They didn't need licensing to do the vintage stock cars. One year at Toy Fair Nascar came to our booth (Carrera) and tried to tell me that the cars we did that year were Nascars, I told them that they weren't, they were ARCA and that they couldn't enforce a license they didn't hold. They weren't expecting anyone to know this I guess. But I picked all the car liveries for the US from 2010 until the 2018 releases. I researched every single one and knew when/where they raced. Production of cars. Cars are only run once. There is no such thing as "more" of a run of cars. Unless they're in a set. In the 7 years I was there cars were only run again, once for a set. If this has changed I would be very surprised. I've talked with the president of Carrera of America and he has the same opinion still. In essence... "once a car is sold out we don't have to worry about inventory sitting on the shelves for more than fiscal year." This is the mentality of the slot business of all brands. To be clear too, there would never be a 1/24 Nascar. They cost FAR too much to make and 1/24 is a tiny percentage of their market. They sell maybe 5% of their total sales in 1/24. Over 60% of their market is 1/43. The rest is 1/32 analog and digital. A good selling 1/24 car was maybe 150 pieces. A good selling 1/32 car was over 1500 pieces. 1/24 molds cost over 100k... there's simply no way to make money on 1/24 for US-specific cars. Track pieces are only made as needed, usually only once a year. Carrera intentionally doesn't make more than needed of track pieces because they don't want to carry stock from year to year. This is for a very specific reason. They do this because in Austria tax is charged based on inventory they hold at the end of the fiscal year. And because the stock held in the US is ALSO effects the tax paid in Austria by the company. So they like to run down the inventory levels to too low rather than be too high. Only Hendrick cars were done because they're the most popular drivers AND they have the support of Hendrick to sell the cars/sets on the Hendrick online stores. Since the Camaro is now out of production in real life and is being used in body only (the Camaro branding is removed for the 2025 Nascar season-the name on the car is just Chevrolet). The body cannot be changed for racing it has to be used as-is for 2025 and will likely change to some other type of body for the 2026 season. The short answer is there's no way to know what might be done. Nascar is VERY strict with what they allow. So it's likely that IF Carrera is allowed to use the body again they will have to remove the "Camaro" name on the bottom of the chassis.. yes, Nascar would be that picky. Since the body cannot change at all and still be allowed to race in Nascar in 2025 I do think we could see a pair of liveries next year on this current slot car. Carrera did the event at Watkins Glen because it was close to the NJ HQ, this was the only event. White cars simply don't sell. I had to give away the cars because no one wants them (dealers I mean). Also the license has to be paid even it a car isn't "painted". Scalextric's market isn't digital, they have no emphasis on digital or the app. I was there for the development for the app and they had NO idea what to include in the app, and didn't want to put too much into it. They just wanted to kinda have an app just because. They won't expand it because more than 95% of their sales are for simple analog sets and cars. The British market is VERY provincial.
Hey Dave, Thanks for the insight into how the restocks work. I didn't realize cars only had one printing. Thanks for the other corrections too. Honestly I don't mind being corrected as comments help boast us on the algorithm. ~BIlly
NASCAR uses Uniform Bodies, so maybe Hendricks could keep their body design with New Paint Scheme. Would be nice if other NASCAR teams would get on board with Carrera too.
Better not say how many weeks ago the NASCAR's were in the local specialist hobby shops where i live. Have three analog cars so far. Biggest issue is getting decent aftermarket tyres for them. Same with my neighbour wanting his four cars to race on Saturday night but we raced his cars that use standard wheel designs which have tyres available widely.
This is a Canadian Channel. Other countries will get new items before us. I'm located right by the Canadian distributor so we get the items the same week as they arrive (unless it arrives late in the week). All modern Carrera cars have difficult rim designs that make it hard to produce after market tires. Hopefully someone finds a good solution.
Hi Amanda and Billy. I doubt there will be NASCAR cars in 124. The costs for the mould would be too high for them. They wouldn`t invest in such thing, unless they get it sold with a bargain. Although NASCAR is big in the US and Canada, it is not that popular over here in Europe. There is a European NASCAR series running here, but it doesn`t get that big attention. They are being sold here, like the elder ones already did, but I think Carrera is not going to risk a negative experience with it over here in 124. I would buy them, because I am NSCAR fan since my youth, eh! 🙂 What I know so far, that there will be a new mould next year in 124. Which one, Carrera did not mention yet and why would they? 🙂 In terms of the Go!! cars, Carrera won`t change their guide keels to movable ones like other 143 producers have them. There were requests about it, but Carrera stays in the 143 system the way they are. These informations slipped thru, when s.o. payed a visit to Carrera recently from Austria. In terms of the Hybrid system, which will be released soon, we will have to wait, if there will be a future for that system, because you can only use it with a smart-phone and the App for it. Means, if this system will not sell pretty good for Carrera, one will have to count on, that there will be an App only available for a cetain amount of time. That would mean, one has the hardware laying around, but won`t be able to use it, after the App is no longer supported than. I think Carrera is here on a risky trail with this kind of system in the long term. Besides, you cannot run persistent steady run times, like with a slotcar track, simply because you can stear with your smart-phone to the side, if you want to run into a curve, but will never be able to get a repeated run, doing so. Also you can run them only about thirty minutes and than have to refill the batteries for twenty minutes. So, no long run fun is going to disappoint impatient kids than. There is only the Porsche 911 livery so far available for the Hybrid system yet. There will be definetly other liveries, but that will come probably next year. If one considers to purchase that system, he/she has to keep an eye on the facts, I just menioned. It is an awesome invention of that system, which is not that new, because there is already an other manufacturer that has this kind of system, which Carrera by the way cooperates with. But this system for sure will never be a rival for the good old slotcars. Definetly not! 🙂 Greets over to you guys 🙂
I'm using a 50-year-old arroyo AF X controller because these ones that come with my career go. The Stone controllers suck. You know, and I finally ordered me. A controller in it came in last week. I got me a mid American products. Love it. What was my point? Oh, I'm old.
@Sundayslotcars I took. One of the 3 wire plugs and I made little places to put alligator clipso I plug that in and then clip alligator clips to it from the controller.
Great post Billy n Amanda 👏 I personally would love a 124 nascar release, the bigger model would handle more realistically 🤗
@@SCALE_SLOTCARS_AND_RC It's hard to convince them to take risks. We'll see though.
