Sir Winston's jockey made a masterful cut coming down the stretch while Tacitus's jockey took the long way around. The difference in the race.
Yeah, the way he was whipping that horse was awesome!
Tacitus is a better horse with a not so good rider.........
Just a couple of lengths more and Tacitus would have won
It was down to the luck of the draw. Tacitus had no real choice but to stay wide all the way around.
They were both trained by Mark Casse and he was not going to lodge an inquiry against his own horse. LOL
Every year proves the true greatness of the greatest... Secretariat!
Secretariat 46 years ago. You do not know anything else besides him. And you do not even know BIG RED either.
@@bnegs521 I understand. Yes sir. I was only 13 when I watched him race. You're right. My bad. Please forgive me.
@@Tony-5000 Every time you watch a basketball highlight you cannot appreciate it can you? You compare it to MJ don't you? And what about a hockey highlight forget the fact the Blues won the cup last night NONE are as good a the great Gretzky! That was a great move by Sir Winston I appreciate that. Big Red's 2:24 is untouchable! That does not have to be touched for me to enjoy THIS race. Congrats to Rosario and SIR Winston!
@@bnegs521 I have never watched hockey or soccer! I stopped watching basketball after Bird and Magic retired and MJ made palming, carrying, and traveling legal, and definitely haven't seen a game since the Piston players attacked the fans! So I haven't watched a basketball game, pro or college, this century! I quit watching pro football when Colin Kaepernick and the players started kneeling for the flag (I'm an Army veteran). I watch college football and college baseball. You can attack me and hate me all you want if it makes you feel better about my admiration of a horse. Have at it sir.
@@Tony-5000 Only pansies would have a go at what you just said. I can respect that. I know how you feel. Watching the races and with every single TC year that passes us on by, makes Secretariat look more and more incredible. SECRETARIAT was God's horse.
That was an amazing move. Wow
Absolutely, very exciting to watch. The owners owe the jockey one big tip!
Omg what a move !! Amazing horse with an amazing man in the reigns. Go Sir Winston ....
Joel Rosario made an instinctive move typical of competitors looking to win. With long shots back in the mix, my interest is renewed.

This year’s Triple Crown was cursed.
oohhhhhhhhhhh
EmiMac20 Big fan of the Triple Crown since "73" and I agree this year was ruined So Much I totally forgot this race took place today and I completely missed it " disappointing year for sure" because I lost interest of what happened in the K. Derby and The Preakness to forget about the Belmont today !
Lisa Moreno Same. I missed it, too.
EmiMac20 all the excitement about the triple crown " was drained" by the time this race was to take place and no one cared about the Belmont today " that's a first for you and I also many others."
This year's triple crown was awesome.
I can't believe what I just saw, imagine being Jason Servis and seeing that
this just gets worse and worse
Not only that, but it did not take place on a bog of a track like the Derby DQ of MS, yet Tacitus was clearly knocked off stride when bumped by WOW after WOW was clearly cut off by Sir Winston. Rigged game!!! :-)
I agree! It's unbelievable... So NOW we're going to promote the standard "let them run" rules and not stir up unnecessary crap. AFTER making a complete joke of the Derby. Laughable.
@@theragingcajun1845 it's amateur hour...the people who watch 3 races a year.

The greatest was and still will be Secretariat 🏇 😍 But this was a nice move good one Sir Winston
Strangely, I was thinking of Secretariat while handicapping the race. Not his Belmont Stakes, but his Marlboro Cup against stablemate Riva Ridge. I Remember Eddie Maple and Ron Turcotte slapping Five as they crossed the finish line. And I looked at the then World record clocking of 1:45.4. When I saw Sir Winston Peter Pan closing kick in 1:46 and change, I thought this was really possible. And Joel doesn't fool around on big race days.
Just love Rosario, awesome jockey. Got a long shot for second last race and now this....

It's the Belmont. Longest race. Plenty of time to catch up.
Dream ride down the rail and unbelievable move to get the horse out in the clear
CARPE DIEM= SIEZE THE DAY!!
I thought most people say speed, or pace runner's, generally win the Belmont? Sir Winston was stalking.
Appropriately enough, Sir Winston won the Belmont Stakes 100 years after Sir Barton, the thoroughbred horse racing world's very first Triple Crown winner.
Y'mean because they both have the word "Sir" in there? Just a coincidence, right?
I researched this to satisfy my own curiosity, and unfortunately I couldn't find any conclusive evidence of this.
Not one of them will ever have the aura of greatness as did
Seabiscuit.
Seabiscuit came when the people needed him because of the Great Depression. Secretariat came when the people needed him because of Watergate. But Seabiscuit was no Secretariat.
@@Tony-5000 I admire Secretariat greatly,; and he was no Seabiscuit, who overcame unbelievable odds never faced before or since. Two completely different situations.
@@Tony-5000 Both Big Red and Little Red had the hearts of champions...and I still wonder about the amazing, tragedy of Ruffian.

Brilliant move by Rosario at the top of the stretch. Nice ride.
According to the announcers that was interference smh
@Clay Potter He regrets the attempted inside move for sure and a wide trip all the way around.
Joel Rosario is overrated.

In all 3!!
Yaaaaaas, that would be amazing!
Tacticus was much the best today! 5-6 Wide the whole race bumped by the two casse horses and still was coming on @ the end.
I've been watching him and he may peak at Breeders Cup! Nice horse and he deserves some recognition-gutsy!
Tacitus was good but I disagree on being the best , master fencer deserves a mention too. Widest of all and never switched leads and was still coming on at the end, he was impressive to even get that close, Japan got a runner, his time will come too
Tacitus was cheated out of the Belmont.
Why even mention “inquiry” or objections?!
That’s horse racing!
Listen to the words “pinched” “shifting” “angling”.
Thanks a lot Kentucky Derby, now every little move is scrutinized.
Thank you! There should be ZERO reason why everyone has to use a camera to replay every little second of the race and demand disqualifications when nothing happened. Horses bump into each other; it’s a horse, not a machine. The nfl was ruined this way and now it’s coming for horse racing.

Dang... poor War of Will got bumped again! It was even more evident this time.
EXCUSES EXCUSES
He is creating some of that contact again though.
War of will need a new rider
I spend 10 hours weekly at the OTB. Watched 1000s of races. It was a heck of a race and the jockey was amazing. There was absolutely no reason for an inquiry. I little bumping is normal!
Exactly, I don't understand people saying what happened in this race is the same as what happened in the Derby, they're two completely different situations.
Amazing job by jockey huh. You are so rights. In the derby he pushed that 🐎 far around the last turn. In this race it was just normal positioning. People just don't understand racing
At 2:32 Sir Winston cuts off War of Will. Where is the objection??
Both horses are trained by the same man.
He didn't practically run into him, unlike the Derby where the horse cut into War of Will so badly the WoW's front hoof actually went *between* the back hooves of Max Security.
Winner was too strong and needed a place to go.
Do we really need an objection for every single race now? The Kentucky derby DQ put a stain on horse racing and now everyone wants an objection when there’s no reason for one.
@@ms_scribbles ah, somebody who actually watched the replay closely!
As Sir Winston comes into streach he cuts off Spinoff and then move wider to brush against War of Will who in turn bumps Tacits. Sir Winstons actions deserved an inquiry yet none called....more damage here than in KD with the winner.
That wasnt enough. Also the trainer trainer the two horses that bumped. The Derby yes this one. No way! GREAT MOVE!!
WRONG.
Very poor statement
War of Will was clearly bumped by Tacitus, not by Sir Winston.
This jewel was ride by Joel Rosario on a ground-saving strategy all along.
PERFECT!
Tacitus paid the price because Irad Ortiz choose the long long...long way.
wrong; Sir Winston took War Of Will out
100% agree with you, most horse's just can't win the Belmont going 3-4 wide. But WOW definitely bumped Tactics, not the other way around. Sir Winston caused it, either way it didn't effect the outcome.
What a ride by Rosario.
great ride
It was an aggressive ride by Joel Rosario there was no interference at all. In the derby Maximum Security had the race won before the incident on the last turn and he would have won the race regardless.
Tacitus is a much stronger horse.. he was in a bad spot .. should’ve won
Agree, he was kept way too wide the whole race. He should've been brought closer to the rail.
@@OfficialMuffiin quit making excuses for tacitus I've been hearing in them pipe him up since before the Derby and he just ain't cutting it
@@kenhughes10 He came second in the Belmont after being taken wide the entire race, if he was ridden with more sense he would've of won it.
I am no expert, but that was just as bad as the derby and it was ok. I am referring to cutting off or interfering another horse.
That is because both horses involved were trained by the same man. What is the point of objecting?
It wasn't. There was no interference, as you can tell that none of the other horses had to be yanked up to prevent running into the back of the interfering horse.
@@ms_scribbles Probably you saw just where the stewards looked at. WofW was up the rear of MaxSecurity way before that. Stupid disqualification...and today WoW was thrown like a cheap used towel at 2:33 of the video...
It wasn't as bad, Derby shifted 4 lanes out and took 3 horses out of race
worse but they should not take em down war of will didn't have any thing left just like in the derby
I really wanted that lil' roan/grey horse, Tacitus, to win. A little disappointing that he didn't, but that's OK...he did great coming second, since he was always a little farther back, and on the outside in the whole race. He tried hard, it was a close race, and he still did super good in my opinion. Sir Winston did fine, too...but considering where Tacitus was positioned, I think he did the best, since he probably had a harder race to try and win than some of the others. :) That's all just my opinion, of course.
IMHO Tacitus is a much better horse than his performance indicates....But that's just me
Yep, we would have watched Secretariat blow this field away by 31 lengths too. And remember Secretariat was only galloping in that race and not in a full out run. The jockey claimed he never used the whip once.
I didn't know that was on yesterday... So thanks for things like you tube(incase we missed it).😇
No rain. No riderless horse. No winning disqualification.
Tacitus ran 2 miles and finished a closing second
2nd place is the first loser!
Maxium Security would have one this race by 6 lengths.
Secretariat would have won it by 20-24 lengths
Marco Deo No whips should be allowed.
Secretariats time still stands by 4 seconds at 2:24 . Greatest living athlete ever .
No one cares
@mac ... horse racing exists outside of the USA also and it's free of drugs ... The real greats don't need drugs ... Eclipse was so good they used to bet the distance not the result ... never lost a race just like the Great Frankel who never ever needed top gear

Perfect winner for the 75th anniversary of D-Day!
One of the reasons I bet the exacta on him
He would have stayed on the rail if he had room, but there was no space! If he wanted to win, he had to move out.
This was way worst than Maximum Security's DQ...
Master Fencer was actually, the only excitement on the track. Damm, he was coming down the stretch fast. The trainer and jock just need to get him making his move sooner.
Teresa Harris unfortunately he didn’t switch leads or level off, I had him and was rooting for hem. He by far was the best and widest of all
2:30 When Sir Winston was here I was like uh oh if that Peter Pan move is coming it is LIGHTS OUT!!! Rosario could not believe he was that close right here and Sir Winston had not unleashed his move yet! It is almost an Afleet Alex type move. I do not think SW has AA's tactical speed and I am not comparing him to AA but that move in his last two races reminds me of the great AA. ---Tacitus is a TRUE grinder no racing luck yet but I love him. Really tough horse! Love him!
War of Will is interfered again and yet no disqualification this time. I don't understand.
Same trainer.Still, the stewards should have had an inquiry.
@@rentslave Nuncio didn't want an inquiry. The fix was in. Look at the payout, too low unless a lot of bets were placed on long shot Sir Winston.
oof
@@rentslave Not the same owners, if an inquiry was warranted it would have happened.
War of will sucked
Pretty cool to see 3 different horses win all 3 races of the triple crown this year
War of Will bumps Tacitus and Sir Winston cuts off War of Will. Didn't we just have some long BS explanation about staying in your lane during the Derby? And they see no reason to call anything in the Belmont? What a tainted season. I hope Maximum Security blows them all away again in the Haskell July 20th. He's running June 16th in the Pegasus Stakes to prep for it.
Mmhmmm. I saw that as well.
Glad someone else noticed that. They should have at least looked at it.
War of will was thrown off balance and your can his rhythm change as soon as he bumps tacitus and is pinched between them.
I guess people whined and whined and whined so much that now they have to think twice about inquiries in big races.
The greatest triple crown winner right here.
Yes, Secretariat.
He changed lanes.
I love this kind of sport

So who thinks that is Maximum Security did what Sir Winston did to WOW there would have been a protest by Casse? Three races and WOW was in controversy in all 3. The Derby we all know, but guess who was out of control and needlessly ran out of his lane down the stretch? then be bumps Tacitus and cost him the Belmont. Yes haters, Tacitus was knocked off his stride, it was only at about 2:45 in the above vid that Tacitus hits stride again and blows by them.
Finally someone else who gets it.. Tacitus got screwed..
46 years later and no horse has come close to the Great secretariats time of 2:24 in Belmont. I am almost 54 now and I highly doubt we will see another once in a century superhorse like Secretariat in my lifetime .....the 1973 Belmont was run in 90 degree heat too and big red got faster as the race went along
Secretariat got faster as the race went on in the Kentucky Derby, not the Belmont. 2015 TC winner American Pharoah ran the last 1/4 mile of the Belmont faster than Secretariat.

I dont know if the Sir Winstons jockey did understand what he did, i think it was unconsciously but that was perfection!! every single move was important to win this race, in the final turn the jockey became the horse, that was fun to watch.
That merits more of an objection than the Kentucky Derby
Who was that horse in red finishing like a train on the outside? another half furlong and he quite possibly would have won, the jockey on Tacitus didn't have much of a clue what he was doing to be honest, whip in the wrong hand half giving up until he realised he still had plenty of horse under him and was staying on well at the end
Master Fencer and I'm not quite sure why he didn't kick in sooner. I feel like if he had started his stretch run a tiny bit earlier, he would have got there. He was definitely the horse with the most gas left in the tank.
@@Nicole-qc5dh I totally agree that he was flying at the end more than any other horse in the race, maybe the jockey was following orders by the trainer to conserve his energy for one big run at the end of the race (doubtful stayer maybe?)

Decently clean race not bad compared to the previous two legs of this years triple crown.
Exactly. Not enough
Sir winston bumped a horse to get to the front, why not disqualify him.
There definitely should have been an inquiry in this race!!!
Because they didn't want anymore bad publicity..
Also the fact that sir Winston is trained by casse and sir Winston interfered another casse runner, ironically Motts horse would have been placed the winner
Mad you did not win bo ho
Venia tocando corneta Joel Rosario desde el giro del ultimo codo. Excelente conduccion.
That horse was all over the place.
If Borel was riding Tacitus he would won this race by more than 5. He would never raced this horse 5 and 6 wide and lose more than 10 lengths like the stupidity that Ortiz did.
Not as long as his records stand, and horse racing exists!
War of Will was not running this race as a winner. He just cant get the distance.. BUT it did not help that Sir Winston cut him off mid stretch, costing him a better placing. Just like how Maximum Security cut off another horse that didnt even place or show signs of winning anyways but still got DQ..... if you're gonna hold the standards of racing that harshly, at least do it all the time for every horse. 🤷♀️
