It wouldn't look like a different corvette then. They have to change everything and not just a couple of pieces. Especially for a stingray!
Amazing. Can't wait to hear the Z06 and ZR1 when they release.
Apprehensive at first about the back. Then it grew on me.It's emotional.I love it!!
i purchased my c6 brand new in jan 2009, and i am jealous.... it just keeps getting better and better! thank God i'm only 39, i'm gonna hold out for the c8 when they decide to throw the engine in the back :)
The new taillights are an improvement. They are more exotic and aggressive. It is a nice change. It really grows on you. If someone can't pick you out as a Vette and confuses you for a Ferrari or Aston, what is the problem? They confused you for a car that is 5 times the cost. That's good.
Plus, those aren't car enthusiasts and not the people I care about impressing too much anyways.
Everyone are moving away from where we started from. PEOPLE we are talking about the new 2014 VET and not the older models. I LOVE THE ZR1.
Im in obsessed with this corvette already!!
I think it looks fantastic. Although I never was a big fan of the spherical tail lights of the previous generations. An all around improvement.
Glad it's not that loud. Want to cruise a top down Vette with music like "To Love Again" by Nasty Mac booming out loud. Sweet life.
Kuddo's Z28.......Mustang owner but proud of our automobile heritage and glad performance cars are back!!! What else is there for a man to cherish more than a woman?? nuff said.
One more thing to consider: the 450/450 numbers are most likely under-rated... wait until SAE ratings come out. But more importantly, GM has the most stringent powertrain development & testing standards in the industry. Unlike some other automakers, GM's engines don't get the green light for production unless they pass ALL tests -- in the real world, in simulators, and in other testing environments. It's all about durability AND power... not just power alone. Most others focus on power alone.
My SS exhaust sounds like this it is beautiful i am glad GM did not mess with that.
Looks like an exotic, and has more class than all the Corvettes before it.
Nicer, more expensive high grade parts, better interior and engine is more powerful.
Clearly some people haven't seen the original Stingray tail lights... and honestly who cares..? Do you see that car! It looks freaking awesome! Shut up and be glad! Good Job GM!
As an owner of a C3 vette and an STI, I can appreciate both cars exhaust notes. While you are entitled to your opinion, I would love to hear this car with an aftermarket exhaust. Stock exhausts are typically always weak. Let's wait until we hear that before passing judgement.
lol right you are good sir. I failed to put in the torque figures because no one else was talking about them. I only wanted to point out that the vettes weren't slow cars, and were fun to drive. With the extra torque and Hp the new vette should move like a bat out of hell. I also just wanted to note that this is the base Vette we're lookin at with the 450 numbers, the zr1 will be insane.
Final number for the 2013 GT500 is 662 HP while I agree it's heavier, I'd love to see them go head to head on the drag strip and circuit track. Each would have their advantages and disadvantages at both. End of the day, get the car that calls to you, that puts a smile on your face everytime you hear it start.
I'm not sure why you keep repeating your question:
"why would that prevent you from cross-shopping them?"
Who ever said that the two aren't/won't be cross-shopped?
As far as safety picks go:
The Prius C hasn't been rated by the NHTSA. Meanwhile, the Sonic has received five-star ratings in the following categories:
- Overall
- Frontal Crash
- Side Crash
It received 4 stars for Rollover.
We'll see how the Prius C compares when the NHTSA releases its ratings.
Alrighty, let's get technical. The Sonic has more room than the Prius C in EVERY category:
Sonic vs. Prius C:
Front Head Room 38.7 38.6
Rear Head Room 38.1 37
Front Hip Room 51.4 51
Rear Hip Room 51.6 50.8
Front Leg Room 41.8 41.7
Front Shoulder Room 53.4 52.3
Rear Shoulder Room 53 51.7
I'm not debating that the two are cross-shoppable... but the Sonic carries a base price that's roughly $5,000 less than that of the Prius C. That's already a major deterrent (that doesn't pay for itself).
What cracks me up, is that everyone assumes that the 'estimated' 450 bhp is the final horsepower number. They haven't finished development and tuning on the engine as far as anyone knows. And, given that the LS3 has been proven to make more than the advertised 436 (I've seen sealed LS3 crate engines put out as much as 480-490), it's safe to assume this will have more than 450 hp. Eeven when the LS9 was revealed, they'd only admit to 620 bhp. Yes, it's only 18 hp more, but more nonetheless.
Love the tail lights and rear end
Actually they're out of the "Lexus LFA" bin. Good to know you are very knowledgeable about your cars.
Haters will always be haters!!! You are absolutely correct, this car is just insane!!! I fucking love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes You are somewhat correct, but you are forgetting Torque and that was a kinda long time ago,
The early Base C4 had around 230-250 hp with the L98 but Torque was 330 to 350tq The turbo version was a detuned 345 hp but had 500tq. then in 92 the LT1 came out wth 300hp and the ZR1 Had 400 plus hp.
There was a 88 C4 twin turbo also that was not production and had 800+ hp and ran over 250MPH called the sledghammer.
sound so original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
OMFG. sounds hella badass. Way better then the C6 or Z06
That sounds strikingly similar to the exhaust on my C5 Z06.
Headroom:
Prius c: 38.6/37.0
Sonic: 38.7/37.8
.
Shoulder room:
Prius c: 52.3/51.7
Sonic: 53.4/53.0
Nobody was complaining when one of the best looking Camaro ever made had round corvette lights.
the best part about it is, that it's projected to be only around 53,000 which i find to be a relatively low jump in price seeing as all the things they've done to it.
The 2010 Camaro SS makes 426/420 horsepower/torque from the LS3. The Stingray makes 450/450... so the power is not the same. Add to that the fact that the all-new LT1 in the Stingray will result in better fuel economy, and is also lighter -- and the upgrade seems good and proper...
you're right, times are changing. 90's base was 240 hp, 2014 it's 450. Also, buy a tuning package for a couple grand and slap an intake/ehaust on it and open up the potential. All manufacturers tune down their base models in an attempt to sell the higher priced "performance" models.
I really like this vette in red and black. The back tail lights are staring to grow on me a little.
this camaro is awesome!
Sounds pretty legal to me, that would be one of my first areas of concern right behind new power plant.
@Gunnanator The question is why not? If you watch the car and driver interview about the car they will explain why they chose leaf springs over coil springs.. Corvette has dominated competition with them for a while now
THIS IS THE SOUND OF MY V8 PEOPLE!
the ignition on this car is awesome.....
Yes, they are "owned" by non-Brit companies. Still, the cars are actually built and assembled in the UK. "Made" in England, as I've said. "Not funded".
Sounds sick, can't wait for it to hit showrooms.
I will probably pick one up in a few years, still having fun with my C6 and C2 (the C6 will go, but not the 63)
Again with the car knowledge! Like you even know who Zora Arkus Duntov is. Man I hate both Top Gears, but I really wish our country could get it together.
its 450 hp, and its just the base model. Its the most HP a base corvette has ever had. Its almost a guarantee we will have zo6/zr1/new name for high performance versions on the way in the next couple years that will like push 6-700 hp.
You are without a doubt, the easiest person I've ever trolled on youtube. Why so mad bro?
ahhhh that sound like a real corvette
One more point, @rforracing: the Chevy Cruze and Sonic (new Aveo) have the highest fuel economy numbers ("official" and real-world) of any compact and subcompact vehicles, respectively. Just some food for thought.
How can someone dislike this vid... If someone offered me that C7 for free I'd take a first class plane ticket to Detroit lol :)
Billy Boat, and SLP isn't trash, it's stainless steel straight piping.
Jaguar is owned (and now partially built) in India, Bentley is owned by VW, Rolls Royce is owned by BMW, Aston Martin is partially owned by Kuwaitis and their engines are still made by Ford. Noble and Ariel aren't real cars. Lotus is owned by the Malaysians. They may have the British names, but those brands have essentially been sold off to the highest bidder.
cant wait for this car
New corvette is sweet!
Take a chill pill buddy. No one is stealing your family or your family's cow; we're talking cars here. I sincerely recommend you don't take comments personally. It's not healthy.
As far as your "embarrassing" comment goes, I don't follow. As someone who drives cars for a living and as someone who owned a 2011 Chevy Cruze, I can tell you first hand that the Cruze and Sonic achieve higher real-world fuel economy than the official numbers. Those are facts from MY first hand experience.
Johnathan: that is the production Stingray.
Not sure if we're listening to the same exhaust note... it sounds like a good-ol' LS V8 to me.
That good old Corvette rumble. Zoom Zoom!
Why the fuck are people comparing the Sonic and Prius? They are both un-manly cars meant for people who think they give a shit about the environment. This is a fucking Corvette video for crying out loud. A true mans car.
music to my ears
Great exhaust sound...but will it be good for every day driving? I think I will hold on for my C6 Z06 just a little longer. Love the looks of the C7 though!
Hip room:
Prius c: 51.0/50.8
Sonic: 51.4/51.6
.
Leg room:
Prius c: 41.7/35.0
Sonic: 41.8/34.6
.
As we can see, the Prius c is superior to the Chevy Sonic in terms of some interior dimensions, and very close in terms of others. Why would that prevent you from cross-shopping these cars?
Chevrolet is claiming the new vette goes at least to 60 in under 4 seconds with only a 14 horsepower increase on just the base model. If that's actually true when you think about it that's pretty impressive.
I respect your opinion... even if it's wrong
You're joking right? I'm 25 and would gladly drive this car. Get with the times old man, muscle cars are making a come back and imports don't appeal as much to kids anymore.
The ferarris have new competition can't wait for the ZR1
Did people ever stop to think that maybe it's the Camaro whose taillights look like the Vette? Just like the 70s...
People say the taillights are like the camaro's taillights. I disagree because the new vette has 100% led lights and they are not the same shape. Take a closer look in motor trend mag. They are different!
0:07 click and reclick as long as you want
...the original stingray tail lights were rounded..not squared. Not sure why folks are making the claim they were "originally" square.
Horsepower is for speed, torque is for acceleration.
You make a good point with the powerful GT500's starting price (without any upgrade options, but with all 662 hp), except for one thing - That is not an entry-level anything. That's the hi-po version of the $23k-base Mustang. IMHO if Ford had a sports car, emphasizing handling as much as the Corvette does, it'd be priced near a GT500 too (unless it's a GT supercar)
@MCBackDraft1 The Camaro lights are entirely different. What you're referring to is called design language...
I kinda like them though....they look kind of like the Camaro's, but it's still a refreshment for the old style (I guess you can kind of argue against what I said with "If it ain't broke, don't fix it")....but that's just my opinion
I think you are right man I have a 2006 c6 and the circle taillights are the symbol of the corvette since they came out the body may change the emblem can change but everyone knows when they are behind a corvette now people wont know what this thing is, is it a Ferrari a Aston martin the body is beautiful just change the taillights
u can only make so many different looking cars until you shape a new meaning of personal transportation. all porsches look the same but that doesnt mean they arent awesome and good machines. corvettes still gonna get attention whether it has similar lines to other cars or not
Although it does look like a California special Ferrari ,a camaro, a Nissan gtr, and a corvette all in one..but those are some bad ass cars to put all in one lol..
Sounds good. Wish it were mine
Hooray!! A new car for Top Gear to hate on!!
I don't know what to think yet. A big vette fan, but it is a little gaudy.
"its like comparing a camry to a volt."
No, because the Prius c doesn't plug-in. It can only be filled with gasoline, just like a Camry and the Chevy Cruze and Sonic.
hitssquad the difference is that the Prius has HSD/battery-assisted drive... the Cruze nor the Sonic have that. One is a hybrid, the others aren't. More than that, both Chevys have significantly superior ride/handling feel and driving experience, while offering more interior room, superior infotainment and safety technology. Moreover, neither Chevy looks like a Prius (you know what that means :)
you do realise, that they've announced that with the performance of a the new given LT1 type engine that this thing is performing with grand sport and even entry level Z06's?
i cant stop hitting the reply =')
Everyone is mad because it has Camaro lights. Did you ever stop to think that maybe big round Corvette tail lights would look absolutely fucking ridiculous on this car? Yeah GM used square Camaro style lights and they specifically said that they took the Camaro lights as massive inspiration when they designed the car, but they did that because Camaro lights are awesome and look great on the car. How about we all stop working out what they copied and admire the car as a whole.
Anyways what an amazing car, I've always dreamed of owning a Corvette, although I prefer foreign cars but Corvettes have always been my exception. I don't see the fuss though.Everything has to change, it's just the way the world works. Things get upgraded for the better. GM did great with this and I'm excited to see one of these on the streets :)
As for comparing to a Camaro, it's pretty much nothing alike but that's just me I guess. The way I see it if you don't like it stick to an older Vette.
beautiful car.
you realize that the 5.7l, ya know, the 350 c.i sbc... that was in the 80s/90s model chevy's was only pushin around 240 hp, twin turbo variant in the 91 'vette was only puttin out about 345... so 450 hp bone stock, from the factory, ain't too shabby.
With the introduction of the C4 and the C6 there was a lot of controversy, but it didn't take too long and they nay-sayers got over it.
This car will win no drags.
honestly i dont think this car looks like the gtr at all in my opnion it looks like a 458 mixed with the c6 vette and the 5th gen camaro. Also that exhaust sounds awesome
It sounds like a classic LS-series V8... not sure what you're talking about here mate.
I believe that the horse power figures are conservative. PROBABLY 475HPand 450 lb ft torque just incredible and it will get at least 30 cruising on the highway its weight is less than a Chevy cruze and 200 mph is probably not out of the ? tail lites look great and only have a Chevy family resemblance and definitely not camaro tail lite this car is awesome!!
@MCBackDraft1 It's a design language; each design is inspired by the other... one is not a "rip off" of the next.
The Stingray is put together with Elmers glue and that sound from the pipes are actually Justin Beiber throwing up.
Honestly, this car is a mullet... Ferrari in the front.. camaro in the back, with a gtr thrown on the side... im not saying that it looks exactly like these 3 cars but it is definitely way to similar...
I have to disagree with you on the sound. My C6 with the Corsa sounds great, and just about the same as the C7,
They are? They run entirely on gasoline, just like the Chevy Cruze and Sonic. Is it illegal to cross-shop cars that run on gas with cars that run on gas?
As much as I love the vette, why leaf springs?
Does it sound like it's in 4-cylinder mode?
SLS Coupe Black Series is over 200k. The new Vette will be under 60.
Do you have one?
Have you even driven the Shelby GT500? If you do, you'd quickly notice that the power is not even usable! The point is that a sports car isn't all about power figures or on-paper specifications. It's about the entire package; the C7 is THE total package for a performance car.
As for your earlier comments, 450 hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque is surprisingly good out of a N/A motor. The BMW V10 you refer to has more hp, but less torque, making for an imbalanced power output & driving experience.
classic with a NEW body work!!
