Is Leica worth the price? No. Could be that I'm doing this for a living and never see a Leica as a "workhorse" camera, never did and still isn't. But I never really enjoyed carrying my "work cameras" for my own recreational use shooting my kids, family, as they are cumbersome. Ever since I got the Q (used), it made me wanna bring out the camera even more, it's light, it's functional, its easy, it's great point and shoot and now I have great shots of these. Now, that's worth it.
I think Leica can be very accurately compared to Rolex. You get exceptionally well made products, but both are also luxury brands. You are not just paying for quality, but also for the exclusivity that comes with it. Just like you could get a much cheaper watch than a Rolex which also tells the time very well, you can get a decent camera that also takes amazing pictures for much less than the price of a Leica, but with a Leica or a Rolex, you almost feel like you are a member of some exclusive club.
The ghost Q2 is more a collectible version of the camera. To me, The markings on the lens and the dials are just hard to read and make it less practical to use in some ( or many) situations. The front of it is very handsome though. Probably the best looking version viewing from the front and top. Not a fan of the back tho.
i don`t know who evan ranft is.........i know Cartier-Bresson, Helmut Newton, P Lindbergh, and much more.....but no ranft..sorry, is this bad? the camera is great it is leica, i thought a lot about the Q2 monochrome, but 28mm........😞
I see Leica like I see Rolex. No one needs one, everyone wants one. Unlike say an Arri Alexa which is super expensive but it's an industry camera for a reason. Not many pros rock Leicas because they're just not the right tool for most jobs. They're a luxury toy for rich people like Ferraris or pleasure craft. If I won the lotto, hell I'd grab a Leica with a matching Rolex. Since I don't buy lotto tickets - doubt I'll ever have my hands on one lol
Interesting. See I think of it like any other camera. For example my fx3 (4,000) paired with the 16-35 (2,000). It’s actually a similar price to the Leica. I’ll make more than it’s worth within the next month using it, so for me it’s actually a good investment, but pricey for sure!
This camera makes sense for you in many ways. Ghost? Check. Clean, perfect looking piece of equipment? Check. Easy to appreciate high quality? Check. If you can afford it and have an appreciation for it I don’t see why you shouldn’t get it. My only questions is what are you going to use it for? What’s your primary goal for this camera?
