I remember how everyone used to say that year was the worst, but they all have a couple of favorites, there were bops for everyone, variety of concepts and sounds. Now it's called one of the latest best years in kpop. That's why you should trust your own criteria, don't let other people define what's best for you. You can still find amazing songs from last year or from 4 years ago... or 15 years ago, no one is stopping you from finding songs you might like.
you worded it perfectly! every year people say that it was the worst year for music, but a few years later they always find it one of the best. thank you for watching!☺
why 2017 is called worst year was because 2ne1, wonder girls, sistar and some other legendary groups disbanded and Jonghyun from SHINee committed suicide actually.
Ever since 2019 I feel like the amount of iconic songs being released declined. Like we had boy with luv, fancy, dalla dalla, %% and hip, but now I can't even name 5 songs that really stood out in 2020 or 2021. The only good or memorable song that came out last year was stayc stereotype. Kpop groups nowadays blend into each other and have no diversity in sound or concepts
yeah but it's either that or risking their success, especially globally. Blackpink popularized the girl crush concept so much to the point everyone (specially locals) just want to see that.
God i miss 2017. THE COMEBACKS WERE AMAZING. the performances were out of this world and nothing was really that repetitive. Like it was just a good year for kpop.

Idk why but I wanna cry so bad after seeing this video! I was heavily into Kpop in 2017 and this just remembered me sooooo many moments of my youth, it's crazy seeing how far those days are 🥺 I still can sing along all this amazing songs and even remember that I learned some choreography too lol I miss how kpop felt in 2015 ~ 2017. Will never be the same. Sadly many of the bands in this video are dissolved or with less people than before:(
Yeah we all miss it somehow nowadays to many groups and a lot minors it would be cool again to have more mature older ones debuting and bring the old feels back
Nvm I just saw block b shall we dance and I heard it 2017 and thinking it was old so yes then that means everything else was a long time ago 😭 but still it doesn’t feel so far back why
i stopped being a kpop fan for three years now. this video makes me feel nostalgic, i remember dancing to most of these songs with my friends in school, enjoying our lives with little care about how cruel life can be. now my teenage years are almost over. i’m a uni student with a lot of responsibilities to bear on my shoulders and my source of happiness is nowhere to be found.
i agree with you so much!! i also entered uni and stopped having time or energy for kpop... but listening to these songs makes me feel a mixture of happiness and sadness. it feels like yesterday that some of these songs came out. i might dig up my old playlist again.
Honestly, getting older sucks, but I hope you can still find some joy in something. If university's getting to hard to bear, it's never shameful to take a break and return sometime in the future.
The diversity we had during this era and before that 😩 it was before kpop started shifting into a dance competition rather than actually focusing on music
@@lilylee6584 absolutely everything is the same, there are way too many groups yet somehow no diversity whatsoever. back then i used to be able to keep up with kpop as a whole which is why i know every single song in this video, but now it's impossible. there are too many groups and yet nobody talks about them, only way to keep up with kpop is if you stan every group. so people stick to the groups they're fans of and literally don't even hear ANYTHING about other groups, i cant rly explain. but it's just all the same. same concepts, same sound. comebacks dont feel NEARLY as crazy which is also why nobody talks about them and why it's impossible to keep up with kpop as a whole. nobody cares about anything anymore. there's no hype. ppl have started focusing more on the actual people they stan instead of the music they make, which i feel like has lead to the music quality going down. all in all, i am REALLY. DISAPPOINTED. it breaks my heart. okay that was it for my essay lol
@@veroniica I remember when I was still keeping up with kpop I stan multiple gg & bg, I remember the thrill of waiting for their comeback and guessing how their music will sound, the lyrics, and the choreography and how I won't be disappointed because each group has their own signature, none of them sound the same. Unlike today's kpop. The other day I went to a coffee shop and they play kpop songs there and every song they play sound the same the only thing I can differentiate is their voices and I think they all talking about the same thing. After watching this video I try to look up new kpop releases, one thing that I really notice is how they all sort of desperately trying to grab your attention the mvs remind me of those clickbait UA-cam thumbnail with really bright colors and some irrelevant shocking factor
@@lilylee6584 i think the genre has expanded so much that it feels less special and exciting. instead of staying up all night to wait for a comeback to drop, now the attitude is more like "wow, it's only been 1 month and they've already churned out a whole new abum when I'm still recovering from the last one". ofc there's still some good songs, but the focus + purpose of the music has shifted
I listen to kpop since 2014 but in my humble opinion 2016-2017 was the best year, I miss those days where I would sit with my friends and wait for comeback not knowing what to expect because everyone was doing a variety of concepts, such a nostalgic video Also queen Spring Day, still remember how this song had shaken the community 😌

I remember watching spring day for the first time and my life was never the same again lol I’d like to experience that again
Wow. Literally had the same experience. I remember I started listening to kpop and had only four songs from BTS saved on my phone after I discovered them through the Not Today and Spring Day MV. It was Fire, Not Today, Spring Day, and Save me. Wah… Still listen to this day. And the fashion yeah! I remember how everyone was going crazy over idol outfits in dance practice videos like with Jimin and Jungkook’s in BS&T and Baepsae (JK’s Timberlands ;-;) and Kai’s outfit in The Eve.
This year also Day6 released an MV per month, yes, every month !! This project was called “Every Day6” (because every 6th of the month an MV was released) and omg the masterpieces !! What a time to stan them, if I only had met them earlier ;(

not to be dramatic, but this year of songs _literally changed my life_ . i'd been familiar with kpop since 2015, but 2017 was when i really fell into the genre bc of my best friends. unfortunately i moved away & was so busy in high school that i don't see those friends much anymore. despite the sadness i feel at losing them, i'm so glad i held onto the music. it's been the central media of my teen years, and i've gotten to grow up alongside it. such a bittersweet experience to realize you'll never get to experience these songs the same way as when you were younger. i still am a kpop fan, but for me this era was the height of genuine happiness, kpop wasnt extremely mainstream yet and it felt like a personal joy to me :,)

The years 2010's is full of kpop songs that are experimental. And 2017 still has that essence that's why the concepts are still diverse. As years pass, companies try to play it safe that's probably why there seems to be less diversity now than in this vid.
kpop stans who was around this time knew the feeling of seeing the industry change before their eyes. this was the time when kpop was so diversed, groups were unique from one another and we can have a variety of music to choose and vibes to. but as the years passed, that variety started to fade out. i know that evolving is a good thing, especially if you're an artist. but almost all groups nowadays sounds so similar. its just sad.
Sometimes I wish to forget everything about kpop and listen to all these songs like I've never heard them. That feeling was the best. This is why 2017 will always be my favorite year when my kpop journey just started.
I got in kpop in 2016 but it was a shitty year for me(family, school and financial problems) so 2017 was the best year for me, because everything started getting better. It was the most fun year I had as a kpop fan with discovering new goups, getting real life friends that listened to kpop(we are still friends to this day even if most of us parted ways with kpop), participating in kpop projects and a lot of other things. After the dark periods I lived in 2016, 2017 brought a lot of light to my life that’s why it was a meaningful year to me and this video made me feel really nostalgic.

It feels so painful cause year or two later I’m almost out of k-pop leaving all my friends, 2015-2017 were such a great time, I was... happy? And carefree! I think I can’t listen these songs anymore cause all of these memories, it hurts me a lot But thank u for the vid, it was nice to see some of my favourite MV again
I’m going to cry… In 2017 I remember going after school to my best friend’s house and we waited 5:00pm because of Spring Day mv release… now she is in England and I’m in Italy, we’re friend but not like before. It makes me cry, I have so many beautiful memories thanks to BTS and Kpop in general. I was fifteen, I was happy, life was more easy and I just have nostalgia. I want to go back in time and live those memories again.
i remember back then people hating 2017 but there was actually a lot of good songs, it's pretty nostalgic concept wise. we need this type of diversity in concepts again fr fr
this brings back so many memories. i was introduced to bts in summer of 2017, slowly discovered other popular kpop groups and had most of these songs in my playlist. i am not as enthusiastic about kpop as i used to be back in 2017-20, I discovered other non-kpop music artists and interests and am now over my kpop fangirl phase and don't find interest in stanning new kpop groups. I still stan bts and fangirl when listening to their music and am so grateful for all the memories I've made with them. would i like to turn back time and experience the excitement of being a baby kpop stan, going crazy about every bts comeback and staying up late to stream their music ? yes, why not ? good old simpler days..💜

the way you just explained my experience as a kpop fan :(( i also like to fangirl but it's just pure nostalgia, cause bts ain't releasing any "good" song lately if only the 2020-22 groups released songs as good, i would try and stan them just to feel the excitement before a comeback!
i remember watching spring day at morning before going to school at my birthday, its the best day and best birthday gift ever like i literally cried, i miss 2017 so much
Fun story: I was living in Korea in 2017 and I was walking near my work, past some shops and restaurants, and there were some high school girls around. I saw two girls about to go into a restaurant and one of them goes "meokko shipshi anha!" To the tune of the Seventeen song! It was so funny! That's what I think of every time I hear "Don't Wanna Cry"
its interesting how some of these songs already feel like dated relics of their time and some of them still feel really out of the box and next level. im kind of surprised how my opinions have changed since back when i was hearing these songs everywhere, but im also relieved that the trends i hated back then that were common between kpop and western pop have at least died down in kpop. all in all, its hard to believe this was just one year.
this was the year I got into kpop, im way more distant now but it's interesting to see how the trends and music have changed in such a relatively short time !
I started listening to kpop back in 2014. I discovered bts' japanese version of I need u and I was hooked. 2019 I stopped listening to Kpop all together. I graduated highschool and I focused on other things and new music. I had already realized how hurtful the industry could be by that time and I felt disgusted. But looking back now I do miss those years. I was just a kid enjoying music, visuals, art and getting excited to connect with other people and the groups and artists. Things were different back then and I do miss those times. All those songs too! So beautiful, I can still sing along to most of them 🥺
I remember telling my friends i could never imagine not loving kpop and how it made me so happy, and it did i was in a very joyful bubble but it had to pop at some point. It's alright tho let's embrace the memories
For me 2020 BTS MOTS7 era was superior. All meaningful songs with hardest choreographies and masterpieces like Black Swan. Mots7 signified the maturity of BTS
Love the nostalgia, I wasn't in kpop that year but now I know and love all of these songs🥳 , it's crazy to think twice, red velvet, bts and even seventeen too released SO many great songs that are classics still now 🎉
for sure! it’s so cool seeing all these amazing artist grow and evolve with their music style and release music that’s very different every comeback and they still know how to make fresh and exciting new songs that turn into classics after being in the game for so long!!🥰
THE NOSTALGIA I FEELLLLL i was 12 years old getting into kpop and 2017 was one of the most fun years of my life🖤🥲 I'm 16 now and while I'm still a kpop stan, watching this made me really miss those years! For me kpop was so freaking exciting back then.
"Excuse" me got me into stanning girl groups but "As if it's your last", that Masterpiece solidifies me into a Kpop Stan! Isn't crazy we all started stanning around 2017?
2017 is so refreshing compared to nowadays, the concepts were fun and unique while not being wacky, the groups didnt try to break into western music like a bunch of tryhards unlike some groups recently.
the memories omg... after i ended my LONG LONG EDM phase months before, i got into kpop in july 2017 and seeing this makes me want to go back and relive these songs all over again😭

2017: when there were more concepts than just edgy girl crush. :'(
true, but I feel like 2021 definitely gave us some refreshing concepts for girlgroups again☺️
Fr, I actually miss the cute concept and a few others :(

Same, i’m not really into kpop as I used to be back in 2017 :(
Yeah we all miss it somehow nowadays to many groups and a lot minors it would be cool again to have more mature older ones debuting and bring the old feels back
exactly....
Honestly to me it doesn’t seem so far away though 🤔
Is kpop really that bad these days? I don't really keep up with kpop
@@lilylee6584 wouldn't really say it's bad but rather boring cause everyone is doing the same or similar concepts
I listen to kpop since 2014 but in my humble opinion 2016-2017 was the best year, I miss those days where I would sit with my friends and wait for comeback not knowing what to expect because everyone was doing a variety of concepts, such a nostalgic video

This is too nostalgic 😭 still can't believe I've been into k-pop for six years and this specific year was something for me 😭
this was the year I got into kpop, im way more distant now but it's interesting to see how the trends and music have changed in such a relatively short time !

I still remember twice having a seasonal comeback. They literally have a comeback at least 3 times a year.
Love the nostalgia, I wasn't in kpop that year but now I know and love all of these songs🥳 , it's crazy to think twice, red velvet, bts and even seventeen too released SO many great songs that are classics still now 🎉
for sure! it’s so cool seeing all these amazing artist grow and evolve with their music style and release music that’s very different every comeback and they still know how to make fresh and exciting new songs that turn into classics after being in the game for so long!!🥰
literally! it was so FUN to be into kpop at that time
Got into kpop in 2017, i really miss this era so much ;-;
2017 was the year kpop sounded the most kpoppy. Up until 2019 it died down and now it's almost falling off
I thought most of the Kpop songs sounded like As If Your Last before I became a Kpop stan
2017 was a good year for kpop. I wish I discovered it back then
It surely was. I was 13 and used used listen to kpop all day. Ahh I miss itt

Me too
"Excuse" me got me into stanning girl groups but "As if it's your last", that Masterpiece solidifies me into a Kpop Stan!
Isn't crazy we all started stanning around 2017?
2017 is so refreshing compared to nowadays, the concepts were fun and unique while not being wacky, the groups didnt try to break into western music like a bunch of tryhards unlike some groups recently.
the memories omg... after i ended my LONG LONG EDM phase months before, i got into kpop in july 2017 and seeing this makes me want to go back and relive these songs all over again😭
the weird thing about this time period was that half the songs sound like old kpop and half sound modern
Probably my favourite year of kpop, Some of my favourites from 2017 were: Unbelievable by Victon, Star by Boyfriend, Shangri La by Vixx and I'm Ready by Map6. Can't forget the pre-debut release of Hellevator by Stray Kids.
I WAS SO INLOVE WITH SHANGRI LA WHEN IT CAME OUT WHY DOESNT ANYONE EVER MENTION IT
BRUH BOW THAT YOU MENTIONED VIXX DESERVES BETTER
should give Dora maar by onlyoneof and the Kpop group ONEUS a chance, they’re small groups so they don’t get much attention but I’m telling you, their music does not follow nowadays trends it’s so unique and down to the soul. 🌌
@@wendyzelaya182 I already listen to them.
I remember listening to Star all day on repeat and feeling emo, creating a sad story in my head. Really love that song!
I learned about kpop in 2016 but really got into it in 2017 and it's honestly still my favorite year in kpop because every song and era was amazing and made my year even more special with an amazing soundtrack for all the good and bad times. I hope we can have another year like 2017 soon
When kpop was good and wasn’t so mediocre:
Literally have been a kpop fan since 2015 and I saw this whole industry change with my own eyes
Kpop songs used to be good until 2019-2020 I still remember playing aiiyl on repeat it was so catchy and now BLACKPINK disappeared into thin air
i agree, i feel like everything went downhill during 2019
LMAO suddenly I remember a jennie meme busy cycling while bringing a bouquet of flower on her back around the town, the girls literally do anything but no comeback 🤣
Ikr
Agreed. Its getting worse, so are the fandoms /: I miss 2016...
