I know I'm late but if anyone watches this for reference, you push the air boots backwards into the airbox then pull the carbs out of the intake boots, you should be able to get just enough room to pull them back and out. Reinstalling is also a lot easier if you smear a little Vaseline on the carb body where it slides into the boots. It should help a bit to get them to pull over the carb so you can clamp them down.
just bought a 1982 xj750 seca. My carbs were good. previous owner was working on them but he coudlnt run without choke so i tried adjusting jets. i pulled off my exhaust system and it was rusty as hell. found some holes in it so i ordered a new one. about 500 bucks but the used ones people were selling were like 300 bucks for a junked up system. might as well buy it new. my engine sounds ok so hopefully when i put it back togther it will have no issues. well see!
he should have pushed the four rubber air intake tubes back into the plastic housing holes. It gives you a lot more room to get the carb out. As long as your rubber intake tubes have not hardened, it’s easy enough to pull them back into place. The extra room lets you rock the carb up and down as you pull it out. Makes it much easier.
That's what I do. I first soak them in WD-40, which makes them super slippery. You can then just squeeze them a bit, and they go right back into the airbox. That won't work if they are hardened from age.
If you have a Japanese bike you need to get a set of JIS cross head screwdrivers. A Phillips crosshead will cam out and strip the hell out of the screws. Save yourself a lot of heartache and aggravation and get the JIS screwdrivers.
@@kevinon4wheels Lol. Was just about to buy one of these puppies of fb for $150 (not running) but he sold it even though he said i could pick it up tomorrow 😭😭
Where can I order carburetors at. I have a 82 xj650 and whoever had it last took the carbs apart abs didn't put all the peices back in and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't run
eBay has a wealth of parts! Aftermarket, NOS, and used. I got everything there. You can find exploded OEM diagrams on most bike sites and google the part number
Easy to take the carb off , but lots harder to get back on , Started working on mine April 1st , been sitting over 20 years . Holy crap , when i got to the last float it was stuck , and broke the bracket trying to remove the pin GRRRRRR Got to find a new carb .
Oh my, I don't think I've ever seen someone first spray starting fluid all over thier fuse box, then dump gas all over it lol. I understand 'we all start somewhere', but then there's common sense.
Thanks for a great video Kevin, you will never know how much it has helped with my confidence to do the job. You sir are a star.
Thank you kindly. I enjoy returning the favor as UA-cam has helped me tremendously. Glad it helped you!

I knew about the airbox boots but didn't think about the vaseline on them to get them on. that'll make replacing my Intake Gaskets easier.
I broke a float hanger flange doing the same thing.
I JB welded mine back on.... been going for a year now that way.

They’re a lot easier to take out and put back if you just toss out the air box and run air pods
I ended up doing that!

Not gentle at all….the diaphragms are so easy to get out without pulling on the rubber.
