I don't know if this is in the comments yet, but Karl King wrote this, because his band's euphonium player said that the music that Karl writes wasn't hard enough. XD
I just hope that said euphonium/baritone player got to play this song in concert at least ONCE before the trombonists lynched him. Those slides must have been red-hot after a run through THIS garden.
I adore the first clarinet part. But even as a woodwind, I totally respect the amount of talent and practice the euphonium has to dedicate to this piece.
I played this 35 years ago with a couple of the best euphonium players I ever performed with. The best started the trio (ex prof of trombone/euphonium with the navy) and when he ran out of gas I jumped in and when I ran out of gas the 3rd jumped in. Sounded like this recording. None of us could get through the whole trio.
Sureshot274, I was a euphonium player in middle and high school. Got a few awards, the whole shebang. Concert band will always be a part of me. Having said that, you're right. there needs to be more cool euphonium-centered pieces. Check out some of James Curnow (Symphonic Variants).
umm can i just say WOW!!! That is a GREAT job by the Euphonium player!!! We almost did this as a high school. I play Euphonium and only our 1st chair player could tackle this solo!! Love this song though!
Keep in mind euphonium were kinda in a experimental stage in 1910. Things like double bells were around I don't think most Americans used compensating horns
Y'all know that Karl King was a baritone horn player...and featured the eighth note counter-melody in that instrument in addition to the piccolo, flute, 1st clarinet, alto saxophone and alto clarinet? This was originally written for baritone horn and not euphonium, but they take it as their own as well..
My High School Winds Ensemble is playing this at Music for All this weekend in Indy. Of the 5 songs they're playing, this is the only version of any of them I found online that I like better than the one they're already playing.
Songs are sung, and pieces are played. Nobody played this "song" in their high school or college bands, because it isn't a song. Also, why is it that every single comment on every single piece of classical music is people anonymously bragging about playing the piece from the video? "MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BAND IS PLAYING MAHLER 5 THIS YEAR, BUT WE R NOT AS GUD AS CHICAGO SINFUNEE
+BarretDude ...Isn't it fun to be in the band? I still remember to this day many great things about band. I'm impressed with todays young musicians. They are dedicated to their band, as I'm sure you know. Best wishes on your band career.
@Mindfor2012 hell yeah, only of about a year now though. started learning my junior year, now a senior rocking 1st. originally a trombone player and still am ;D
@necromancerBX Yeah, we played Rolling Thunder 2 years ago in my high school band, also very challenging. I can't say that I've had the opportunity to play The Trombone King or any other level 5 pieces as I'm just graduating high school this year. Looking forward to playing even harder music in college and beyond!
This was one of the audition pieces, for the euphonium players, for the Univ of Michigan band under Revelli. If you couldn't play it, you weren't seated.
I played the tenor sax in my high school band and I'd swipe a treble clef baritone part frequently. I tried this march and went BACK to the tenor part....I just couldn't play it at this tempo.
Your high school band is better than many college bands I've heard. What school is it? Karl L. King (1891-1971) wrote such wicked euphonium parts because he was a great euphonium player. But in your photo, why does he have a trumpet sitting in front of him?
Could we all stop arguing about who's got the harder part? Euphonium, something out of the ordinary for you..Piccolos (like myself) a run or two. Everyone has their own difficulties with music, don't just think that because you play something that typically doesn't do that that you have the harder part.
Okay, but like, why does it sound perfectly okay at 0.75x speed, but then at full tempo, it was like, "hey, you wanna try something fun?" and then proceeded to add 50 beats to the tempo?
The 19 dislikes are from the parents of dead euphonium players.
Rat 796 #ratgang 😂🤣😂🤣😵
Karl King is sitting at his desk thinking up new ways to torture his musicians.
SpeedyNeutrino172 Must be the original Barnum & Bailey Band playing this. I can't think of any other band who could pull this off.
+rotunda57 True
ikr
Now, now - the word is "challenge", not "torture"! :-)
rotunda57 a high school band in korea
Karl was seriously f**king with the euphonium players!
but man it sounds sweet
Sparks flying out of the euphoniums' valves...
Omg ikr
We clarinet players also had "fun" in many of these grand ol' Karl King marches, too - but THIS IS the euphonium players' showcase! :-D
It IS mostly 2-valved work.
I don't know if this is in the comments yet, but Karl King wrote this, because his band's euphonium player said that the music that Karl writes wasn't hard enough. XD
+Arch Angel I just learned that today in band class
HE was the euphonium player. Himself. He wanted harder parts to play for himself.
I just hope that said euphonium/baritone player got to play this song in concert at least ONCE before the trombonists lynched him. Those slides must have been red-hot after a run through THIS garden.
if only the french horn players complained, then there'd at least be a march with an interesting horn part
He was a cornet player I thought?
I adore the first clarinet part. But even as a woodwind, I totally respect the amount of talent and practice the euphonium has to dedicate to this piece.
thank you lol :) we appreciate the respect!
I bet a middle school in Japan can play this smh

Just dropping in for that skillful Euph melody.
Rohed Matthew You play euphonium?
Rohed Matthew if so we are veeeeery under appreciated

I love the brass, I am a trombonist and this is great!
1:27 hmm, sounds like someone is gasping for help while their head's being forced underwater to death in the background...
Tommy Hoàng I imagine that’s what it’d feel like playing it
I still think the baritone/euph players had to go lay down for a while after this.
SpeedyNeutrino172 i play this in my band trust me its the worst
Trombone though
hard is fun
It’s so exhausting to practice
umm can i just say WOW!!! That is a GREAT job by the Euphonium player!!! We almost did this as a high school. I play Euphonium and only our 1st chair player could tackle this solo!! Love this song though!
I knew a guy at my high school who solo'ed the euphonium part. Best euphonium player in the mideastern region.
I can't tell if Karl King loves euphoniums, or hates them...
He was a eupher so, I'm pretty sure its both.
Keep in mind euphonium were kinda in a experimental stage in 1910. Things like double bells were around I don't think most Americans used compensating horns
Well I now feel insignificant
+Mallory Stevens ...It makes me feel the same way Mallory. You're not alone.
Wow first time hearing this march and that lower brass solo caught me off guard. Just wow. Good clarinet players aswell.
When I first saw this I thought I commented it
I think the baritone player had to be sedated after this.
This makes me think of ol' CW3 Leston C. Hickerson! Everything he conducted was at warp speed. RIP, sir!
flawless baritone player, impressive.
We play this at my school and the euphonium players want to die it’s so funny 😂
As a Euph player, this song scares the life out of me cause my director said we may play this in the spring for our High School graduation concert
it's funny how all the comments are about the euphonium player
love this song. Euphs all the way.
So umm can we talk about the fact that this is graded as a 3.5? Euphoniums not happy about that
anarchy!! brilliant....
well the best part about that is that it has the melody some parts but not hard stuff! It really is perfect.
Always my fave march
Ah yes, the first euphonium part to successfully cause wrist pain even when playing downtempo
Fun...the classic monster euphonium part! Keith
We are playing this song in our university's concert band. I'm a euphonium player and the euphonium part is sick! But it's an awesome song!
I met Karl King once when I was a kid. Big man, about 6' 5".
Y'all know that Karl King was a baritone horn player...and featured the eighth note counter-melody in that instrument in addition to the piccolo, flute, 1st clarinet, alto saxophone and alto clarinet? Lovin' it
i absolutely love this song, i play euphonium of course. =]
1:25
Could never play this CLEANLY in high school.
Hahahaha...this is the harderst march I've ever had to learn. That being said, I love this piece. Awesome bass clarinet part.
My High School Winds Ensemble is playing this at Music for All this weekend in Indy. Of the 5 songs they're playing, this is the only version of any of them I found online that I like better than the one they're already playing.
7 years later- my HS wind ensemble is playing this at MFA in Indy!
My band's playing this for festival this year :D
we're going full speed. its.... fun....
Songs are sung, and pieces are played. Nobody played this "song" in their high school or college bands, because it isn't a song. Never before have I wanted a valve trombone so badly.
my band played this, it took a while for the baritone (Mike) to play it this fast it was great
A euphonium playing this in middle school
Scott, if you’re seeing this, you need to get the end up to tempo
He definetly composed this because A euponium player was dating his daughter, and he wanted to make him sweat.
So wholesome
Technically, this can't be played by humans.
+SpeedyNeutrino172 my school's top band euphonium players can play this just as good at tempo
+SpeedyNeutrino172 my school's top band euphonium players can play this just as good at tempo

+SpeedyNeutrino172 thank you, I hope to be a band director later in life, but I'm only a junior
BarretDude How’s college?
@Mindfor2012 hell yeah, only of about a year now though. started learning my junior year, now a senior rocking 1st. originally a trombone player and still am ;D
Step right up folks, take you pick at some of the greatest melodies you've ever heard, prices are low, get 'em while ya can!
If you couldn't play it, you weren't seated.
imagine trying to march to this
Cleanest recording ever. What is the name of the band and conductor please?
Euphs! :D
The euphonium solo flows well on the fingers. It’s mostly valves 1 & 2. Enter valve 3 during/after the huge chromatic run. ✌️
I just think of it as mini scales and that sets my mind at ease, but you're right it's the slurring that's the taxing part.
That's a euphonium solo.
correction: piece. i love this piece
@necromancerBX Who is fate of the gods by? I'm trying to look for it because I want to hear it since I've seen a couple of comments about it.
I played the tenor sax in my high school band and I'd swipe a treble clef baritone part frequently. I tried this march and went BACK to the tenor part....I just couldn't play it at this tempo.
Yeah that one dislike was probably the person who couldn't play it.....sucks!
@Mindfor2012 correction, it is BC. No such thing as BA clef.
Around 2:06 I went crying to my flute teacher. #teampiccolo
Look it up on his wikipedia page! Baritone player!
Oh no! A woodwind has to do some runs! Yeah, how about the Euphonium? A bit harder to do runs than the Piccolo.
BEST COMMENT EVER!!! LAUGHING SO HARD!!!
He really was a euphonium/trombone player though....
The reason we can't stop arguing is because that would make too much sense.
Circus Music
Your high school band is better than many college bands I've heard. What school is it?
Karl L. King (1891-1971) wrote such wicked euphonium parts because he was a great euphonium player. But in your photo, why does he have a trumpet sitting in front of him?
No clue but my best guess is that he was working on a trumpet part and just needed to see how it sounded
Our head director is having our first band place this piece...
But it's much slower apparently..
I played Tuba on this lol interesting for us lol
@MysterySTForever Very clever..
Guess what instrument is super fun to play on this song?
Slide trombone.
Could we all stop arguing about who's got the harder part? Euphonium, something out of the ordinary for you..Piccolos (like myself) a run or two. Everyone has their own difficulties with music, don't just think that because you play something that typically doesn't do that that you have the harder part.
@Mindfor2012 hell yeah you know what's up!
Who plays this?what band?
Yeah I really enjoyed playing this. I think our conductor had us go 20 over the tempo.
Tempo de tear ass.
@StAnger134 just use a download it...
I'm an orchestra kid I can't relate
Band is more fun than orchestra but classical music is better than band music
Okay, but like, why does it sound perfectly okay at 0.75x speed, but then at full tempo, it was like, "hey, you wanna try something fun?" and then proceeded to add 50 beats to the tempo?
@CycloniteKiller hell yes euph players.
Depending on marches, I would conduct a decent march tempo (108 or 120bpm), if I was a band director
Runs are not always common with Woodwinds. The baritone saxophone rarely has any runs in any of our pieces.
@oogotriceoo I'm guessing more than one person...
nothing is hard, just a challenge.
Yeah I'm a sophomore playing 1st trombone on trombone king...frickin hard lol
Dear lord this song is hard on Trombone. Fun song though :)
who played this?
What arrangement is this?
Holy Moly....what's the tempo on this? Around 200?
@Mindfor2012 i know that too ;P i was being a smart ass. agreed it is BA.
EUPHONIUM IS BOSS
Maybe King wrote this for you to play!
my band director is trying to get me and 2 other people play it...0_o
does anyone even understand whats happening with the flutes at 2:00? its so fun but so difficult
Tremolos
1 person is jealous of the euphonium player during the trio.
I am playing tuba for this...help me
This is the one time I hated to be a trombone player.
