I LOVE THIS! I've recently found this track and cosmic empire from the 50th anniversary album. George Harrison truly was a gifted songwriter. Great job with the backing!
"Window, Window: 2003 was a shelved project originally targeted for the 'Brainwashed' release. This 1970 demo recording now has an updated backing featuring Dhani Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Ringo Starr. Official rerelease is slated for Feb. 25th 2009, George's birthday." Actually, no. It's just me (Walrusz) on two acoustics, two slide guitars, two electrics, drums, bass, piano, organ, strings and three backing vocals. And a great respect and admiration for The Quiet One.
Yesterday I didn't even know that this song existed, but today it's now one of my favorite George Harrison songs of all time. I can't thank you enough for your amazing work on this song! It's so important to have people like you so George's legacy can be preserved.
I’m so so happy I found this. This is unbelievably faithful to George’s sound. You should be the one working on each and every Beatles-related remastering project.
What a great song , George has about 10 of these that could have really Improved living in a material world. Widow window and sour milk sea acoustic version are at the top of my list
George"s voice is isolated in the mix (no instruments from the original session are attached) which gives it a cleaner sound. Also, the bare bones session from 1970 of voice and acoustic that Spector recorded that I got this from was done in a high end studio. I was also very careful to put little if any reverb or effects (other than compression) on his voice. I find alot of people who record like to play with the "toys" of effects and easily overdo it. Which in turn kinda dates it. IMO
Normally, I just walk away and turn my back on anybody who f..... with a Beatle song, but the backing you put on this reaches my highest expectations possible! PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!

The melody itself is silly, like George says, like a children's song you think you've heard before but are not sure, but with George's voice, cold and all, and the right musical backing, it's awesome. I also like the lyric, "I get the feeling it doesn't see me," because it could mean a bunch of different things. You did a great job here. I wish we could hear it with George on the electric and doing his own falsetto harmonies.
I found a stereo version of the demo: just acoustic on one side and vocal on the other. I knew then that I could lower or drop out George's guitar if necessary by separating the stereo tracks as 2 trax in my computer program. Those are my live drums and you can hear how I have to be careful to stay in time. All in all George was very co-operative! I avoided Phil Spector at all costs...
i can really imagine this tune on one of his 80's LP. it s a beautiful tune. a bit of a Jeff lynne production ideas here.. it really does the song justice !

@FrlghtWolf I agree with you. I think it's that quality that endears some of his work to fans. Being a fan of George Harrison I think is a very personal thing and NOT much of his stuff is for the masses, except for, like you said, 2 or 3 exceptions. Some of his albums I find almost unlistenable, except as curios. Being a Beatle, I don't think he always got the best advice in the studio. But when I like his stuff, I REALLY like it.
I have always wished that the Beatles had recorded this one properly during the Get Back sessions. You did a fantastic job! I would love to obtain a full quality copy of this.
They've published it on the official George Harrison channel, but with comments switched off. I agree, a lovely tune. And the lyrics show how funny George could be. Obviously, for the very same reason (a funny song) it didn't fit on ATMP.
So much good here. A lot of attention to detail. You got Ringos feel nicely. And Harrisons guitar. A lot of hard work evident. I'd probably tweak back the compression a good bit on this. Apart from, very well done!

I have 2 or 3 more songs from the same harrison session on a disc sitting beside my studio harddrive but haven't had the time to seriously check them out (I think Everybody Nobody is one of them). I play in a band (Charlie X...Google us!), record originals, and am trying to get into the radio jingle business! Thanks again for the kind words. There's some pretty good versions of "Now and Then" floating out there.
Very nice. How in the world, the other Beatles, (George included), could think this track was silly...after enduring Paul's, 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer', I will never understand. Or even 'Baby Your A Rich Man'. I am a huge Beatles fan...but those two tracks...I could do without. This one...is quite nice if you ask me. And you did an excellent job putting it together. Ok...I am done. Rant over. (Just irritates me how controlling John and Paul were, where George's work was concerned).
When he went to record "All.Things Must Pass", he had many great songs that we're not includes or recorded. The strange Thing Is that he did not record the best ones on 'Living in the Material World"

@@walrusz great. Honestly your versions have to be on Harrison albums lol. They're just how he would have done the songs I'm sure with Jeff Lynne had he worked on those songs further. You have the exact right arrangements he'd have likely gone for

Great piano and organ. It's strictly a matter of taste I realize, but the backing vocals I would have left out, because he didn't have such preferences during the making of the album this song was demoed for. However, really, who am I to say? You produced this nice piece, so you get to decide how to deal with it. :)
Window window was first recorded while George was in the Beatles During the get back sessions I think that's why he put the backing vocals reminiscent of the beatles times
