Tinman you should do a video on how to pressure/vac test a chainsaw! I’ve looked on you tube and there’s isn’t really a good video show how to do It. Explain where you can go in at and where you need to plug and where to look for leaks. I think you would make good thorough how to video. 👍
Funny, I've got the west Texas accent and have always liked the Canadian accent! Chemically clean seems to be key with motoseal. Haven't had it fail me YET. Great "back to basics" video!
Good info. I like your torque wrench. Some mechanics have one built into their hands. I like the info you give, maybe it's the way you present it. We're from the same area, just different sides of the border, I understand what you're saying.
Hey Tinman I decided to post my first video it's my 281xp jump over and check it out!!!. I'm really digging this build looks like my buddy is going to have me build a Holzfforma g288 for him soon so that will be next.
Awesome! Do you ever have to do anything to the case when doing a gasket delete or are they all machined close enough to just seal it? Oh, and what is the sealant you use again? I remember you talked about it in another vid. Cheers.
Hey guys. Was wanting to ask the more experienced here. If it’s alright with tinman that is. I have a MS391 that I am thinking of porting a couple degrees and putting a pop up piston in. They make a hyway pop up for this saw. Stock it makes 120psi. Was hoping to get it up around 140-150. What do you guys think of the pop up pistons? I guess it’s one of the only ways to gain compression on a clamshell. Anyone else put one in a 391? Thanks guys and tinman!
Man of tin. Gallons of brake clean. You know you should be wearing gloves. Those real thin ones. Otherwise the cleaner, gas, and even moto tech can seep into your pores & be spread around. My oldest son is a military trained diesel mechanic. And he wears the gloves. The little ones are way more bothered. Keep that in mind. Just letting ya know. Awesome video. Love 288s.
There is a pin in the piston and a u in the ring. I think it's recommend u put the u up so the flat side is supported by the piston on the compression stroke. It looks to be Permatex 89145. you might ask again and see if he will confirm.
Hey Tinman, loved the video. Have a question. I am upgrading a 455 rancher with a 460 cylinder/piston, is this gonna be a good increase in power or is it worthwhile porting? Has weird boost ports, so was thinking increasing the openings at the bottom to increase flow. Thoughts? Cheers.
That was a good video. Thanks. Never put a cylinder on a chainsaw, but I have one with only 70 PSI. I think I’m ready to try it now. Thanks again.
My old friend was a powersaw repair man , he always used outboard motor assemble grease . 👍🇨🇦
We used car grease all the same

As always, your teaching is approachable and fun!👍
We’re forever learning Bud! That’ll be a great work saw for Caleb. Keep up the good work!!
Clean saw, can’t wait to hear her roar, it be cool to see a pipe making video for this saw
Thanks again tinman for everything
I've gone through 2 sets of rings now trying to get my new cylinder on my piston! I'm about ready to give up!

Great tutorial,thanks for sharing.
Hey love your content and humility tinman. I started rebuilding power saws about 8 months ago I have a 10 10 I'm going to port and rebuild

Good stuff Tinman! 288 is a beauty saw. Would love to see the old 61 come out some more or maybe a bigger 2 series saw:)

Permatex motoseal.
I’ve been interested in finding screws to replace the farmertec ones. Are you using oem or something different?
Hope all is well

G'day what is the sealant you use?
Was the ring gap to the intake.
