What I love about this episode is that, even after Ralph puts her through all this nonsense, she's still behind him when he finds out he's not going to be the Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler, with empathy and encouraging words.
I love the the hesitation and the uh ...uh..... absolutely classic. The fact he makes it so real how he keeps messing it up. Thats what makes it so great. Genius.
Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Sometimes you can't tell how much Gleason was adlibbing or if that was the way he was supposed to say it. Either way, it's hilarious.
Ralph is at his funniest when he's really stressed and desperate and enraged and embarrassed and insulted and in physical agony and mocking; when he tries to tell a joke, har har hardy har har.
I know everyone has their favorite part of this but please pleas please go back and listen to the SECOND laugh after he says the punch line He’s not on camera you just hear the laugh I can’t stop laughing….close to 55 years now
When Jackie stumbles at 1:24 that did not appear intentional to me. Audrey didn't appear to be giving him any cues showing otherwise so I could be wrong. So don't send me out on a night or a dog like this 🤣
Good punch line, but terrible set up. A more confident setup that shows that he knows what he's doing and where he's going would make the punch line land with a lot more punch. Ralph destroyed his joke by hemming and hawing and backtracking so many times it sounded as if he was merely rambling incoherently. As far as this scene in the Honeymooners is concerned, Jackie makes it funny by so preposterously f***ing up the joke and setting up Audrey for some witty comebacks.
Jackie was notorious for not wanting to rehearse too much but he should have spent at least a short amount of time on the joke, he really stumbles through it. But who knows if maybe that's how he wanted it to look.
It actually makes it so realistic like it's your best friend screwing up the joke. I think Jackie Gleason did it right. His performance of imperfection made Ralph Cramden endearing and indelible.
This show is still funnier than any of the television programs on today. Ralph, Ed, Alice and Trixie are timeless.
Because the so called comedians today just spew the F word and bash Trump, all while nobody watched them
Little stevie Colbert pronounce coal-bert.
im sure your nostalgia blanket is comfy but dont let it delude you
Alice is a real “sweetheart” ….a lovely lady
Exactly!@@trent3872
There are some people here that don't seem to understand that he intentionally messed up the joke this man was the best there ever was
it was genius the way he did that.
Comedy genius he was, Carney too.
Some people 🙄🙄🙄
They gave Audrey Meadows great one line comebacks. Baby, you were the greatest. RIP
“Now get ready, here it comes.”

“You’ll always be Raccoon of the Year around this house.”
Alice looking so incredibly bored during his speech is hilarious
A master at demonstrating how to f-up a joke.
When Alice says "A dog out on a night like this...yeah, THAT'S funny" is a great comedic moment!
Audrey Meadows as Alice Kramden. Another iconic TV character. Her one liners on Ralph's tirade are classic.
The way they were the good old days that show was awesome😊

what's another word for "message"? A trip! 😂😂😂

Back when comedy was actually FUNNY !
That was actually pretty funny.
One of my favorite jokes. Thanks Ralph!
The greatest tv show EVER
Don't worry Ralph. We were laughing before the joke
LOL! Ralph's joke is funnier with captions on. Sir Lancelot becomes sir Launch let and sir long slit.
ALICE TELLS RALPH OH YES I GOT A SENSE OF HUMOR ,I MARRIED YOU, DIDN'T I?
Alice was ALWAYS hitting Ralph with some serious shots/comebacks. LOL
He was "The Geat One."
You got a o love Alice...
John Nowakowski I always have. My favorite character on the show!
I would marry her in a New York minute.
Beyond brilliant. The Great One
I thought he was stumbling when he said ,night out on dog. Then I realize that was the joke knight on dog .
This joke seems to beg the eternal question: why must this (k)night be different from all other (k)nights? 😂
BANG...ZOOM🚀🚀🚀
F****** hilarious those were the best shows ever
Too bad there's only one season.
Good for that.
You can see Alice’s mother coming out of Alice on this one.

One time....
In real life..

It's so bad it's good again. ;)
A TRIP, RALPH!
I'd love to hear Norm MacDonald tell this joke.
R.IP.
lol, I was thinking this! Wondering if he could make it somehow legit funny.
Omg that still cracks me up
The honeymooners were part of the golden age of television like i love lucy your show of shows whats my line
"put the hat down, you can steam it in a second"... when was the last time you steamed your hat?

How about Ralph?
Oh!! Really.....Hillarious....I can take the hint....
Oh .. I can't stop!!! Laughing.🇩🇰🗽🇺🇸🦅📬🌃
Which episode is these one? I know is The Loud Speaker.Big Thanks for the answer.
This joke was so bad, it was hilarious because of Gleason!
Good punch line, but terrible set up. A more confident setup that shows that he knows what he's doing and where he's going would make the punch line land with a lot more punch. Gotta hand it to Gleason for portraying Ralph like that and pulling it off. Brilliant.
Sir Loncelat...
Audrey was beautiful.
Sir LOnceLET 😂
I remember this & how bad it was.😄

That was intentional. The stumbling made the whole thing worse.
Yes, that was the point. This not Gleason delivering a joke. This is Gleason as Kramden screwing one up.
The knight/dog yammering wasn't the joke. His ineptness at telling a joke WAS the joke.
Evidence he hardly ever rehearsed his lines. He forgets one altogether and they have to turn the camera off.
This was live
His ineptness in telling the joke was exactly what made the scene comedic. It was intentional.
I'm African American! & Always ❤️ my teddy bear 🌹
🤣🤣🤣
What episode was this ?
Did he not remember his lines?
The Only Funny Thing About That Joke Was That It Sucked!.🥴😵💫😄😆
O1:00
This is where Biden gets his jokes ..😂
Biden's jokes are bad. So are Trump's lies.
-8,000,000 still stings, don't it?
