Did this mod myself, and it went without a hitch! I had two Philips drive die -- the first had the laser constantly engaged with a tray that refused to eject, and the second would refuse to read any disks -- so I decided to replace it with a supremely better drive. Thanks for the video! :)
Hey man, I was hoping you could help me out. I have managed to flash my 8163b drive with the correct 8050L firmware, my computer recognizes it as 8050L, the Unleash X dashboard settings see it as 8050L, but when i insert a disc, copied or original, it will say that the tray is empty. The weird thing is when i boot up the xbox with a disc in it, it has no problem reading and playing the disc. Would you happen to know what is wrong?
What a shame that there is no translation, I've been looking for a video like this for a long time 😢, I don't really understand your language, it means that even if I do all the designing in the DVD player, the Xbox doesn't recognize it if I don't install the firmware ,???is there no other way where you don't use the flop disk???,you don't have a video of how you did the connections, because here you already have it mixed up 😢,the links you left don't open anymore, kindly I can download it again, thanks
I have a problem with mine. Did everything, now it doesn't work completly. Game in Tray, Console boots straight into the game no problem, but with an empty drive, it won't read anything after boot up when i insert a disc.
+Stephen Eubanks Some of the modified drives allow to play different types of media that you wouldn't otherwise be able to with a stock Xbox optical drive. Read speeds, might be better as well. The big reason is reliability, these modified drives are suppose to be a lot more reliable than the stock Xbox optical drives and are suppose to last a lot longer.
I have been into mods and hacking for over 18 years and out of all the game systems I moded I like the original xbox the best I just installed a 250 gb hhd and I am going to install a 2 tb next I got 50000 + games so that will be fun is there a way that I can get on youtube using xbmx
There are even IDE-Sata boards that work with the xbox (and use a higher speed IDE cable). certain sata harddisks can now be used :D so awesome. but still, reading or dumping unreleased prototype games using firmware modded drives are helpfull. so im gonna try getting one of these drives. gonna dump the raw bytes ;)
Hi Floydzabarber sorry for the late response about the alladin chip,finally i buy a mini pro programmer tried to repair the alladin modchip but the chip is dead and the console is not bricked it was a power supply issue on my v1.0 xbox i already solved the psu issue and the console is back to life i flashed the ind-bios beta feb11-05 .67 on the tsop and works !00% and the ind beta .06 version no video on screen on tsop never used that have issues but ind beta .67 is ok boot fine no shutown issues ii wonder if this beta ind support 128 mb of ram? and im very interested in the 1.4ghz cpu upgrade experimentation for the xbox anyway you can contact me here plus.google.com/u/0/b/108091953278562156575/108091953278562156575/posts

OK, there were some leftovers of the track. Used those to mount the resistor and immediately used glue gun to make it firm.
