On top of the rough start, Nest got kind of boxed in / cut off at the top of the stretch and had to go around a few horses. I'll bet she either would have won or the margin would have been slim if she wouldn't have been caught behind and had to go around. Straight up the rail may have put her in first.

Considering that she had a place on the rail when running third, then the jockey had her bear to the outside, losing ground, before space opened up on the rail as it usually does on the turn, she did very well indeed. She probably wouldn't have won anyway had she taken advantage of the opening on the rail, but it would've been a lot closer.

The grade 1 Alabama, on 8/20/22 [also over Secret Oath]. And, managed to win against older fillies in the Beldame S. on 10/9/22. All in a row, might I add.) she would've beaten Mo Donegal if she had gotten a better start. He's already retired, four wins, one fifth, and two thirds. She's still going, and heading toward the Breeders Cup Distaff (hoping for four in a row.) Never got anything worse than third.

My comment is not to belittle the horses that raced in the triple crown, it is to identify the greatness of Secretariat. He remains undefeated in any triple crown race for 49 years.

Her start didn’t hinder her placing, bc she was still able to settle in third on the rail before the first turn. What hurt her chances is not getting a hole at the top of the stretch and having to go wide instead, losing about 2-3 lengths in the process

@@asturiasceltic3183 Sounds like you're the one not in horse rescue or racing. 70%+ of horses slaughtered are AQHA, according to the HSUS. Racehorses are microchipped and tracked throughout their life spans, we also have TAA which keeps horses out of slaughter. The TAA is funded through races, auctions, breedings, etc
More than $200 million dollars have been contributed to thoroughbred aftercare since it started.

Leon held up rich strike on inside rail after the gates he let the brown and dark horse cut him off he should have pressured richstrike in that excact moment would had put richstrike in a good position he tried to race him like at churchill downs knowing this track alot more heavier the horse has a lot of potential Leon messed up

catalytic rans very well in his first stake appearance. he is a well-bred horse with a good balance of speed and stamina. he got the number 5 post in the derby which it is a very good post historically. a very live long shot that worth the bet.

My advice to any owner/trainer winning future Kentucky Derbies, please give your 3 year old the opportunity to also win the Preakness Stakes, because, as was demonstrated this year, the Belmont Stakes is not guaranteed. It's not guaranteed because 3 year old horses are always improving.

Neither is winning the Preakness 😂 Nothing in horse racing is guaranteed. They have explained countless times why they didn’t run in the Preakness, it was NEVER the plan to run in the Preakness, despite the fact Rich Strike won. The plan was always to skip the Preakness and wait until the Belmont. Eric Reed explained in an interview that he works his horses every 10 days, not every 7 days like most trainers, and he wasn’t about to change his horse’s routine just to make the Preakness. He’s doing what’s right by his horse and we should respect that

Just like in the Oaks, Nest with no running room until after entering the stretch. Mo Donegal got the jump on her. That and the start could have cost her the race if not a much closer second.

The two leaders converged to delay Nest's final rush at the top of the straight, but Mo Donegal would still have won, because Irad Ortiz actually eased down a little before the finish line.
