    Yes the plane & pilot are incredibly skilled and a marvel of modern engineering. But mad respect for being able to film that. Saw an F-35 at an airshow this summer and tried to even get a few good photos. Basically gave up and decided to just enjoy the show as it was just moving too fast. How you could capture this is a skill of it's own. Good job sir!

      Maybe unpopular opinion,but I have no idea what the "falling leaf" maneuver is supposed to look like. All I see is a zoomed in jet that is rotating on a couple of axis. Might as well be watching a graphic effects artist manually rotate a CGI render of the jet in 3DS Max or something.

    • @tombchaser
      @tombchaser 10 місяців тому +2

      @@jeremyb465 the jet is purposely being stalled (cutting throttle to basicly idle and if needed speed brakes are used as well) what causes the jet to basicly fall out of the sky. it becomes a falling leaf like motion by using the rudder from 1 side to the other side to prevent a out-of-control helical spin towards the ground. it usually takes the controls to their maximum limits to get the plane to respond. if performed at a low altitude 1 mistake/error can easily cause a crash.

Mind blowing things that airplanes aren’t supposed to be able to do, like stopping in the sky and just hanging there in position and then levelling off in place, turning like it’s on a turntable, still not moving forward and then blasting off in the new direction. And that wasn’t even the weirdest thing I saw it do! It’s super creepy and super cool at the same time. It’s very intimidating.

    Best Raptor vid of 2023! The sound is just incredible. This demo with overcast skies creates more vapor that seems to surround the jet like an impenetrable halo around it. Elwyn has a way of capturing these jets that just make other videos look bad. Absolutely stunning video and sound. 🙏🏼

They brought in the air shows years ago, along with surf boarding events, concerts, festivals on main street , fine dinning , and everything else. Always loved the air shows , a great place to see these talented , hardworking , pilots. God , bless America.

    Growing up an Air Force brat in the 70's and 80's I wondered what would come along in the US air arsenal that would outperform and outmaneuver the F-16 and F-15. The F-22 does this and then sum!! That pilot makes that thing "dance" in the air like no one's business! CRAZY! Makes me proud to be an American!!

    Crazy. That must be so much fun if you could do it.
    I am retired, but for 20 years I worked for a Chicago based company. Every other year or so they would hold the summer outing on the Friday before the Air & Water Show, which is a practice day for the military jets. The company rented a cruise size ship for a couple of hundred of us. Invariably the jets would buzz the ship out on Lake Michigan for kicks. Ours and theirs. I’m sure it was well within the safety zone, but it sure got loud.

    I remember watching a Dutch pilot at a Mildenhall air show going ballistic in an F16 up from the centre of the display line until invisible in a clear blue sky. He then put it in a flat spin and tumbled back into view and pulled out at about a thousand feet or less into a tight loop around the perimeter of the field. I remember it thirty years on as clearly as day. This display must have been as memorable to watch first hand too. ❤
