You are absolutely correct.
Where I live it's very common, especially at night. Last week I drove about 20 minutes away just to find out the passenger called for his younger sister who is underage. The sad thing is when I called ahead he didn't even mention it was for someone else. Total waste. Never again. At least I've got $5 out of it.
Uber and lyft should both have a check box when people sign up verifying they are over 18 or that they understand you have to be 18 to use the platform. A lot of people don't even know but then again a lot of people do.
@@Drivetowin13 They need more than that if you ask me. They need to make passengers provide real names, an actual photo, ID, background checks, current phone numbers, etc. We drivers have through all that crap just to get behind the wheel.
@@wturner777 For sure there is no doubt I wish they would do all that.
Uber & Lyft allow these passengers to download the app to take rides. No validation process in place but if hey have these passengers upload a valid ID, it would could down on minors downloading the app. The next problem will be the parents who use their own accounts to order rides for unaccompanied minors. The minute a driver has an accident with the unaccompanied minor, the Rideshare company will deactivate the driver for violating their terms of service (TOS) and the insurance will not cover the accident. Therefore leaving the driver to pay all expenses including medical bills, etc. etc.
You are correct. It is way smarter to decline under 18 than risk it.

Yeah that's exactly why I talked to them as soon as they opened the door. I don't ever let them get in if I feel they are uner age.
You drive away, two seconds later, they order another driver.
Very true which is why I always report them.
I believe we have to wait the 5 minutes to collect a no show fee. Reporting them as unaccompanied minors gets you nothing.
@@TheFleahost Yes you have to wait the 5 minutes to collect or have them cancel. If they cancel then you don't have to do anything. I still always report it
Funny it seems like Uber should be aware of minors asking for a Uber ride to be ignored because how are we suppose to know how old a person is that enter our car when they could pass for 18-21 just by how they look you know. Uber really needs to step up with that rule.
I personally believe that uber doesn't care if minors are getting rides because it's more money to them but I believe they want to give the impression that they care for safety reasons. There are so many things they could do to ensure riders are over 18
Drivetowin 13 exactly! I mean it’s crazy how they could just let a minor come in our car when they could easily check this person out on their age, it’s that simple. The other day I was doing Uber eats and I got a request to pick up two subs and two drinks, once I got their the customer was a child which surprised me because the kid was only 7 yrs old. I’m like Uber is now letting kids make order, like come on, it’s ridiculous.
@@Anomalous602 I would be so upset if I found out my child was ordering a stranger to bring food to the house.
Drivetowin 13 exactly, I’m like since when does a kid have the ability to order Uber Eats to deliver or maybe the parents are allowing them to do so. Either way it looks really bad on Uber to allow something like that and if it happens again, I definitely will make a complaint because it’s dangerous with a random stranger dropping off something to a kid especially when Uber doesn’t do a thorough background check on people.
