    It wouldn't look like a different corvette then. They have to change everything and not just a couple of pieces. Especially for a stingray!

    The new taillights are an improvement. They are more exotic and aggressive. It is a nice change. It really grows on you. If someone can't pick you out as a Vette and confuses you for a Ferrari or Aston, what is the problem? They confused you for a car that is 5 times the cost. That's good.
    Plus, those aren't car enthusiasts and not the people I care about impressing too much anyways.

    One more thing to consider: the 450/450 numbers are most likely under-rated... wait until SAE ratings come out. But more importantly, GM has the most stringent powertrain development & testing standards in the industry. Unlike some other automakers, GM's engines don't get the green light for production unless they pass ALL tests -- in the real world, in simulators, and in other testing environments. It's all about durability AND power... not just power alone. Most others focus on power alone.

    Nicer, more expensive high grade parts, better interior and engine is more powerful.

    As an owner of a C3 vette and an STI, I can appreciate both cars exhaust notes. While you are entitled to your opinion, I would love to hear this car with an aftermarket exhaust. Stock exhausts are typically always weak. Let's wait until we hear that before passing judgement.

  • @j00ber

    lol right you are good sir. I failed to put in the torque figures because no one else was talking about them. I only wanted to point out that the vettes weren't slow cars, and were fun to drive. With the extra torque and Hp the new vette should move like a bat out of hell. I also just wanted to note that this is the base Vette we're lookin at with the 450 numbers, the zr1 will be insane.

  • @MixMasterApu
    @MixMasterApu 11 років тому

    Final number for the 2013 GT500 is 662 HP while I agree it's heavier, I'd love to see them go head to head on the drag strip and circuit track. Each would have their advantages and disadvantages at both. End of the day, get the car that calls to you, that puts a smile on your face everytime you hear it start.

  • @luftology
    @luftology 11 років тому

    I'm not sure why you keep repeating your question:
    "why would that prevent you from cross-shopping them?"
    Who ever said that the two aren't/won't be cross-shopped?
    As far as safety picks go:
    The Prius C hasn't been rated by the NHTSA. Meanwhile, the Sonic has received five-star ratings in the following categories:
    - Overall
    - Frontal Crash
    - Side Crash
    It received 4 stars for Rollover.
    We'll see how the Prius C compares when the NHTSA releases its ratings.

  • @luftology
    @luftology 11 років тому

    Alrighty, let's get technical. The Sonic has more room than the Prius C in EVERY category:
    Sonic vs. Prius C:
    Front Head Room 38.7 38.6
    Rear Head Room 38.1 37
    Front Hip Room 51.4 51
    Rear Hip Room 51.6 50.8
    Front Leg Room 41.8 41.7
    Front Shoulder Room 53.4 52.3
    Rear Shoulder Room 53 51.7
    I'm not debating that the two are cross-shoppable... but the Sonic carries a base price that's roughly $5,000 less than that of the Prius C. That's already a major deterrent (that doesn't pay for itself).

  • @rdsimmonds

    What cracks me up, is that everyone assumes that the 'estimated' 450 bhp is the final horsepower number. They haven't finished development and tuning on the engine as far as anyone knows. And, given that the LS3 has been proven to make more than the advertised 436 (I've seen sealed LS3 crate engines put out as much as 480-490), it's safe to assume this will have more than 450 hp. Eeven when the LS9 was revealed, they'd only admit to 620 bhp. Yes, it's only 18 hp more, but more nonetheless.

  • @80GP400
    @80GP400 11 років тому

    Yes You are somewhat correct, but you are forgetting Torque and that was a kinda long time ago,
    The early Base C4 had around 230-250 hp with the L98 but Torque was 330 to 350tq The turbo version was a detuned 345 hp but had 500tq. then in 92 the LT1 came out wth 300hp and the ZR1 Had 400 plus hp.
    There was a 88 C4 twin turbo also that was not production and had 800+ hp and ran over 250MPH called the sledghammer.

  • @luftology
    @luftology 11 років тому

    The 2010 Camaro SS makes 426/420 horsepower/torque from the LS3. The Stingray makes 450/450... so the power is not the same. Add to that the fact that the all-new LT1 in the Stingray will result in better fuel economy, and is also lighter -- and the upgrade seems good and proper...

  • @j00ber
    @j00ber 11 років тому

    you're right, times are changing. 90's base was 240 hp, 2014 it's 450. Also, buy a tuning package for a couple grand and slap an intake/ehaust on it and open up the potential. All manufacturers tune down their base models in an attempt to sell the higher priced "performance" models.

    Jaguar is owned (and now partially built) in India, Bentley is owned by VW, Rolls Royce is owned by BMW, Aston Martin is partially owned by Kuwaitis and their engines are still made by Ford. Noble and Ariel aren't real cars. Lotus is owned by the Malaysians. They may have the British names, but those brands have essentially been sold off to the highest bidder.

    As far as your "embarrassing" comment goes, I don't follow. As someone who drives cars for a living and as someone who owned a 2011 Chevy Cruze, I can tell you first hand that the Cruze and Sonic achieve higher real-world fuel economy than the official numbers. Those are facts from MY first hand experience.

    Hip room:

    .
    Leg room:
    Prius c: 41.7/35.0
    Sonic: 41.8/34.6

    You make a good point with the powerful GT500's starting price (without any upgrade options, but with all 662 hp), except for one thing - That is not an entry-level anything. That's the hi-po version of the $23k-base Mustang. IMHO if Ford had a sports car, emphasizing handling as much as the Corvette does, it'd be priced near a GT500 too (unless it's a GT supercar)

    No, because the Prius c doesn't plug-in. It can only be filled with gasoline, just like a Camry and the Chevy Cruze and Sonic.

  • @luftology
    @luftology 11 років тому

    hitssquad the difference is that the Prius has HSD/battery-assisted drive... the Cruze nor the Sonic have that. One is a hybrid, the others aren't. More than that, both Chevys have significantly superior ride/handling feel and driving experience, while offering more interior room, superior infotainment and safety technology. Moreover, neither Chevy looks like a Prius (you know what that means :)

Yeah GM used square Camaro style lights and they specifically said that they took the Camaro lights as massive inspiration when they designed the car, but they did that because Camaro lights are awesome and look great on the car. How about we all stop working out what they copied and admire the car as a whole.

GM did great with this and I'm excited to see one of these on the streets :)

    Have you even driven the Shelby GT500? If you do, you'd quickly notice that the power is not even usable! The point is that a sports car isn't all about power figures or on-paper specifications. It's about the entire package; the C7 is THE total package for a performance car.
    As for your earlier comments, 450 hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque is surprisingly good out of a N/A motor. The BMW V10 you refer to has more hp, but less torque, making for an imbalanced power output & driving experience.
