i totally agree with you that citations are truly unique, and there no comparing it to Cgi, even the father of stop motion preferred using actual armatured figures than cgi computer animation, also that was a very cool stop motion clip
Very well made tutorial! The one thing I will say is you should always animate to a specific framerate, changing it afterwards will change the timing of everything.
I change the speed of animations in post a lot, but I tend to animate "cycles" on spec and then change the timing to fit the project. This way I have an array of stop motion creatures I can use in films whenever I need a special touch or extra monster.
Well that was a quick sub! I didn’t get 2 mins in and I knew I had to subscribe. This right here reminds me of “the golden age” of UA-cam. So much quality packed into a short video!
How can you delete string or anything that you use to attach to the clay figures in order for them to fly or move freely in the air? I don’t to know the string or whatever I use that makes the motion.
I noticed in the timelapse (~3:30) that you seem to have a remote trigger device to activate the shutter (take the photo each time) without touching the camera (phone). Can you tell us what that device is, or even post a link to it? Thanks!!
Yeah, this little button came with the UBeeSize tripod I mentioned in the video. It actually dies pretty quickly so I'm not a fan. If your phone has a headphone jack, and your earbuds have a volume button on the cord, that's my favorite way to remotely take pictures without having to touch the screen. There's probably better solutions, anybody have other ideas? 😅
I guess if you maybe make multiple models of the same character if you're going to have to destroy it and bring it back over and again like with the pool. Great video and I'm def trying that app you mentioned. Not everyone can afford adobe after effects or similar software for animation. Ty for the tutorial .
Honestly I think I remade this guy at least six times because after a while, an all clay character will slowly fall apart unless you have an actually well made rig or puppet or character or whatever you're using. But yeah, for parts where you only see half his body in the water or something, that's just a totally separate character I made
Loved this so much! Thank you! I saw how you had a water droplet captured mid air. How do you capture things mid air for stop motion? You just toss them in the air and hope for the best when taking the picture?
I actually didn't use any photoshop or wire. What I do is stick a toothpick in the back of it and stick the otherside into another piece of clay against the wall so the toothpick is hidden to the camera but it looks like the clay droplet is floating
Go ahead and do couple second projects first. Once you get about 10 second claymation start doing actual projects. Ignore any hate comments. I believe in you
I try to make the pictures be timed so I can either hold him, hang him from a wire, or have him stuck to something. There's better ways to do this with photoshop but that's how I did it

Hello, thanks for this very useful video. I am just starting to make realistic and higher budget claymations after years of silly ones that did not have a complex set. If anyone would like to see my work, I would appreciate that and any feedback.

I’m guessing you could use a small thread or fishing line!
Use a metel rig then you merge it with another photo with only the background and edit it to make the rig disappear

What did Walt Disney learn to use claymation?
Walt Disney much preferred lifelike (inspired by real life) hand-drawn animation over any other forms of animation, including claymation
