- A complete playthrough of Konami's 1995 Super Nintendo based re-envisioning of the classic PC Engine Duo Castlevania game (Rondo no Chi), Castlevania: Dracula X.
I get the best ending in this playthrough, rescuing both girls on the way to Dracula.

I know that walk, I've walked that walk, Richter walks like someone whose determined to return an item at walmart
Nah xD It's more of a "I'm gonna kick your ass" walk.
@@somacruz7759 he's going to Walmart to speak to the manager
@@SomeGuyandanAmbulance 😂
Soma Cruz And the manager is Simon Belmont.
@@ryancentnarowicz xD
15:40 Richter is like: Wait, I just beat it?
I think the key also does massive damage if you use it to strike your enemies, much more so than Belmont’s usual subs.
😄
I like the hand drawn look of the graphics.
My fav graphics in a Castlevania game
Dracula X has a manga art style while Rondo of Blood has a anime art style
I agree, super bright and colorful. So pleasing to the eyes
Me too
Everytime when i listen to the music to the beginning part of the first level, i keep imagining myself I'm in the game because i love that music so much.
18:48 Basically...
_"Thank you, Mario! But our princess is in another castle!"_
23:00 _Mi amor!_ ...Okay bye.
" Bruh !"
1:38 In Castlevania parlance, "...once and for all" means once in every 100 years.
In the Japanese version, much like Rondo, when the Grim Reaper is defeated, his own scythe decapitates him, something censored in western versions of the game.
It's in tact uncensored actually in the Wii version of "Rondo of Blood."
BrianAlfonzzi It's also in the castlevania requiem collection on PS4 too! Which has rondo of blood and symphony of the night together.
Beau Walker, I have that, it is the Japanese version, so it should be uncensored.
Brian Cuevas, I have that PSP collection, it is straight code of the Japanese game, so yes it is uncensored. Only the western SNES game, shown here, is censored.
The problem with this game is that a big part of its difficulty relies too much on pitfalls. Not only you have to do a lot of hard jumps, but at the same time you have to deal with enemies trying to push you to fall. Also, Richter doesn't bring anything new to the table, he is too slow and very limited which is a huge step back compared to the excellent controls in Super Castlevania IV.
Other than that, I still like the game a lot. It has some amazing and colorful visuals and the soundtrack is top notch.
Richter can use magic...that's something HUGE that has never been done by a Belmont before
@@marcwilliams1942 You lost me there, are you referring to the "item crash"?
@@Control-Max Richter brings somthing "new to the table"
@@marcwilliams1942 OK... but what is that? Other than the Item crash, he doesn't do anything new.
He backflips
Let's agree that the intro stage had the best theme of the game and even better than the one in Rondo of Blood
I love the SNES soundchip, but I gotta disagree with you on that one
SNES soundchip did a very respectable job with this game, considering it's on a cart, and Rondo on a CD, you can't hope to replicate something with much more storage space on a cart with so little storage space. The soundtrack on the SNES version is still quite strong.
Nah i prefer rondo of blood it sounds better than SNES
The best thing about the SNES soundtrack is that (unlike Rondo of Blood) it loops, rather than ending and restarting. The Rondo soundtrack is still superior.
I love these sound effects
Were it not for the pits at final boss, this game would be a gem.
The graphics are gorgeous, and the soundtrack is great. The ultimate problem is that the level design and game play is lazy and pedestrian, compared to the likes of Super Castlevania IV, Rondo of Blood, and Bloodlines.
Not to mention, this game doesn't even compare to its PC Engine counterpart, which is vastly superior.
@@MatthewTheWolf2029 I get what you're saying, but it should be better. It was CD based on a whole additional add on for the PC Engine.
@@MrVan77 The Pc Engine had an 8 bit processor while the SNES had 16bit. The latter hardware was superior in almost every way, barring the CD Add on. The inferior hardware argument also doesn’t take into account the multiple games released on the SNES, NES, Mega Drive and gameboy that are superior to Dracula X. (Cv1, Akumajo Densetsu, Belmont’s Revenge, SCvIV, Bloodlines)
@@Multienderguy37 What does the processor have to do with anything???
@@TurboXray The previous commentator said that Rondo should be better than Dracula XX because of the CD addon. I contested that the SNES hardware is better in every way when not considered the CD addon. You can see the effects of the superior processor when comparing an average SNES and an average PC Engine game. (Chrono Trigger and the YS collection for example.)
This game has a much cooler title in Europe :)
Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss
Eh. . . . No. Also, people would confuse that title with the Nic Cage movie lol.
@@Noname15514 xD
@@Noname15514 YOU HAVE TO DO IT! OR I'LL FIRE YOU OvO
Sounds too romantic for a Castlevania title.
It just works
Fuckin masterpiece Castlevania sequels
Great music, Great levels, Great adventures, Great childhood !
Belmont is one die hard family.Tough guys). My favorite Castlevania game is Simon's Quest. It's music stucked in my brain for forever .
It needs a N64 style remake ASAP
THE SOUND IS AWESOME
never played this, but i like the feature of being able to re-pick up a weapon that you dropped in case you picked up a new weapon by mistake.
Jumping off stairs, the back flip and no time limit are pretty cool too. Also the sound affects, background details and soundtrack are great as well. It’s definitely a quality game unlike many UA-camrs who think they know it all like to say. Probably because they are lazy, shitty gamers unwilling to put the amount of time and practice needed to beat the game. Because it’s hard as all bloody hell
@@joshbrekke6374 People bash on this game because they always compare it to Rondo of Blood.
Yes, this game is inferior to Rondo of Blood but it's a different game, not a simple port.
And yeah it's hard as fuck but not for the right reasons. Thats pretty much my only (big) complaint about it.
We can appreciate how this and SoTN have a really consistent graphics between games
The first Castlevania game i ever played and it was fun!
Awesome playthrough, Alex!
The original PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 version of this game is better in my opinion.
They are basically two different games, the only things they seem to share in common are the sprites, otherwise they don't share much in common (it's why some refer to this game as Dracula XX as it is a retelling of the same story, with less maidens to rescue, and an unplayable Maria. Not having little Maria to wrecking ball her way through the game does take away some of the enjoyment of this game here.). There was no way Konami was fitting a CD game onto a cart, so they had to heavily improvise.
That bass on the first level is so damn good
Cerberus is a Jaguar now?
It's how it self identifies. We live in strange times where this is now normal.
Even though it's an arguably worse version I always liked the background art of Dracula X more than Rondo of blood.
It's Because rondo of blood was referencing older castlevania games with worse graphics
I think the game engineers and developers had something good going on for this game. .....but some big fish boss at Konami tho, probably walked in on them and said: “You all need to finish this game, and get it out into the market before Christmas!!! ....Aaaahh!!!! I don’t wanna hear it!!!! Just finish it and get it out ASAP!!”
You can see where this was going before you fight Cerebrus. The music and background color changed into a darker tone.
I think the developers had a plan to make pre-boss rooms where you got subs, hearts, and wall meat; just like Dracula X Rondo of Blood. The character design, character animation, and the game controls still needed work.
Look at the way Belmont walked here. 🤣
Richter is badass! Love all of his crash items and especially the vampire killer whip
There are many gaming franchises that debuted in the 8-bit era that deserve to make a comeback in this current generation of consoles (PS4, Xbox One). Castlevania is one of the main ones on that list IMO. The fact that a brand-new game in the series hasn't been made since the PS2(!) is mind-boggling to me. Anybody agree with me?
There were two on the PS3/360/PC, the Lords of Shadow games, that are both pretty good. The DS games are the throwback games. They're very good, if you haven't played them yet you should give them a go. They work fine in emulators.
100% agree
@@NintendoCompleteMirror of Fate is also pretty good imo
The SNES absolutely has the best version of Richter's theme! 😎
Then you never played de original game: rondo of blood
Noooope
ua-cam.com/video/vlayiIBH75o/v-deo.html
Nope. The original PC Engine version of Richter’s theme is better. It takes advantage of the CD-Rom capabilities of the PC Engine CD-ROM and has cutscenes with voice acting.
agreed
No, it's not.
the music is great!
I remember first time see Dracula X on snes emu on pc. First level, backround town in fire, 16 bit beauty graphic and swan singing for snes. 16 bit pure classic and this music.
This is a great Castlevania. The only complaints I have about it are: Richter is slow as hell, the ship doesn’t do enough damage to bosses, and Richter has no goddamn invincibility frames after getting hit!
@Uniroyal Mish yep
nah i think the damage is fine unlike super C 4 where you can nuke bosses for the most part. imo richter is faster than simon because of the fact that you can make good use of the back flip in replays and jumping of stairs is amazing. if this wasnt a pitfall mania with enemies popping up outta nowhere (though you can predict those) this would an amazing title
Richter's walking animation is faster than Rondo, yet he moves slower. What god damn sense does that make? Also, no playable Maria? Man they fucked up this game hard.
No i-frames? That's an odd choice.
11:18 *Richter uses his special attack* *"The most epic part of Bloody Tears starts playing"* A H H H I C O M E
In Simon's Quest the last two levels you visit before the dracula castle are a ruined town that only has 1 person in it, and a crumbling bridge that is fragmented, maybe Richter is visiting the same castle here?
dude, this is so hard but so hard that the cross necklace should be a sub-weapon instead of a one-use weapon
Thanks for rescuing me!
Proceeds to leave kid in cave
This would be the only Nintendo experience for Richter Belmont before his breakthrough in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 23 years later.
32:00 For me, the best final boss.
I remember playing this when i was younger and the second boss being a werewolf maybe it was a different game
Awesome game! Great!
Good game and good soundtrack. Nice video of gameplay.
Graphically this game looks amazing! 😯, music sounds really good too. The level design is good
Actually, only the first level looks amazing (tile style and that translucent flame layer). The rest of the game is just average looking.
I like this soundtrack. Excelent!
the soundtrack is amazing
Konami missed the chance of putting this game into the Castlevania Anniversary Collection along the other 8 and 16 bit games, same with Legends in GBC.
They just came out with the advance collection trailer and its the last game in it 👍🏼
@@CrazyOne1 Yeah, I'll be darned. Kinda weird it putting into a Gameboy Advance centric collection, but I take it.
Transylvania has some terrible bridges
ayuda!! alguien sabes cual es la version menos lenta o mas fluida de este castlevania?? la japonesa, usa, europea??
This game looks kinda cool. Great graphics. Richter looks like he handles kinda funny though.
Amzing Sound !
A great game in its own right, too bad people always want to compare it to Rondo.
chuckobscure
Could you blame them?
It’s supposed to be a reimagined version of it for the snes since the hardware was different.
Wasn't it kinda a remake, but with completely different levels, and such? Both games even star Richter Belmont, and have similar enemies. (So happy he & Simon are in Smash Bros. Ultimate.)
I'd compare it to Super Castlevania IV. Also on SNES, it much better balanced difficulty along with superior controls. 😎
@@gjtrue super castlevania 4 is way better than this bland castlevania
can’t blame us, just finished Rondo first time last week and just watched this now, and wow this looks like a two pack of ass compared to the original
Love this game
Fantástico! Jogo e a trilha sonora ! Nostalgia!
Taking the original game's already excellent score and FULLY utilizing that phenomenal SNES sound chip... What a freaking SHOWCASE. 🤯
Between this, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, and DKC2, 1995 truly proved once and for all who the SOUNDTRACK KING was. 😎
Yeah, the PC Engine CD lol. The SNES chip does do a fine job though.
@@joeyjo-joshabadu9636 The fact the SNES could even BEGIN to replicate, much less improve upon a CD quality soundtrack... 🤯
@@KrimsonKracker Sure, but doesn't make it KING haha. The CD track is king.
@@TurboXray I implied the SNES as a whole was the "king" of soundtracks during that era.
1995 was great for SNES music. Cant forget Mega Man 7, Killer Instinct, Tales of Phantasia and Seiken Densetsu 3 (later released as Trials of Mana).
I like this game. It has its charm. One more great gameplay.
I remember being 7 years old. No job or anything like that. Every day was the same back then. I got my beard shaved at the barber had 2 six packs of strong black beer some fit women and when the sun started dying I did a no hit run of Castlevania Draucla X to relax before sleeping... ah ye the glory days.
Why does that Cerberus roar like a jaguar, when it's a three-headed dog...
Love the soundtrack
I've always liked this game, but never really play it due to Rondo.
Whoa you are blitzing through this!
How can the last level be called Castle Keep when you can clearly see castlevania in the background at the start of the level?
This game is stunning, do a side by side with Rondo and it easily knocks the socks off it.
Some look better than most but Rondo of blood definitely had the advantage
Beautyful Graphics, good SFX and Music - but this Game is monotone and to short... Super Castlevania 4 has much more Content!
Agreed. It was an okay game in its own, but it's gameplay never measured up to the Castlevania name the way 4, Bloodlines, and Rondo did.
are there different difficulties in this game and which is this?
Nope
I'll never understand why this game gets shit on so much. It's a perfectly fantastic Castlevania game. I know people like to claim Rondo of Blood is one of the best 2D CV games ever, and this is more or less a port of that game, but the levels are all rearranged, and there are several key differences that make this its own game. Maybe Rondo is a better game (it probably is), but this is still a fine and fun CV game. Like it for what it is instead of disliking it for what it's not.
I never got it either. Its graphically much more in line with mainline castlevania then IV. I think it blows IV out of the water graphically. And IV was pretty impressive for an early SFC game. Music is pretty good too. That its a sort of port always will always mean that it will be compared to the original and Rondo was certainly a masterpiece of classic castlevania.
That's what I always felt and said about Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. "Like it for what it is instead of disliking it for what it's not."
I dont get it too, it's a damn good game.
My ONLY complaint about it is the level design, it can be downright atrocious at times
If the TurboGraFX-16 did not fail in the US and Europe, they will all have the original Castlevania Rondo of Blood.
The PSP has a 3D version of Rondo of blood and you could also unlock and play the original PC engine version of Rondo of blood and this was released in the US
After watching this play through I can attest that this in fact is a real great game, most unlike what many so called UA-cam personalities like to say nasty stuff about it. There is no time limit, you can get your sub weapon back if you get one you don’t want, most of the time(enemies on screen), an extra sub weapon attack that this player used highly successfully, the graphics are beautiful with detailed backgrounds, the chain makes a chain sound affect, other sounds are of hi quality, his stride is badass, he can do a back flip, he can jump off stairs, cool soundtracks, there are many great qualities to this one. Is it hard/difficult as hell, it sure looks that way. Maby that’s the reason for all the hate I’ve seen. I for one plan to revisit it soon in hope the get through as well as this guy or gal is playing. He or She’s a boss! Since I own every title and example of Castlevania, including all the imports, this looks of great quality right up there with Rondo of Blood, Bloodlines and Super Castlevania lV. I love the no time limit versions best. However the original NES I revisit monthly. It’s just too great not to.
This is a good game. It’s just a letdown compared to Rondo and SCIV. I think the graphics and sound are phenomenal but the level design is lacking when compared to the other 16 bit Castlevania titles. Frankly I think this was rushed out to hit the Christmas 1995 deadline because Konami knew that SNES would be a second fiddle console by Christmas 1996.
@@ezehogan I believe you are correct you have a very valid point. I noticed Resident Evil 6 was rushed as well. I played through it once and done. Unlike Res Evil 4, that game set the bar I feel. I still can’t get the unlimited hand cannon. Those double chainsaw guys are beyond brutal! Lately, last 6 months or so Super Castlevania 4 has been my go to and I just really like it a lot. I’ve discovered some speed run techniques that work well for my still leisure way of enjoying it. Especially the whip dongle usability
@@ezehogan I think another reason this is inferior is because Konami had to make this considering the SNES hardware's limitations and cartridge space limits compared to Rondo being released as a CD game for the PC Engine's Super CD-ROM2 add-on (CDs allowing more content than cartridges).
Playing this after playing scv4 was a trip lol
now instead of watching a movie go and play the game
people who don't play games have no worth to their opinions
this is one of the worst games ever made in history
and i played a lot of turds
It is one of the most difficult castlevanias
Jonathan I. Gorrachius. A half demon, built by the ancient ones. A being who contains a fraction of Draculas true power. Waiting to be unleashed unto the world.
blue is the best color
The OST kick ass!!!
One of the greatest of all time. Golden grift
How many girls did u rescue on this playthourgh?
2 women.
Apparently this game couldn’t include the other two
This game has the worst final boss room in all of the castlevania series it’s literally one big middle finger to the player I want James Rolf to do a angry video game nerd review of this game from start to finish lol
Wow beating up drac already? Nice playthrough
What was cut from Rondo of Blood to gain so much hate?
Pretty much everything that made Rondo so good. Just check out a video of it, you'll see
Both are good games, but Rondo is better designed. Still, it's worth trying out as it's almost like adding new levels to Rondo.
I think you might be asking the wrong question. Despite what most people say, this isn't a port of Rondo of Blood, it's more like a re-imagining. The levels and most of the bosses are completely different. Even Dracula is a completely different fight. It's an entirely different game from Rondo of Blood, but just happens to use a lot of assets from it, and the same soundtrack (albeit not in the same CD quality, of course).
Because it wasn't a true Port of the game.
Fanciful Dancing Star It's a different reality, Maria doesn't do battle in this version and in the original she was never related to Annette Renard.
8:22 that technique is cool. How did you do that?

Prologue
*Mark Elliot:* Transylvania. The Middle Ages.... An evil Darkness had befallen the land, giving rise to sinister vampire legends.
*Mark Elliot:* Until now, the people of Transylvania had grown accustomed to their peaceful existence, secure in the knowledge that their famed hero, Simon Belmont, had sealed the fate of Count Dracula several hundred years prior.
*Mark Elliot:* Wicked townsfolk, possessed by the Darkness conspired to revive the King of Blood.... Dracula, now undead once more, plotted to exact revenge upon the descendant of the family that destroyed him... Richter Belmont.
*Mark Elliot:* The Prince of Evil viciously attacked the town with his unholy legion. He snatched away Richter's girlfriend, Annet and her sister, Maria. Imprisoning them in his vile castle, he lies in wait for Richter to attempt a rescue.
*Mark Elliot:* Richter, burdened by his destiny, left for Dracula's castle with his legendary ancestral whip, the determination to save his loved ones and the resolve to send Dracula to eternal damnation once and for all!

That skeleton dog is the scariest thing I have ever seen
It be great if I didn't have to see ads every minute
Konami's poor attempt to bring Rondo of Blood to the Snes. This game took so many back steps it's crazy. Konami should have done it right by porting Rondo of Blood t the Sega CD.
Nobody cared for Sega CD 🤫
Muy buenos gráficos.
i always wanted to know....how the hell you can do the backflip
jump, then push the jump button again when in the air.
At least, that's how it's done in Rondo.
The water area boss reminds me of Hewdraw.
Respect to those who enjoy this, but re-imagining often involves no imagination at all. To me, it seems this only appeals to hardcore gamers. Playing chess with unusual pieces on a new board doesn't make it a "new game".
I think this game was rushed out the door as a quick cash grab while the SNES was still relevant. By the time this was released in North America the Saturn was out for several months and the PlayStation was hitting store shelves. Nintendo 64 would be released the following year. The 16 bit era was on the decline so Konami put limited resources into this game in an effort to maximize their profit. That also explains the small print run this game had.
Best game ever!!!!
That's the "good" ending??? Wow. Conglaturations! Pt 2 and 4 for life, y'all!
Actually this game IS pretty much a harder version of Rondo of Blood. The FLAW is in Richter's control scheme HIMSELF! A walk speed is so dang slow but an ENORMOUS jump distance and lag that he has to RECOIL from. But despite all that, he has no air control, no whip control, and a severely handicapped item crash , which CAN be an exercise in frustration.
So yeah, every other gripe about this game is just hogwash. The sound quality is even BETTER imho ..
For as mid as this game is the graphics are just stunning. Imagine seeing this game when the SNES launched. It looks more 32bit then 16.
