Had the pixel 7 which I ditched because of poor battery and overheating. Then had the s23 ultra which was nice, but got tired of samsung and them having a duplicate app for everything. Got the iphone 15 pro, but in the end that's just an iphone.. Now on the pixel 8 pro and I love it. Finally a pixel I can use again, I feel the same about this phone as I did when I got my pixel 2. Great phone.

I've got the pixel 8 (non pro) , love it apart from a couple of things. I'm upgrading from a Galaxy A71 so it's a massive upgrade.
Firstly, SOT for battery is amazing on wifi, over 8 hours easily I can achieve. On data, I can probably get around 4 hours usually, with no difference in my testing between LTE and 5G.
The only other issue I have with the phone is one time it overheated. It was charging in my car, plugged in for android auto, playing Spotify through the car and running a hotspot for a friend's phone and I got a notification that the phone was too hot. So yea, otherwise zero issues.
Love the phone either way. Really good design and I appreciate the great hardware and software experience.

You have just described my pixel 8 as well
on Wifi, the SOT is amazing but on data, it's like 4.5h SOT, barely 5h
that is the only complaint that I have, no overheating and reception is great tbh
and also, it drains much quicker when using camera

Won a Pixel 8 Pro on eBay, and received it a few days ago. My daily driver was the Fold 5; the UI smoothness and camera are so good on the Pixel that I'm contemplating to sell my Fold. I do love having a tablet in my pocket, but the Pixel is winning me over.

  • @e39lwd
    @e39lwd 2 місяці тому +5

I upgraded from the 6 Pro to the 8 Pro. At first I was sceptical and was worried it won't be that much of an upgrade but the screen alone was already worth it for me. The brightness boost transformed my experience whenever I'm outside or in brighter environments. The rest of the phone feels like a refinement rather than a revolution.
For the first time I also went with 256 GB instead of the base 128 GB. I don't regret that as I've found myself shooting a lot more video with the 8 Pro because it's a lot better than the 6 Pro's video. It wasn't bad in good daylight but anything other than perfect lighting felt grainy compared to the 8 Pro.
One thing that still doesn't feel "finished" is 5G. I had that off on the 6 Pro and after trying it for a few weeks I turned it off on the 8 Pro as well. They will definitely need to improve the modem and oveal CPU efficiency to really put a dent in the sales of the S24U and 15 Pro's of the world.

I bought it months ago but I love it. Definitely had some issues early on with battery life but it seems to have improved a lot. Now I hit a good 7-8 hours SOT before I need to charge my battery, so on work days it typically lasts two days. Weekends are still daily charge but it lasts all day.
Back when I first got it, it was like 3-5 hours SOT before I had to charge and it was super annoying. But since battery improved with updates or adaptive battery or whatever happened, I've re-enabled a lot of features I previously disabled to improve battery. So 5g is back on, 120hz is on, etc. And it's functioning great.
I will say it's closer to 6-6.5 hours SOT if I'm on 4G/5G all day with no WiFi though. But that's still plenty to get me through the day. And if I'm all on a trip or something I'm likely to bring a portable charger or battery bank anyway.

A new take on hardware while building incrementally and tweaking software. I really like the subtle morphing of Pixel without being completely finished but constantly going through fine tuning until the next series. The 8 series appears unfinished from the starting gate unlike early Pixels that was a finished model edition. IE ... It's like how Tesla puts out their cars and with each shortcoming it is addressed with or to a software update to correct issues. Google kinda does this as well putting a not quite ready for primetime product with continued polishing in the guise of monthly updates/feature drops. I say very well played. Maybe the competition will follow suit as they are stuck at present with providing a finished product. I gotta say I like my 8 series but get a little impatient with the incremental hiccups that do get addressed via updates. I like it when a company actually backs their product in more ways instead of being stuck with a finished product that is only improved by their next finished product. Refreshing indeed.

Iva had every single Pixel except pixel 1 and 5, now i have 7 pro didn't buy 8 pro and wont be buying another pixel unless google starts debugging (and making usable without a problem after each update) its OWN SYSTEM that even brands like xiaomi and realme have mastered and Samsung has perfected. Problems that im experiencing and have been throughout generations of pixel phones are, bad battery life , gets hella hot even when i edit a picture, main cam is good for pics not so much with video, portrait mode ? Stuck in 2018, selfie cam is bad very bad, 4g falls off , wifi, bluetooth, not even mentioning how it works with social media apps. I switched to Samsung s24 ultra, the best decision I've made. Ive always had a soft spot for pixel phones but im not willing to pay 1000€ which is 1200ish $ to have a phone that gets on my nerves, hangs, doesn't work properly.

As for AI tools, I don't think I've taught my brain to use them in a real life situation other than showing one of my mates that I can circle to search as a gimmick 😅 still pretty cool though.

I didn't think there'd be much difference between the 7PRO and the 8PRO ..but the 7PRO felt significantly larger, while the 8PRO feels compact.
The curves of 7PRO never really bothered me.
The battery on the 7PRO gave me more juice in a day compared to what I feel I get from 8PRO.
The AI ..well .. still getting used to...I think it'll get better with time.
Overall - I am happy with 8PRO.. looking forward to the 9PRO, Larger WATCH3, and BUDS PRO2

Great review brother, I just switched from iPhone 14 pro max to pixel 8pro and I am genuinely happy with my choice and the $750 triad-in value for my old phone. Before I purchase the pixel I was trying the Samsung Galaxy 24 ultra and it was good but over priced in my opinion and the pixel in the sweet spot and provides a great value for the money. My only concern is the battery efficiency and it just barely makes it through the day and it will get worse in the future but you can't have it all,can you . I hope they come up with a good size pixel watch because I love big watches 😂

I tried the Pixel 8 Pro when it first came out. I really wanted to like it, but eventually swapped it for another device. The 8 Pro had terrible judder when you were scrolling up or down webpages. This even happened on the Google feed. I put this down to the Samsung made Tensor chipset. I had a much better experience on my much older Pixel 4a 5g which used a Qualcomm 765 chipset. Even though it was much older, this was a far better chipset. I am currently using a Galaxy S24 Ultra. I chose this because of the software support and the Qualcomm 8 Gem 3. I'm hoping that with the Pixel 9 Pro, Google will switch back to Qualcomm, but I doubt it.

I don´t have the phone but it has a really unique design. Sadly looking at pixel 9 renders they are ditching the rounded edges and going with the boxy trend as every phone manufacturer seems to be doing nowadays.

Why is it hard to believe that Google announce the Pixel 8 half a year ago? There's nothing wrong with my memory.
I recently replaced my Pixel for the Xiaomi 13 Pro and I'm very happy. Okay, the OS and update policy of the Chinese are way worse (however Nova Launcher is a blessing), and it has less AI. I don't find the latter being a problem as alle these Google AI features mostly don't work in the Netherlands anyway.
But then the photos. They are so much better: not artificially over-processed. And the portrait photos cannot even be compared. Furthermore it has a fingerprint reader that actually works properly and the face recognition is blazingly fast. Not to mention the better CPU and way faster charging. No, I don't miss the Pixel.

Coming from plastic mid-range phone (Moto G82), the Pixel 8 Pro seems so heavy in comparison, despite being very similar in terms of size (Moto G82 is 6.7 Google Pixel 8 Pro is 6.8"). Moto G82 is 173g, Pixel 8 Pro 212g.
The Pixel literally feels like a brick in my pocket, can't imagine owning an iPhone Pro Max at a even more portly 221.0g. In comparison, I hardly notice the Moto G82 in my pocket.
I love the Pixel, but wish it was all plastic in construction, I cover mine in cases anyway!

90 % happy with my P8P. Heat management could have been better and display is not vibrant as samsung displays and colour temperature more on the cooler side. So photos edited on pixel 8 pro looks over saturated on other displays.

Was a nope from me, buggy, no split screen or folders, no side bar. Not a Samsung fanboy, would rather Huawei but Google restrictions make those pretty useless (sideloading not really the one), it's nice to be back to S24.
A shame as I really wanted to like Google phones, got a free pixel watch with it and it's a great piece of kit, was gonna go all in on the eco system, but couldn't accept all the glitches for that price.
