      It kept the sticks down, the hitting from behind, and the slashing of the hands under control. Players knew if they crossed the line, there was a price to pay. It was not this half-hearted watch-me toss two punches so I look good. It was you have a fine coming, and the price will hurt more than 5 grand to the players' fund.

    When two guys fight in the NHL today, it looks like choreography. In the early nineties, I watched a lot of games via satellite. That was a very different time. Hockey today may be much faster and better in every way than it was back then, but the old days were more fascinating. That's for sure. Greetings from Germany.

      A name not Red Wing lore but as a puck head kid my dad took me to the last game at Olympia and Dennis Polinich made a run at Guy LaFleur. It was Jaques ( I said Marty earlier, a RW legend though)LaPoint went over to him and they dropped the mittens. LaPoint was a big man back then but Polinich held his own. I also saw the second game in Joe Louis against Toronto. Tiger Williams and Polinich fought not once or twice but three times that game. Tiger went to the locker room after the first fight, got stitched up. Second fight, Polinich opened up the stitches again and blood everywhere. Third period Tiger comes out again, Polinich hopped over the boards and they went again, blood everywhere.It was like how many times does a guy have to prove he's tougher/ better fighter. Obviously I'll never forgot it. Nothing compared to what we saw that night at the old Joe.

    I grew up in Detroit in the 60's. I got to see some of best wings enforcers. From Howe to probert to McCarty to kocur to konatantinov. Probert was the best. Toughest sob I've ever seen fight. That guy would go with anyone. Talk shit and you would get to see Bob. The best one I saw was the tye domi fight. Afterwards, when Domi was skating away, Steve yzerman was making a motion like " who's got the belt now" . Bob beat the crap out of Domi. The other one was when Darren McCarty got ahold of Claud lemuxie , for what he did to draper. Oh the dynasty years.

  • @christophertipton2318
    @christophertipton2318 Місяць тому +14

    Yep, Probert and Kocur were a pair to steer clear of. Moreover, Probert was a pretty good hockey player, not just an enforcer. Him and Kocur both took fighting lessons at the Kronk Gym in Detroit. If you notice, Probert tries to upper cut as much as possible. That was a technique he learned at the Kronk. The Kronk instructors pointed out punching straight caused both fighters to slide away from one another on their skates, whereas an uppercut allowed you to land more effective punches because your body wasn't trying to move away. Simple physics.

    • @UAPbigfootandBOATDRINKS

      @christophertipton2318 16 днів тому

      @@UAPbigfootandBOATDRINKS True, but when you're on skates, the physics of the matter tend to reduce the power of a straight punch, making an uppercut a probable better punch. Physics is also a major reason hockey players will grab each other's sweaters with one hand and punch with the other.

    Bob probert as a human being was very athletic. But as Chris Chelois said it's ashame he did feel the pain other players did because he was numb,from his cocaine.use.He left home at a very young age.May God be with him Amen

    I don't EVER remember Probert 'flattening' Wendel Clark ! They fought 3 or 4 times and every fight was pretty close with Clark winning at least one of them. And I am NOT a Leafs fan. These announcers are very bias when they want to be.
    Nice to see the scraps with Bomber. A lot of people don't remember Baumgartner but he was a tough guy, and a smart fellow off the ice as well.
    RIP Probie..the toughest HW Enforcer ever.

      Nfl was in 60,70 80s, today's game don't resemble anything from back then,it was a lot rougher, and on principle alone, if a qb ran,he was drilled, they didn't care about a whistle or flag

    Early 1990’s, Hartford, Probert skates behind the net chasing a Whaler as a puck clears up ice. Whaler turns around just before blue line, stops, and send a punch into Probert’s face. Probert never saw it coming and dropped onto the ice. Refs missed it because play was up ice. Probert on his knees bleeding. Whaler fans cheering. Old time hockey!
