Really love the 8. I came from the 6 and was planning on it keeping it for longer, but I couldn't resist the 7 year update cycle and smaller size. It really is nearly perfect for me. I plan on keeping it for that long. I got an insane deal through Virgin Mobile where I only have to pay $10/mo for 2 years. At the end I'll have only paid around $280 for this thing. I couldn't say no to that

Pixel 7 user here, i love this phone and the camera but as someone in India where we use mobile data heavily and 5G is quite new, the heating and battery loss on mobile data is a big issue. Google needs to fix this soon as even my previous a52s 5g which was one of the initial batch of 5g phones was not this bad on 5g.

@rahulr_01 tbh it's not that bad now, it easily lasts me a day with moderate usage under 5g. I upgraded from the poco f4 (sd870) and tbh the 5g experience seems to be much better. My old phone was riddled with issues such as calls dropping, loosing internet connectivity under 5g, unable to hear the caller, etc but nothing such on my pixel 8. Yeah it does sometime get slightly warmer when say I am browsing the map when outside, etc but once the phone adapted to my usage pattern, the battery life is fine.

I switched from the Pixel 6 to the iPhone 15 Pro and I regret it so much. The iPhone gets hot, the software is not as smart and comfortable. Dynamic island is buggy with some apps like MS Authenticator. And the worst, since yesterday its stuck on an not recoverable bootloop not even with the DFU mode and the apple configurator. Also every Google app is better (chrome, search, maps, recoder, photos, copying text from everywhere without screenshots).

I switched from an iPhone 14 to the Pixel 8 and regretted it. Its a good phone but there are alot of issues with it still especially with how hot the phone gets while charging (wireless its insanely hot). The modem thats inside the phone is also not very good and it sucks at holding a connection. Just a couple of things I noitced. I ended reutning the Pixel and going back to the iPhone. Maybe in a couple years when Google figures their stuff out I'll try the Pixel once more.

I recommend using 4G. Its as good if you are not doing downloads, then you can just switch to 5G for that period. I get about 7.5 hours SOT on 4G using casual apps, and that compares to 9 hours on wifi (Pixel 8 Pro). That compares well to rivals. As for heat, on 4G it is better, though not perfect, for example if you are also using the camera.
I do not game on my phone so the Pixel is very usable for me especially as I live in the UK with a climate that will not push the Pixel's thermals. I recommend especially as pre-order deals made it a bargain after the trade-in.

I am enjoying the experience on this phone. I don't game and I use 4G LTE. I later discovered that it did not come with 120 Hz out of the box so I activated it, also activated auto brightness. So, I can comment on the battery (so good), network( no issues yet), display(so beautiful yet easy on the eyes, also it gets very bright), haptics(excellent) and audio(these are some of the best speakers I've heard). What I dont like is you buy a charger separately and skins on this device look bad after a very short time. Heating only 1st day, good past that.

I really enjoy my Pixel 8! Before I got it, I was a vivid Samsung user, but since the "Material You" UI I've been following the Pixel line-up. To the phone itself: it's great, but still has some issues that I wasn't familiar with. E.g. connectivity issues, whicht strangely only started to occur, once I turned my SIM into an eSIM. Since then it came to my attention that sometimes I don't have a 5G connection and had to re-connect. Also, the back glass is not that durable; I already broke that twice in the last few months. However, I really enjoy my time with the phone, as it is the most beautiful phone on the market imo. Additionally, I think more customization options are not per sé necessary as you already have more than enough options to make it feel like it's truly your phone. Also, the size is perfect for me, because I have smaller hands. What I wish to be better, is the night time mode of the camera, as under really low light the image noise is a little bit disappointing; other than that, the camera's amazing.

My current Motorola phone shattered the other day so I've been looking at what kind of deals were available with my carrier (Verizon) and expecting to get a more budget or low-midrange phone since that's what I've done for years. I'm not big on mobile gaming or anything, mostly just web browsing and UA-cam besides calls and texts so I've never needed a flagship or "plus" type of model. I found out that by upgrading my service plan to the next step up above mine (only 6 USD more on the bill per month for what's actually a significantly better plan than I had that I would have wanted anyway) I could get the Pixel 8 at no cost whatsoever other than the extra $6 for the new plan, I was kind of amazed because I was able to get a mainline model phone for less than I would have had to pay for a Pixel 7a or a Galaxy A54 5G (the other two options I mainly considered). I know the Pixel 8 isn't perfect but coming from a $300 budget phone it'll be a massive improvement, so that deal was crazy good.

I've had my (standard) Pixel 8 since October and have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the device, mainly because everything I want and need in a smartphone is what the Pixel phones offer! That being said, and I don't know if you're aware of this because you neglected to touch upon it in your review here, but there's a pretty big controversy surrounding the Pixel 8 which the Google deciding to omit the device from this new Gemini Nano (due to 'hardware 'limitations', which seems like a bogus reason in my opinion)! It is in the Pixel 8 Pro and (I believe) in the Samsung S24 Ultra, both devices utilizing the exact hardware. This has infuriated tons of Google Pixel 8 users, seeing as the AI features are a main selling point with Google phones! It doesn't bode well for the long term usability! All of us Pixel 8 owners are hoping that Google reverses that decision and gives the Pixel 8 devices that much needed Gemini Nano.

Personally I found the Google strategy really frustrating from a pixel 8 owner. The gemini nano update is a selling point and it's frustrating knowing a less capable s24 can afford it. Where's all the AI feature? Lost.

    • @jordanjackson8873
      @jordanjackson8873 10 місяців тому +1

The s24 honestly isn't less capable. The Tensor chip is already being shown to be way weaker for tasks. They need the cloud for almost all AI tasks, and i can turn off sending data to the cloud and use every feature except the internet page summary. The Snapdragon chips are just that more powerful. The benchmarks matter, because now theyre saying the Pixel Fold and Pixel 8 have hardware limitations and cant receive certain AI feature. Either Google is lying and trying to recover costs on the 8 Pro, or they genuinely cant promise quality updates for 7 years. Either way, it's not a good look.

I dont recommend the Pixel 8, had it since launch.
Battery and thermals absolutely sucks, makes the phone feel slower than a midrange phone and thats even with 5G deactivated! And all that for a flagship price.
My battery last half a day with moderate use, Im dependant on charging at work even though I left my house in the morning with 100%, stuck at home for 1 hour waiting to get a charge to be able to go out etc.
Phone is always hot, annyoing in warm weather and makes my hands sweat...
Imagine paying for a flagship phone with flagship internals and marketed as such, but recieving a Samsung A14 in terms pf performance, and a toy drone in terms of battery.
Boycott all pixels until Google decides to actually release a decent phone, these issues has been going on since Pixel 6 until now. They simply dont care because they can buy reviewers opinions in the end and wont compensate consumers once the phone os sold.

I wanted to buy the pixel 8 since it's release but the reviews for this phone is a mixed bag for sure. It seems like some of them work great while others are buggy and prone to issues. I'm coming from an I phone SE second gen > I'm used to Apple and I'm an old guy ( 54 ) > So for me to learn Android on this phone may take some time. I just bit the bullet and ordered a brand new I phone 13 from Apple for $629.00 > Total crap I know but I did. I can get the Pixel 8 right now on Amazon for $499.00 > But then again with the hit or miss problems with the Pixel 8 I would rather buy it from a local store in case I have to return it. I think I'm going to stick with the Apple after your comment here. I'm going to be doing some world travel here very soon and I just want a phone that works > I do not want to be travelling and trying to learn how to operate shit on the Pixel. I bought my first Pixel device last year (Pixel 7) after many years of Samsung and Oppo. At first I was plenty happy even though battery life, heat, cellular and wifi reception were not as good. I still liked the Pixel OS experience and constant updates/features. However, over the last couple of months a bug has been introduced with Gboard and Android Auto (the KB becomes tiny) and it has completely disrupted my workflow as a delivery driver!!! No updates from Google and barely even an acknowledgement. Then, in the March updated Google decided to remove battery health information that tracks cycle counts and says it will only be coming to Pixel 8a and later. Gemini Nano is set to only work on P8P and higher (AI is one of the main reasons I went Pixel for Tensor). The whole experience is really starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth and I doubt my next phone will be another Pixel at this rate.

It's been ok, the Pixel's camera is much better but nothing really stands out as wow in my day-to-day use. I'm not liking the reduction in screen size 6.2"vs6.7", and the screen is nice but the colours and brightness of the screen were better on the G60S. Plus the battery, G60S lasted longer and charged faster. Feels great in the hand for swipe typing and app shuffling. I haven't bothered setting up the Face ID because I enjoy the fingerprint sensor so much. I will say my biggest gripe so far has been the call experience. There are way too many times that the person on the other end of the line struggles to make out what I am saying. pixel 8 for 3 months now.........:( the one thiing i like is shape/size..... it lags dayly, unlocks directly to weather apps sometimes . freezes at times in webpages/apps/camera, whit screen frozen for 5-10 seconds... no way to take only jpeg without AI, on AI, or AI+jpeg, so i have to delete one, .. i only use 4G, and it gets hot to the touch(35-40celcius, checked with an app), after 15-20minutes of use.....i am thinking of taking my oneplus 11 back to use...SOOOO much snappier, and no issues

On a 6A. Higher refresh would be the main reason if I upgrade/when to a 7 or 8.
