In my younger years I had two Le Tours . One got smashed in a head on crash and the second got stolen . I wish I understood more about those bikes and how good they actually were since I rode the snot out of both of them usually doing 40 miles a ride with a buddy with the sand bike, no helmets, no kit . Just two kids wanting to put miles on . Nice to see these bikes still live !
This one is currently somewhat dissembled, but soon I’m going to get it going again.
I've got a cro-moly Trek 800 Antelope 1992. 26 inch wheels. I love this bike. Like you did, I want to add drop bars. Make it either a road bike or a gravel bike. I love taking old bikes and re-imagining them. keep up the work

I made a similar retromod vintage bike....only my 1X is 7 speed and I mounted the downtube shifter on the handlebar next to the left hand brake lever. I have Michelin tires too they are smooth and grippy.
nice sounds good. I'm hoping to get back to this bike soonish.
I found the best rattle can paint for bikes is the Rust-Oleum Appliance Enamel. I think it comes in White, Almond, Black and Silver. Takes a while to dry but leaves a very durable finish.

Oh woah I've never seen anyone else have Tiagra 4400 brake calipers very cool! I have almost the full groupset minus the hubs, but very underrated!
for real! I really find them to be good. Actually all the Tiagra stuff, at least this vintage I do like.

I just recently bought a Schwinn Le Tour from the Goodwill for $50 in great shape. I stumbled across your channel and I like how you have modified yours. I have similar plans for mine and getting back into riding again. Good video. I just Subscribed.

@@BruceChastain I just picked up a pair of 700c wheels for my le tour and I'm trying to find a wider gravel tire. Do you know the max width tire I can use on the le tour? I'm worried about the the rear tire rubbing on the frame. I was thinking of using a 35, 38 or 40 width tire.

Bike looks solid. Nice color choice. I’m a big fan of the IXF crankset. I have one on my recent budget build.
A light that is not water resistant is useless. Rain happens. I recently bought a light on Amazon for $50. An alleged 1800 lumens, solid aluminum construction, dual Cree LEDs, very long battery life. Other than being heavy, it’s pretty awesome. It has gotten quite a bit of use this winter. The light has gotten rained on a few times; no issues.
thanks Peter! I actually assumed it was water resistant, but after it stopped working due to a pretty big rain once, I went onto their website and discovered that it never claimed to be water resistant.

It’s ok to have some scratches on you’re frame , I have those same bottle cages on my road bike there solid .

Old Shovel (I'm sure you know the channel) is doing a fantastic job painting old frames with Spray bikes products. I think he had no prior experience doing paint jobs, so it's possible! It's just requires patience.
The bike look nice anyway. I've done a few builds based on old italian road frames from the 80's, they offer such a good ride quality, it never disappoint.
hey there Cécile! Yes I watch pretty much all of his videos. For sure I could do better. But now I'm wondering if when considering the cost of the paint and other products, if it's not the same price to simply have someone powder coat.
@@BruceChastain I would say for a single color, Spray.Bike is the "cost" winner in terms of complete project cost but loses in terms of durability. For multiple colors, effects (fades, stencils, etc) being creative e or just having fun, SprayDotBike (or the like) is the clear winner.
A couple points to be aware of...
-PREP IS THE KEY.
-If you want a glass smooth finish, you're going to have to go the extra step(s) and allow proper curing time and sand in between coats.
- Multiple light coats. This is key especially if you're using stencils or tape so that the colors doesn't bleed underneath.
-Use a 2K clear coat for added durability, but make sure you have proper ventilation and PPE! If not, SprayDotBike will get it done
-Oh yeah...PREP PREP PREP lol
If you really want to get funky, outline the lugs with a light silver paint pen before you clear it. That'll make the lugs pop and give it a pro look. Spray.Bike and powder coat (matte finishes)go on kinda thick and the lugs don't pop "as much" compared to wet paint (thinner) and drown the lines just a bit.
You're bike looks great!! I have a soft spot for older lugged hybrids and turn them into retro-mod gravel monsters quite frequently.
So, chainring and crankset on my huffy parkside swapped out and now it does pretty solid beyond me being out of shape.
Trying to figure out what I should do to the thing next to try making the ride better considering it has a very upright posture setup, I can't read the free numbers on the twist shifter, and I'm sure there is a lot I don't know they is just screaming at more knowledgeable people.
In the meantime riding the thig when weather is pretty to maybe work on cardio.

@@BruceChastain the welds on mine are honestly super nice and it does good as is, I'm just of a mindset of 'i am using this in an environment it isn't entirely intended for since comfort cruiser going through rutty fields'
Just kinda fishing for advice on thigs to look for.
But beyond that itch to tinker it's been doing super nice over the past three months. The chain ring reduction simply makes me riding feel less like a chore and more like I'm actually getting to ride.
Nothing wrong with good honest patina. I don't think I've ever had a car bike rack that didn't scuff up the paintwork in some spot no matter the type or cost. Just a unfortunate part of hauling bikes around.
the rack I have now is pretty darn good. It's the type that you set the tires on and then it has a foam covered bar that clamps down on the top tube. Unfortunately a lot of these scratch came before I got this newer rack.
Did you convert from 1" to 1-1/8 fork? I want to do that too on my Copeland

You were supposed to spray 2-3 coats of primer and 2-3 coats of paint and 2-3 coats of clear to give it a fighting chance to survive.
So . . . What's the weight of the bike now ? How much weight did it drop?

What's the rated lumens and battery life of the light ?
hey AB! Yes 9.8 is right, why so funny? Actually it's a little less than that now but that's another video to come. It's rated at 800 lumens.

Picked up a super sport just going to leave it stock, going to rebuild it but no mods. Leave the classic bike as they made it.

Not sure if you've mentioned them in previous videos....but your clipless shoes, what are they?
For my 2 bolt shimano setups I use ME3s for my fixed gear and spirited rides and Five Ten Hellcats for errands and when I want to be more subtle when I'm off the bike.

fantastic. what was the original wheel size? why break adaptor?
thank you Michael! The original wheel size was 27", so I created the adapter to fit the 700c wheelset. A lot of these older road bikes had the 27" wheel.
I got around shifting issues by going full friction. Pretty ambitious changing out the fork. What carbon fork are you using?
yes same here, friction shifting makes things nice and easy. The fork was from my 1999 Pinarello, I don't really know anything more about it.
How did you go about making the rear brake adapter? What was the spacing between the holes? Looks like it was a pretty chunky piece of metal?
Take a look at the initial video on this bike, you can get some info on how I did it inside that video. If you really need more I can dig up some info.
