Video Notes:
1) Of the four Lionel AC-12 Cab Fowards shown in this video, #4294 and the unpainted pilot are from 2015 while #4290 and #4281 are from 2021.
what a minute is that 4294 the preserved one
omg it is 😮😮😮😮
This video really took me by surprise when I saw all 4 of them lashed together
@@railchief74 mission accomplished!
@@Ericstrains you really did execute that mission perfectly
he got me as well but you have to say it looks really cool seeing 4 lashed together.@@railchief74
The southern pacific sure had some unique articulated engines, from the ac-12 cab forwards to the semi streamlined ac-9
The 4290 cab-forward with the daylight scheme…SLAPS
"How much horsepower we need for this?"
"Yes"
SP #4294, one of a soul survivor that is still today inside a static display at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA.
Weird locomotives, awesome whistle
i had the pleasure of visiting the 4294 cab forward a few years back at the California state railroad museum. i highly recommend it
Happy Cab Forward Friday! Awesome video, definitely made my day while working!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing your line up on the cab forwards. Impressive. Love your string of box cars.
You bet
Would’ve been neat to see one of them running through Donner Pass! Id like to go out that way someday to see it for myself.
Would love to have one if not 2 of these for my collection 😊😊😊😊
Love that pilot version, I think that and the H7 are the best looking pilots they made.
Very nice love camera 📷 shot
That's my favorite of many Steam Engines!!! Just an authoritative engine!! Beyond cool you have those varied versions of them..
It's one of my favs too.
Great parade !
I just recently got the river Rossi version for 80 bucks. I freaking love it.
I lived on the SP mainline north of Glendle. Our bcak yard fronted on SP Right of Way. I'd sit on an elevated part of our patio and watch myriad's of SP power daily. 1943-1954.
Nice video! Ik Lionel made another cab forwards in 2021 or 2022!
2021. Two of the four cab fowards in this video are from 2021. The other two are from 2015.
Oh I see !
My great grandpa worked on those exact trains in Sacramento for Southern Pacific. Super cool thanks Eric!
My MGF did too.
Love that unpainted version. You get to really see the contrast of all of the addons. Also, how can you go wrong with the Southern Pacific colors. Great video! 🚂
The 4294 has a awesome Whistle, But the Pilot looks Cool .
Those NYC E units are they MTH , waiting for the Lionel ones 2023 V1 .
And I thought just having 1 in HO with a big train was cool, but 4 now that is taking it to the next level of awesome.
The Gold metallic One Needs To Be Perfect For The Southern Pacific
Just imagine the pulling power the 4 Cab Forwards could have
Probably around 8-10 pounds. In other words, enough to pull anything you want. :)
@@Ericstrains probably so I know you said you new UP 9000 can pull up to 5 pounds
Great shots of some beautiful engines. I really liked the POV and would like to see more of that in your I/E videos!
@ 4:35 that’s what called the money shot !
Yep!
Great video and relaxing for me. You have so many visually appealing options that sometimes words aren't needed. Thanks for trying my suggestion. I will be curious how many likes you get. Add some lighting options next time. Themes will be great like this one!
Got my covid/flu shots Wednesday. Had a few hours to work on the layout today so I threw on my Erics Trains 2020 lockdown shirt. Seemed appropriate. lol
Haha, nice one.
Amazing video!
You must have some really good ventilation in the your train room my uncle has a good nice lay out in his basement but if he was running that many steam locomotive with the smoke units on it would set off the smoke doctors
Yes
My god the camera angles! Fantastic!
Thanks!
Awesome parade!
All very nice!
I love the daylight color scheme
All four of those are very nice locomotives! I have the #4276 Lionmaster version of this from 2007. Ever ran one of those?
Awsum train great video 🚂🚋🚃🚋😎👍
They're all impressive but I really like the unpainted model. Excellent sounds too.
With the locomotive moving backwards and the Tender in its place; How does the Tender reload the locomotive?
I had wondered that for the longest time. They're all oil-fired, with massive tubes running it from the tender to the locomotive.
What he said. Oil fired.
The cab forwards were oil burners, were the fuel was to transfer from the tender to the firebox. It evened worked going upgrades along with the water pump.
Very nice!
Wow I didn't even know those existed
WooHoo! Great video.
Amazing video Eric!!!
I don't know what it is but I am really digging the pilot version of the cab forward.
Me too!
This video has been approved by the hobo union.😊😊
Such a shame only 1 cab forward was preserves.
This is so cool. I can’t tell ya how cool this is. Eric thanks
I hope Lionel comes out with a SP AC-4 Cab Forward since they bought much of MTH’s tooling.
They didn’t by an AC-4 from MTH
Oh ok. But I heard they’ll come out with the Blue Goose from the Santa Fe.@@Ericstrains
Interesting is that cab forward whistles were non quillable and had a valve that opened steam to the whistle when the cord was pulled. So the whistle was always off or blasted full open.
Interesting indeed!
I'm a big Steam Loco Enthusiast and this video certainly leads the way forward to the top of the list 😊, PJR
I actually didn’t know you had gotten a second one from the latest release (4281). Nonetheless that was surely quite the impressive lineup. Fantastic running session
Yeah just got 4281 a couple weeks ago. Hence the video! 😃
I love me some AC’s ❤
Eric will you do a review on the 2 cab forwards from the 2021 volume 2 catalog?
I might at some point
The holy Cab-Forward shrine...
This was just incredible to watch. Talk about having my favorite engine times 4x so impressive!!!😊
How many amps did that draw Eric?
Thanks! A lot lol
Cab forward have highest horse power being a Ac locomotive.
Makes one wonder: Did SP ever link more than 2 cap forwards together on a real run? It would be quite a sight.
ua-cam.com/video/dCWy-JxZ_hs/v-deo.htmlsi=K6xEevMB5JyplUPZ here you can see an AC-9 leading a train with a Cab Forward as doublehead, as well as other ACs serving as helpers and pushers on the SP main lines, so it's quite likely this happened, but not filmed...
Seeing as the whole point of the cab forward was to keep the crew ahead of the smoke in long tunnels…I’d be surprised if they did, since it would put the crew of the 2nd unit right behind the smokestack of the 1st unit. But who knows?
should do a full coal hopper train next
ok sure. That sounds like more of a N&W train.
Oh my, the power draw must have been ridiculous running all four of those.
Did you save any power for your neighbors?😅
Haha
Being that the DRGW bought the SP, I would like to think these were at one time, at least the surviving one, was under DRGW management and there fore could be painted as such.
I always wondering how they pit the oil for put the coa in the cab forward trains.
They used oil not coal
Are you going to expand the layout? Stuart in florida
There’s no room for expansion
Why the third cab forward painted wierd without any numbers and no Southern Pacific heading on tender
@@ankitpal8965 it’s an unpainted version of the model. They call it a “pilot” version
@@Ericstrains oh my! that's weird
How many cab forward 😂😂😂
Did any of these survive?
One, #4294 is on static display out in California
Nice detail.....looks like they cost a small fortune....
4 x AC-12 Cab Forwards equals roughly $7500
@@Ericstrains
Holy Toledo!!!
Eric… you know what a foursome is right??
😭
Not even "pew, pew, pew" noises like the actual locimotive made. What a disappointment.
Alrighty then.
@@Ericstrains I don't mean to offend.
