You're most likely right, however O still think this is a small step in a positive direction, towards more equality and acceptance. To me, the reason why less common sexual orientations need representation is to share awareness that people who are part of the LGBT community experience the same feelings, have the same dreams as any straight person. The more common and accepted it becomes to treat LGBTQ people without discrimination and with respect in media/films/ADS/books etc the more people will start to behave like that in their everyday life and maybe see though someone else's eyes! Nothing good comes from being mean, aggressive or disrespectful to someone just because their romantic/sexual life is different from the one we would want for ourselves. Everyone has the right to be happy and feel safe. Commercials like this, despite coming at least in part from an economic interest, help in this sense!

Most of these weren't so much "gay" as they had a straight person's idea of a "gay" character in them, but they were essentially a straight story - just pandering to the gay customers. Others basically just used gayness as a punchline. The one "good" one - which was well made and thoughtful - was tragic, because when gays aren't a punchline they're tragic. Sorry, not good enough! We barely get represented, when we do we're a punchline or a tragedy, and yet the straights still think we're taking over the world. Well, bring on the asteroid!
