You will have to pay far through the rear soon enough. This isn't free content. It's the interesting factor that makes it worth watching. Most free stuff sucks
StudioBinder is the best filmmaking UA-cam channel out there imo. Thank you so much, you make what would usually take months of film class to learn accessible to anybody in clear ways that don’t beat about the bush. I owe a lot to you
You may not earning much with these videos but trust me you are inspring, teaching and helping whole lots of young and budding filmmakers in this world.
I only learned shallow, deep, and rack focus at my college. I surprised that there more type of camera focus. Watching your video makes me learn more and more about filmmaking. Thank you for giving us this knowledge. 🙏🙏🙏
I learned more from this shot list series than my entire media university. I wish StudioBinder was an online film school. I would happily join. The amount of value we are getting free is huge.
Just bought a $30 split diopter, had no idea it was such a simple effect to achieve. Think I first saw it in a Hitchcock film then saw it at the cinema in Cape Fear, the shot in the video above. It was amazing to see on the big screen, Nick Nolte's face absolutely huge in closeup with Jessica Lange sharp in the background. Like they say used sparingly it's such a great device. Thanks for the tip!!!
With every episode that I watch, I get more and more pumped and excited at the prospect of my career as a filmmaker. The fact this is all free blows me away! Tusen takk Studio Binder!
I'm so glad you're covering Camera Gear next, always found that to be intimidating but your videos are always easy to understand while going over specific details. Can't wait!
Lately I have been thinking about writing a screenplay and producing/directing it. Never went to film school whatsoever. Somehow, I found this channel and holy molly man, this series are so helpful. I also registered on StudioBinder app and it's so intuitive and helpful. Thanks a lot for what you are guys doing, this is big effort what you're teaching in here, keep it up guys, really, such an awesome content!
These videos are extremely well made, and I appreciate the effort it takes to make your points clearly, concisely and - most impressively - simply enough for the lay person to understand. This is a very hard ballance to strike. Sometimes of course, it does result in oversimplification - in this case, talking about deep/shallow focus as simply an artistic choice, not a technical hurdle to overcome. But without going into light-sensitivity, aperture and focal length, it is hard to explain why you might not be able to achieve deep focus on a certain shot (or be shallower than you'd like). You also didn't go into the effects different focal lengths have on the same kinds of shots - the inaccurately named "lens-compression". Maybe an upcoming episode?
100%! We have a new series in the works on the Exposure Triangle where we dive deep into the technicals of Aperture, ISO, and Shutter Speed, and how they all affect each other.
This is, I think, one of the most overlooked tools by new filmmakers. The amount of students who use the shallowest focus possible purely because it looks more "cinematic". Great series.
i had read the article on your website covering all theses...the one that explains the 6 aspects of a shot, and i thought there could not be a better resource to understand the wide range of items that need to be considered while watching/making a scene....but these series of videos u r making are even better than that! thank you so much for all the information you share...the variety of references and the content is simply awesome! YOU have helped me a lot to be able to watch movies more consciously and therefore like and enjoy them more

Split diopter can be done using two takes and the invisible split-screen method AKA split comping, no need for specialised lens.
Thanks 🙏🏽
True! We just wanted to show how to do it all in camera
Does it really matter tho? What matters is the technique of two different focus distances coexisting in the same shot to create uneasiness
