier performance !
Still watching this 11/11/19
Great stuff
Some seriously Jimi Hendrix Experience DNA here.
Wow wow. Gem
Nice of you to remember to turn on the bass in the middle of the song.
+Hector Osbert fuckin sound guy.
the bass was on all the way through both songs
So it wasn't just me not hearing Laura.
Well, if you guys can't hear the bass lines all the time , Well, all can say is.. sorry guys.. you don't really have any fucking clue about bass
@@renatooliveira8123 to be honest, yes. Lol
That shirt😂😂 I do like this.
It's like modern khruangbin but during a car chase.
What have they been doing for 7 years? Really wondering
imslicc They released albums in 2015 and 2018 and have been touring the world. They blew up on the Internet this year. They've come a long way since this clip.
Can't say success was given to them that's for sure. They've been putting in that work, well deserved
listening to tons of different types of music, among other things
Putting in work and waiting for their break which they finally got. They're not spring chickens so its tough to drop your life and solely dedicate it to touring unless the return is there.
They fucking killed those 7 years! The khru is worldwide!!
Did they ever do a studio recording or release of these gems? I'd love to hear an early demo/EP of this harder edged stuff pre-TUSUY
yes on bandcamp and bin bin here on youtube
Watching now in April, 2020. DJ has downsized his kit and still sounds great. Mark is better now and plays less cliché. Laura is always...well, Laura but here she shows up audibly at about 1:50, and yeah she got hotter in her last video of 2019. I have pledged when this Pandemic is over and we can go out and play again I will see them in concert no matter what I have to do.
Back in the day the Khru played real Thai funk and sounded much heavier :)
BIN BIN!!
Texas Sunnnnn!!!!
Reminds me of early Black Sabbath. Nice.
Wow!
Whoa. Fire from inseption?! 😍✨
