I like your approach to critique. I like that you say “this is how I would do it” and “this is how I envision it” you don’t tell someone that that’s how it should be done, just how you would approach it, and how it reads to you. Kind of just running with the blueprint they gave you and expanding on it in a technical way.
thank you so much jackie thats my art ! 😭 i also used a canvas texture png and put it on a multiply layer to give it that traditional texture vs digital !
Thank you so much for touching up my work! I love the way you pushed my wicked witch character with the silhouette and shape exaggerations😊 Also very excited for the upcoming Japan trip
I think a middle ground between her design and the og would have gone the hardest. I like how she added structure to the shape of the woman's face, but I wish it had been kept with as little detail.
Agreed! I do question if that was fully OPs intention, though as to _me_ it almost didnt seem stylized enough for that to be the intentional vibe. Also, because they submitted their art to be "fixed" by her, I think it is fair to assume they would want to go a bit more realistic than what they had? But yeah, the vibes of that piece were already very nice :'D
This is the perfect type of critique. You are not being rude or mean, you are very kind and giving great advice from your expertise! Love watching these vids :D
Imagine the other way around. A man sayin she shouldn’t have such a big chest at that age. Everyone is individual. I don’t like those comparisons but here it kinda fits…
Yeah I actually don't agree with her here. I've seen guys with wispy thin hair who are starting to bald in their early 20s and I thought that was maybe what the artist was going for in that piece. Adding all the extra hair was unnecessary imo.
@@giftofthewild6665 the guy looks like he's bolding. If it was intentional, I'm sure the original author wouldn't be upset over this correction, and would only take into consideration other tips. However, if the character is not supposed to be balding, then it's a valid critique. I once met a young artist who made a fanart of someone else's OC and made her entirely bold just because they didn't know how to draw hair. Nothing wrong with bold women, sure, but if you're making all your characters bold or balding just because you can't draw hair, then it's a skill issue you should strive to fix
Also it could just be big forehead. I imagine someone could submit their self portrait and she would say it's wrong coz they don't have conventionally pretty features lol
Same. On its own, it's really good, but as I say to myself and other artists, we're only as good as we allow ourselves to be because we can always improve on "perfection." (No such thing, as I say)
This series is so so helpful! As an intermediate artist I still have much to learn fundamentally and technique wise an the way you go in and not only adjust the drawing it’s clear you’re sharing helpful knowledge on top of it ☺️ thank you
nah, I think you did a very good, respectful change is the last one! it still has the same feel and style, but its pushed much more. If I were the artist, I would love that.
I love these videos! Even though it is not my art, it helps me think differently while I'm drawing, I mostly absorb more of the character design tips, because that's what I'm really focusing on improving right know, but it's really nice to see anatomy tips as well. I enjoy a lot watching these videos and it made me happy that this one is longer! Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
I looove these videos but I feel like most of the anatomical corrections you give only apply to conventionally pretty and skinny characters I would love to see a video focused on anatomical corrections or tips for different body types more on the realistic side rather than cartoon style. Anyways love the video❤❤❤
What part exactly of the tips you think applies to conventionally attractive or skinny characters? It was literally advice on lighting, contrast, composition/c. Design and basic anatomy. You can apply it to every face and every body. Just because the piece looks better than before, it doesnt mean it's conventionally attractive
@@michaillazarou when she corrects the "anatomy" of the characters. I'm not referring to the more cartoon stylized correction I'm referring to when she corrects the "anatomy" of a realistic portrait or illustration.
@@claudiaamengualmateo6989 i’m sorry, i get what you’re trying to say, but can i have a specific example from the video? like a comment she makes or a specific art piece you think was anatomically fine before
I dont even draw but your videos are just so nice, you give great specific advice which are very clear to understand and make perfect sense, thank you!!
12:56, my brother in christ, I'm 19 and that guy in the drawing (before you fixed the hairline) has a way better hairline than I do 😭. My forehead is the size of France, omg
not so sure how i feel about the last one, but i really liked the others!! its insane how much of a difference lighting makes to the overall piece, especially for the second one!! i found it very interesting how you added purple tones into the grey skin, normally i use purple for shading but you used it for the skin tones itself, i might have to try that!
I love how she doesn't "correct"(Is that how you tell it? Sorry, english is not my first languaje.) the art style of the person like how mostly Art teacher's would do. She just show how she would do the details of the art, and not the entire piece. Its honestly so lovely.❤
Hey Jackie! Love your content. I saw your Japan mentoring trip a few days ago and I'm a young artist going into the design/art business in just one year. Unfortunately it was not fitting for me to join this year, but if you're doing it in the future I'd love to go! Are you planning to do any more of these trips in the future?
12:54 as someone with a big friggin forehead, this hurt my soul lol Noo jk, the video was amazing!! I think i learned something, ans as someone that doesnt draw that much its really cool to learn about lighting/anatomy once in a while And besides that, i just really love "fixing art videos"
Hey, is there any way for me to submit some if my art for you to critique? I need better advice because im still getting used to drawing electronically, and incould really use some guidance on some techniques, and such.
I also drew an art and how can I submit my art so you can fix it, I also need guidance, I am looking forward to learn and improv my skills. Please respond it’s my dream.
this is the first video of hers ive seen and i love her aproach but does she ever just fix the art techniques without making the character more conventionally attractive ?:)
love the first one but i’m sad you got rid of her tummy and not perky boobs, feels like a projection of your body image ideals and i think you could have achieved a posture adjustment without doing that
Personally I like the 2nd one you worked on, though it’s a bit too light. Just seemed the original was based at night. The problem I have the most is that you change the vibes on the first and third. Like the angle on the lady loses the passion, instead of her head thrown up and to the side, she is then just in side profile, and changing the physique that can be found in the world to the more standard comic boy physique. Beautiful edit on the guy in the red shirt but you really seem to prefer western standards. lol the way you got the witch and so ran with her 😂 what if she was more formal? What if she liked more simple designs? lol more like they’re distant cousins with the original, completely different series in different styles 😂 awesome witch but first one belonged in samurai jack and the other in a much more modern series. Fun though. The last was cool thought again different styles completely 😅
What patreon subscription do we need to have our art evaluated? I really want to see my art on one of these but I don’t have enough money for the 70$ subscription…
Jackie's art critique series is the 1st on I've seen that doesn't feel gross. She's a professional artist who is critiquing based on technique, and because of that she leaves the art in the same style as the original artist's. Additionally, the language used is always very kind and focused on personal preference (i.e. This is how I envision it). So many of the artists who do these kinds of series just remake people's art in their own style, and make fun of the art to their audience. That doesn't help people learn, that doesn't help them build fundamental technical skills--it just makes them feel bad.
so got here from a short, was totally ready to go off on the "did these people ask for you to fix there art" mode then saw beginning of video....now my righteous anger is deflated....now what do I do? well cool video, might as well leave some comment for that youtube engagement. um... I think it's funny how in the last piece you touched up everything- except the frog
all hail the immortal frog who escaped Jackies clutches/j
the frog had no notes
Hes perfect
The frog is a masterpiece
Why fix what’s already perfect?
