It is actuallu kind of unbelievable that kpop was so freaking iconic back then. Just look how many hits there were in just one year. Now it is all gone. I'm not saying that there is no more good music in kpop nowadays, but the thing that stands up for me is that now everything is so divided. Groups have their fanbases, who listens to their music, but there are not that many songs that every kpop listens to. Like there are no hits that everyone would sing to despite which fandom you belong to. I miss those times, when award shows were full of the biggest stars, seeing interactions, reactions to each other performances and so on...

New kpop songs just doesn't give the vibe of the older songs and thats totally understandable but it just doesn't make me wanna listen to them like before. Some groups became too western if that makes sense and some groups became much more mature. Both things are understandable as they get bigger in popularity and older but it doesn't feel like what I signed up for a few years back. I still enjoy new bands but most of my playlists are of older songs from 2th and early 3rd gen and I stop listen to most new songs after 2 or 3 months. This 'cute' concept of KPOP was pure gem! I wish we can see it again❤️The new gen kpop concepts are full of complicated costumes and really hard dance choreography( no hate, I love them), but these songs have a really unique different, pleasing vibe with simple costumes, that was gold!

I got into kpop sometime in 2016, started college later that year. I still remember BTS's Not Today comeback, the song at first was like "this is just fine, nothing to write home about" but let me tell you, it hits different after you finish your calc3 exam, you have not slept for three days in a row, are starving but you are still running on a treadmill on your top speed, gasping for breath but you can't stop because Namjoon says that *A DAY MAY COME WHEN WE LOSE, BUT IT IS NOT TODAY; TODAY WE FIGHT!!!!*

(this was also the last great year of gen 2/3 sm groups (shinee, super junior, snsd, exo) before they turned all of their attention and efforts to nct). so many iconic hits, 2017 was truly a historic year for kpop.
