  • A loving tribute to the Honeymooners' unslick, little-rehearsed brilliance. We true fans (aka honorary Raccoons) enjoy the flubbed lines, cheap sets and other surprises of the "Classic 39" as much as we do "BANG! ZOOM!" and "Hardy-har-har!"

    0:09 - not included were brilliantly ad-libbed lines by Gleason and Carney. Ralph picks up the piece that flew off, examines it, and says, "You think we should throw something in about spear fishing?" Norton responds, "Get rid of the skate key; we don't need that" (or something along those lines).

    • @JoshMaxPower
      @JoshMaxPower  3 роки тому

      Good catch, scattered. But after consideration, I decided to cut it right after the piece flies off and not include the reactions because the reactions weren't "goofs" - they were great ad-libs! Make sense?

      Jackie wanted everything natural. And that's what I love about it - because EXACTLY as you say - when people get flustered or irritated or excited... they lose their speech pattern, run out of breath, fumble their words... etc.
      Now that cover by Art at the end when Jackie takes out the wall was pure improv. Absolutely love Carney and what he brought to the show.

      I think by that time that actor - who had to have been over 70 - was so completely discombobulated that whatever came out of his mouth was whatever came out of his mouth. You're screwing up, badly, and it's not a simple blown line, it's about 5 seconds of "Uh...uh...uh...uh..." which is an eternity on television, and there is another voice in your head saying "Oh, please, God, what's the line?" By the time Gleason feeds him the line, he probably doesn't even have "Brother Ralph" anywhere near his cerebrum!

    I dunno why many say that Jackie knocking the wall over in the Chef of the Future bit was a goof. Looked totally planned that way as the final shot, and given that wall had almost nothing holding it up in the first place, no sandbags/struts on the bottom, nothin'. Just a vertical strut in back that was barely holding it up. Maybe it looks like a bloober because he did it so well that it *looked* like an accident... which of course was how it was supposed to look.

Later in the show as Norton is leaving the apartment Ralph again says "Hey, wait a minute. Don't you want to take that bag out of the ice box?" Later in the scene, Carney forgets his line and says "Now remember the phrase: Hellooo there, fatso,, " and Gleason replies "I know. I know. Getta load of fatso. Yes, yes, yes.."

      @@bobbyfrancis8957 i have seen them trying to suppress laughter several times. Its hard not to......these guys are so funny. And improv leaves it somewhat open to embellishments and the unnexpected happening around the basic story line and the cast picks it up and rolls with it with freshly humorous results. It happened a lot in Reggie Van Gleason skits too. Especially when those 3 goofy deadpan guys were on stage. They never cracked a smile, but Reggie and his mom and dad were having a hard time keeping a straight face. Over the top comedy. I never missed a show.
