I saw them in 2009 and 2010 when they toured their "The Incident" LP and it was absolutely BETTER live than the recording! PT is the best band that ever was
This is practically the best live rock music performance ever. I wonder if the people in audience realized it. Even their published live performances aren't this good. This is truly amazing.
Hey guys this song is completely on alcoholism...and arguments due to sore words after getting drunk Russia on ice here is another name for vodka... He says ''Russia on ice is burning a hole''....hole is a metaphor for throat.. He says vodka is making his throat say these sore words...but he can do anything... "can't stop myself drinking, can't stop being me" He tries to be someone so that that these fights get over but is not able to...that's why he cant stop drinking....
I don't know why, but this was the first Porcupine Tree song that blew my mind. Before this, I only knew their most popular songs and none really appealed to me, until I heard Russia On Ice. Now I saw every concert and interview one can possibly find and I'm a fan.
I casually stumble upon to hear this song(these haunting meditating sounds and vocals are mind boggling and relaxing) when I go to my hometown during holidays and casually listen in the monotony of night it sets some amazing addictive neural paths in my brain to an extent that I have to listen to it from time to time without forcing.
People compare PT to Pink Floyd, but I think PT has set a new standard; they have surpassed PF in just the sheer number of songs, all different from each other, BTW, that blow my mind!!
You think I deserve this, You said I was stupid, All my thoughts are like coal, But Russia on ice is burning a hole, Can't stop myself drinking, Can't stop being me, If I call will you come and will you save me? I see the whole thing come down, I burn it to the ground, Well what the hell did you say?You said you hate me this way, It's just a matter of time, A drop in the ocean, A significant motion, Nothing melts in this cold, But Russia on ice is burning a hole, I see the whole thing come down, I burn it to the ground, Well what the hell did you say? You said you hate me this way, It's just a matter of time...
I feels o grateful that I have been listening to musicians like Steve Wilson,Thom Yorke, david gilmour ,steve vai and others..And I feel sorry for people who praise justin beiber....So sad that steve Wilson is so underrated
@@kida4313 the difference is that you literally cannot compare Gilmour and Wilson to Bieber. I know music is subjective and people will like what they like. I stand by the fact that there isn't such thing as 'bad' music. However, the fact that Steven wrote nearly everything for this band and then produced countless more projects, masters, mixes, side projects, etc. I just don't think you actually can compare the two. Steven is just light-years better than bieber
So did Chris Maitland do the amazing backing vocals on that stunning chorus?? Omg. You know, i thought he was underrated, but now i'm sure. I like Gavin, but to be "better" you don´t need to do something technically complex or doing solos all the time. It´s like to say a bassist from a funk rock band is the best just because he does solos or slapping.
I agree. Gavin is one of the best drummer in the world but Maitland had a unique touch with PT. To me it feels like he let more space for the other members.
Out of scale where exactly? You know this was recorded on an old VHS tape you could be hearing some distortion from that but im jus not sure what part is out of scale that you're talkin about
@@ameemjaffri2115 his singing used to be quite weak, and still is not the strongest, but he has improved a lot. especially through the 2000s he was always improving his singing technique
I was there!!
Janne Swearengen Lucky You
Wow I am so jealous
I am a fan of you too.
Me three! :-)
I wish I was too
It is very unique that this band has the ability to sound better live , than their actual recordings. Im speechless 😦

So wild its a crazy time to be alive
Very few bands can pull this off, I'd say Coldplay is the other.

Colin is so underappreciated.
Locke I agree 100%
I think he's one of the best bassists out there
Bass is the heart of songs and Colin proved.
Collin when he smiles playing it's like... Best beer buddy right there haha

This is truly amazing.
Those Bass Harmonics at around 7:35 are so subtly dope.
Chris Maitland is one of Prog Rocks most underrated drummers
got that right
Amazing and powerful song about alcoholism that is often overlooked.
Wtf are you talking about.?
This is not about alcoholism.
It's all about loneliness.
read the lyrics again.
+Güneş Seyis It's about a post-break up. It's obviously about depression and loneliness, but alcoholism is part of the song.
Wow.. that's makes sense now..
Wow, how did a youtube comment section turn so civil? :D

I recently read an interview in which SW said that this was one of his least favorite songs. it's one of my favorites
same here
it's quite amazing!
No wonder SW now only does popular mainstream pop crap. He's changed a lot in a decade of shitty music. But I still come back to his masterpieces.
I’m 72. Why does this take me right back to the late 60’s early 70’s and the progressive bands of that time?
Porcupine Tree is the BEST band I have ever heard LIVE

Gavin Harrison is the man, but Chris Maitland is super underrated in my opinion
best Chris Maitland performance on You Tube!!!!
Just love Steven's guitar playing
PT's Stairway to Heaven
PT's Starless
PT's RUSSIA ON ICE .
@Sagar Das 🤘🤘

Best outro ever
best band on planet earth :-)
Amazing vocals.. amazing guitar riffs and solos..
That's the way.!! the soul of porcupine tree.!
Man this song never gets old.
Maitland still managed to live up to Steven's expectation :D truly a genius in his own skin :D
One of my favourite Porcupine tree song! Thanks for uploading dude!
God knows how I feel, it's beyond words
This is pure dope to me , helps me thru' the day
My first PT show. Thanks for the upload.
Those Drums 😳 10:26
Underrated AF. The whole composition is just fking amazing.
Also why dont we have high def PT videos like other bands?! 😔
Epic songwriting.......not enough bands aspire to this....

My favourite 😭
That is truly amazing performance. I've been looking all over for this music performed on live stage. Thanks Diego.

I think of all the background singers hes had throughout his career, Chris Maitland is the best sounding one live.
esta banda es muy aspera severo viaje desde en medio de los andes veo a rusia on ice

I hear a little or a lot of Hey you by Pink floyd on this song!
I think they are very Pink Floyd influenced in a lot of their songs but Hey its good!

Muy bueno el cover ! Y el video esta increíble , que utilizaste para grabar el video ? Esta muy bueno
"Rusher Raw Nice"? ;-)
The saddest thing about this song is that Gavin never got to play it live.
Didn't he play it live on Octane Twisted? Unless you mean the heavy part, then IDK because they replaced it with a section from Anesthetize instead
2011, why isn't it stereo ??? :-(((
