- John Lydon talks about a Sex Pistols reunion, Sid Vicious and Malcolm McLaren, interviewed by Jonathan Ross February 9th 1990, I missed this show, but a friend recorded it by chance and loaned me the tape to copy, so this is now on Scotch L750, tape archive 483.

The legend who called out Saville before anyone else
And he was a kid when he did that a teenager and he got silenced by banned from bbc radio it’s just shocking
And yet they sound so similar

John Lydon is such a rarity. I would say he is singular. Brutal, honest, and genuine. And seeing how he has always stood by his wife, he's a fucking good man too. Total respect.
MAGA
people don't 'get praised for doing what's expected of them.
Not at all, broaden your horizon. He's turned out to be hypocritical and very banal. The latest album is simply an imitation of all previous PIL albums. He has nothing much to say at all.
I met im in LA he was very pleasant I was surprised how polite he was. I was a door girl at the club and we ushered him in Viper Room was nuts in the 90s when Johnny still owned it
😀@@lisanolan2382
Never judge a book by its cover loyalty to his wife in these troubled times total RESPECT good luck to both of you in the future
You determine your liking over someone by how ‘loyal’ they allegedly are to their wife..?
@@mysticheatedwine2172 I'm sure that was one of many reasons. But how much do you want to read?
@Michael Davidson
He's a total hypercrite. "Filthy Lucre" reunion!
@Michael Davidson Who’re you even referring to when saying ‘sell out American musician’? Americans have fuck all to do with this.
How is that not honest? The clue is in the title? They're honest about touring to make money.
Love him or hate him, John lydon is are rarity , a man who has stuck to his principles and Morales throughout his life , you have to respect him for that.
Agreed. Thanks for watching and commenting .
@@ScottishTeeVee
Your welcome mate.
@@aboutthemetal8783 did he though? He constantly says hes honest but he lies a lot. Constantly talks about money and then says he never did it for the money lol.. He's entertaining enough though.
He would hate me saying this but he's actually really similar to his (partly) creative mother Viv Westwood. They both talk a lot of nonsense mixed in with some sense...and both are authentic in a slightly arrogant way
John is afreemason ...so was mclaren .....viv westwood ......sid vicious ...all strange characters ......
John is a great human being
Thanks for watching and commenting
He has been true to himself his whole life, never arse licked or tried to appease anyone, tells it as it is...I like that
Except he did reform the Pistols a few times. But he’s a legend.
You've got to have been around at the time and have an emotional attachment to the man to see him as anything other than a fat, self-promoting hypocrit
@@spinach-colour-joey6776 there’s some truth in that but, as you say, I was 14 at the time so he’s always there for me

you have very low standards then
@@neilbower9052 I have very high standards thank-you.
We don't have rock stars like John Lydon anymore. Nowadays you wouldn't even be allowed to go on TV to say these things. But every word is the truth.
That's because everything is owned by huge corporate conglomerates that despise creativity, risk taking, and controversy.
@@mattpurvis9873 why tho
you dont need to hate and discourage creativity and controversy to make money
thank god we don't, he's famous for saying 'Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?' at the end of the last pistols concert, he carried on doing it all through his career, he never stopped, lydon does what's best for lydon
He may say he doesn't like his original persona, but in all honesty, he revels in it
Probably because it never was a "persona" in the first place... It's just him.
Totally respect this man for looking after his wife he's a genuine man i saw him in my home town 2 plus years ago he was great 😁
Hell of a man. He should have been listened to a long time ago. Say no more......
He's like me now a old man and the more I see of him the more I like. Like someone said he's a national treasure.
'national treasure'? LMFAO
I've always liked John. Says what he means and means what he says.
A walking contradiction
Lydon does what's best for Lydon, his latest uk tour ticket sales aren't doing so well so he makes a bigoted comment about immigrants that gets blasted all over the media... ticket sales are up. He only cares about one person and that's himself, he doesn't give a crap about people like you as long as you keep falling for his lies and giving him your money
“Nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first understood.” ― Leonardo da Vinci.
Yes, he has always been honest & very interesting & witty 😁
John I hope you read these comments, God bless you and thanks for the honesty throughout the years 👍
I love John so much, he is so bloody honest and that is so rare especially now in 2021, God Bless him ❤️
He must be gutted that the majority of the millennial generations have turned out to be more conformist than any youth group in the last 100 years. Masked up, controlled by rich yanks that run social media and devoid of any national spirit.

Johnnys interviews are always fascinating and funny .
Can’t get enough of his honesty tbh 🤣
@ciao214Z erm no
‘ I might be right ……..I might be wrong ‘. Naked and interesting period of soul searching post punk years. There’s an honesty about John that you can’t deny.
Love you John ❤
he's lovely, I love JL. he's still the same - clear no BS - and just himself. john's dedication to his beautiful wife is inspiring.
I’ve huge respect for Lydon - one of the best. I’ve never held it against him for getting The Pistol’s back together for tours. We all have to make a living. What else is he going to do? And when he did the butter adverts - that was to fund the recording of an album by Pil. He’s not exactly rich like Mick Jagger.
He is an honest man, but he has always wanted to control the narrative of the Sex Pistols. The recent lawsuit between Steve Jones, Paul Cook and himself was a low point for sure. Their forthcoming show is based on Jones book, who’s point of view is just as valid as Lydon’s.
Lydon personifies the word “difficult”, but any man who stands by his wife when she has alzheimers is alright by me.
I’ve not seen this interview before, probably because Jonathan Ross gets on my nerves lol.
Thank you for this.
yes
Then you're an idiot.
If you think that taking a stance on any political problem involves staring into a camera like a vision-impaired imbecile is anything other than a money-making tactic, then you're a half-headed clown.
PS that "lady's part", Lydon, agreeing with you can be safely ignored.
@@macdeluxe733
Could you please explain that again in English? Lol
Sure he's standing by his wife Nora, but he would stand stronger by her side if he didn't still drink too much booze, smoke cigarettes and eat mostly junk food (he's admitted all of that in recent videos). And Lydon is not an honest man, he's an open man. Mostly he has peddled BS his entire life.
@@dmerls8571
There is truth there - unfortunately. There is an article in the NME today where Steve Jones and Paul Cook have reacted to his appearance on Good morning Britain. I believe them - but I think it’s important to realize the pressure Lydon is under right now - his wife Nora is literally dying in front of his eyes. That will fuck anyone up - it’s important to have empathy for people who are struggling, and Lydon is struggling. Anyone who has had a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s will know this. That’s why I give Lydon the benefit of the doubt. Just because I think he is honest doesn’t mean I think he is always in the right. Cut the guy some slack - he deserves that at least.
Pistols and PIL a huge part of my youth, Johnny the best role model.
Thanks for watching and commenting
John Lydon, rarely boring, often entertaining, always his own man

yes very!
Love Johnny rotten he's a brilliant man
He outed Jimmy Savile at the time and knew what he was at. The establishment basically censored him for it. A disgrace.
He did no such thing and PiL were performing "Death disco" on Top of the pops in 1979, the year after the BBC supposedly banned him! The whole BBC interview is out there if anybody doubts what I say.
No he didn’t,sorry but you’re just jumping on the bandwagon without actually listening to the interview. He just said Savile was up to seediness, that could have meant all sorts of things, could have meant he was into orgys or a homosexual, sex and drug parties or yes into young boys etc . Seediness doesn’t actually mean being a peodophile it can mean many many things. He never actually said he was a nonce who was interfering with kids and he wasn’t banned by the BBC after that interview as PIL appeared on TOTPS .
The interview is readily available on UA-cam to watch
God I love John Lydon. Utter genius. One in a million.
31 years ago and so honest 😁
I got to see PiL open for INXS back in the late 80's in Indianapolis. Was an awesome show.
March 14th 1988 at the Market Square Arena, I have it on video, I don't have the Inxs show, but it was probably filmed, though the filmer, who I still know, was more interested in PIL than INXS.
@@ScottishTeeVee I was there for INXS but really enjoyed PIL's show just as much. Music was so much better back then. lol

Sell out Rotten
@@matimus100 he never sold in . Tiresome ten a penny yawn inducing comment again against John
@@sirjellybeans1st19 He sold in when he ‘decided to form’ Sex Pistols - A ‘Punk’, ‘Anarchist’ band. With that being said, using the words ‘Punk’ and ‘Anarchist’, The Pistols obviously became political figures amongst music in the 70’s, especially in England.
Quoted from Google, “The Punk ethos is primarily made up of beliefs such as non-conformity, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, a do-it-yourself ethic, anti-consumerist, anti-corporate greed, direct action and not ‘selling out’.”
He sold out when he voted conservative in the election. He sold out when he never depicted any of his ‘fuck the government’ alleged attitude when it really mattered. He’s the same as Sid. A liar and a sell out.

He did get the Pistols back some years later. You cannot escape your roots and memories. The chance to go back and relive your youth is something most would jump at.
Six years later the Pistols reformed.😅
But I can't even criticise John for contradicting himself or going back on his word because John does whatever John wants to do. And that's the true spirit of punk....no rules and no "you can't do that" .
I totally understand why some people do not care for him but I personally adore the guy and always will.
Right. How many times have the Who gone on the "farewell" tour?

I think you're getting mixed up with the word c*nt. Easy mistake to make, both sound similar and both have the same two letters in the middle.
Now that you mention it have you ever seen those old John Lydon interviews when he calls out Saville and says that every body knows what he gets up to but can't do anything because he is protected by people higher up?

Lydon made some incredible music (Public Image and Metal Box are classics) and talked so much sense for years, as he does in this interview. Just shows how attitudes can change as people age and get more money, I suppose. His political stance now is almost the total opposite, which turns my stomach. Bloody shame.
