** This is an old video I posted where I used some music that was discovered copyrighted recently. I removed and replaced the music with another free one, so I re-upload this video with some free music. **
Spent some quality time with the African Wild Cat at Cheetah Experience in South Africa when volunteering. I was petting one of the yearling female when she started to knead onto a giant stuffed teddy bear. Kneading is a cub/kitten behavior that all cats do to help stimulate milk production from the mother. It serves to get the milk to flow better through her teats. It's like when we squeeze the air out of an air mattress to get all of it out we can. They do this normally when kittens, but if they are removed from their mother, the behavior can extend into adulthood. Many of a domesticated cat does this and is why. Wild ones are no different.
Once she was finished kneading, she laid down on top of her surrogate mother stuffed teddy bear and went to sleep... Comforted and content. Thought it was awfully cute, so decided to share it with you.
People may wonder why these kittens were taken from their mother. I do not know the answer, but usually when projects get animals that are NOT endangered, some other circumstance has occurred and these projects offer up a home for them. I think these were bred by some breeder that didn't want them. CE did NOT breed these Wild Cats.
Thanks for watching!

Welcome! This video is a repost from about 6 years ago and polished up a bit due to a previous music copyright infringement discovered recently. I also added a cameo from Jake, a REAL African Wildcat. He's since been rewilded thanks to Running Wild Conservation. The music is now some freebie I found.
Most wildcats in captivity I've seen are hybrids of Wildcat and House cat. They end up at rescue centers like this one. The collars are there to help ID them and give enrichment walks.
I'm real careful now not to 'infringe' and even invested in a musical keyboard to 'attempt' at making my own music. Like I've mentioned before. I do everything about my videos, might as well be responsible for the music too. It's a matter of costs and return. Most of my videos, like in any album you buy, some are good and some are not.
One of our male cats we adopted 'last' year still does this kneading, too. We didn't know why, so this video was actually an explanation. They were a litter of 7 and dropped off in an underground parking lot when animal rescue found them. The one who's still doing this was far too thin when we got him, guess he didn't have that much time with their mom either. :(
He's kneading our living room rug (fluffy) on a daily basis. Kinda cute, if you forget the 'why'.
(Edit: All 7 found a home and our 2 fluffballs are healthy and happy now. And actually enjoyed watching the new year's fireworks, which surprised us.
@@the_ecips9692 I have a cat that I kept when her mother got pregnant. They both still live with me and she (the kitten) is now an adult and still kneads and suckles on soft blankets.
Just seen a video of you feeding Abi raw chicken ...remember that 60% of supermarket chickens in the US tested positive for at least one strain of bacteria capable of causing food poisoning. And that while predators are more resistant to these bacteria, they’re not immune. So it’s a bad idea to feed raw US supermarket chicken to your pet.
@@Our_UnStoppableKing I'm pretty sure most of these videos take place in an African country, not the US.
@@Our_UnStoppableKing Ok redditor, better stick to yer christianity bread now
If I didn't know otherwise, I would think these cats were just beautifully marked house cats. 😻
Right?! They were forced by South African law to be enclosed due to being labeled a wild animal. But they are hybrids for sure.
They are. This guy is bullshitting. Legs too short and body length too small. Google African wild cat.
Reminds me of wild bison here in Canada. Their DNA is only 95% bison, the rest is domesticated cow. Just shows how pervasive the genes we've helped mold have become
Aw, a big liddl baby!
Me too, they look just like the tiger kitties I’ve had & known over the years…except for the long tails. ❤
Its remarkable how much the tabby pattern is pretty much identical to my girl Chloe's. And she's wild...ly domesticated
Yup. Most all house cats came from the African Wildcat and why.
About kneading;
I've noticed something in my own cats (domestic of course);
If kneading on clothes, they use their claws and they usually hurt a bit because the claws go right through a t-shirt, but if they knead on bare skin they're much more careful to not puncture me.
I think cats equate our clothes to their fur, and don't consider that our clothes usually aren't nearly as thick as their fur, so they tend to puncture us a bit when kneading on us, but are also aware that bare skin is vulnerable and don't use their claws nearly as mch when kneading bare skin.
Granted, thats just my experience.
Mine knows the difference between exposed and unexposed skin, too
Yes! When I play with Gabriel the cheetah. He bites REALLY hard through the shirts and pants, but Gentle with my bare skin. It's like they know.
One of my cats likes rough play and he is way gentler on bare hands(until he gets too wound up) but my brother has a leather welding glove we put on so he can go crazy. You can feel a definite increase in bite force and the strength of his grabs and kicks!
My cats will attack my feet while they’re under blankets but as soon as a bit a shin peeks through game’s over.
Agreed! My cat does the same during play as well. When he's pouncing on toys, no holds barred. When he's playing with me (one of his favorite games is tag) he's very careful about where his claws go. They are such wonderful, clever animals.
Knowing that she's safe and happy is beautiful.
For sure!
Gosh they are adorable 😍😍
I'm not surprised humans felt the *knead* to tame them
They kinda self-tamed.
Cats and humans lived around eachother for centuries before they even considered "taming" them.
I mean, it made sense for cats to live around humans;
We make a constant mess around us that attracts their prey, while also living in large enough groups that their predators stay away.
It must have been a brave person who decided to try taming the first cat;
"Hmm, those little fuzzy violent nutjobs that shred everything they come across would probably make for a nice companion..."
Of course, the cats were all like;
"Hold up! You're telling me I get to be safe, warm, AND have food, and all I have to do is allow you to pet me..? I am all in, baby!"
True!
@@The_Keeper Probably one hanging around the humans got brave, they were being fed to keep them around maybe... cat headbonks human legs...human reaches down to scritch...
@@The_Keeper IF you can get access to any kind of very young, feral kitten, generally they can become accustomed to humans and will essentially domesticate themselves. A neighbor once rescued a pair of wild orphaned bobcats who matured into large "house cats" better behaved than a few of my domestic monsters.
@@The_Keeper Back when humans started growing and storing grains, they attracted rodents and that brought in the cats. So the cats were seen as an asset with their help in controlling the rodent population. Friendships and cuddles ensued.
The kneading is actually called my all time favorite word!! SMURGLING!!!
Their personality is so sweet! Even better than many housecat!
They are cute.... 😍
I often get woken up in the morning by any one of my three cats climbing on my chest and kneeding me because they want their breakfast... it's a nice feeling and social interactions with cats who are complacent enough to do this to their owner is usually very affectionate due to the relationship built on trust and respect for their habits even if it involves claws.
I never had that... But, surprisingly, I've never owned a cat until cheetahs decades into my life. Had a feral cat tamed with food so it kept the rodents away. It worked!
Aww, they look like my older sister's Egyptian Mau, a direct descendant of the African Wildcat.
This explains how we have different colored pet cats. Their eyes show wild.
Yeah!
wild or no, a kitty is a kitty is a kitty
CATS!
That's a good looking kitty right there...
Very cute kit.
Beautiful baby kitties! My boy Jagger (a regular inside gray floofy cat) also suckles the blankie while kneading. I bottle fed him because his mama wasn't tending to him.
My tabby looks just like these wild cats.
Cute sweet kitty
Finding out my cat is a wildcat from UA-cam shorts wasnt how I expected my morning to go
You've got one!
@@CheetahWhisperer I just thought he was a bit in the heavy side!
Hes beautiful. Hes basically a tabby
beauty of nature!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Pretty kitty
Beautiful beasts.
Indeed!
Looks like the feral cat that hangs out on my property, but friendlier.
Cool...
The two cats from a friend are doing the same on my chest and my shoulder.
After that, i needed a new Shirt. All sucked wet.
I love this Cats so much. If i could have some Cats for home, they should be Bengals.
The sweetest talking and active cats in the World. ❤❤❤❤
So happy for you... and the happy cats.
My 15 year old Bengal cat still does the biscuit making while biting a object.
Amazing and cute. They love it.
Compared to dogs it's amazing how little domestic cats have changed in 10,000 years
I know!
There are more and less inbred breeds, like the persian cat for example - large amount of genetic and structural health issues. Equally cruel are the cats bred with short legs, lifelong joint problems and inability to jump. A wolfdog is much healthier than a pug. I assume these wildcats were bred with domesticated cats at some point but even still, they are incredibly healthy like other more natural breeds.
Thank you for reposting, Dolph! I'm catless now - lost my Simon in September at 14 - so it's lovely to see Jake and the kneaders. 😻 Simon kneaded me like crazy, and loved best to do it on bare skin, but OW. He could never learn to retract. He'd dig right on in, and his claws were literally needle-sharp if I put off trimming them. I didn't mind him shoving his paws hard against me, and he was strong, but the punctures! LOL. I looked like I was a dartboard. His favorite was to do it while we were settling in to sleep. I'd hold him in my arms, and he'd knead my chest and purr. I loved it, even when going, "Ow, ow, ow, easy!" Sure showed how efficient their claws are, though. Effortless, on human skin. His sister kneaded too, but never lying down, or on me. She'd stand by me without touching and tread while purring incredibly loudly. She was only 5 or 6 pounds, but had one of the bggest purrs I've heard. She showed love more with her purrs or snuggling. About the third day I had them, I'd barely woken, without moving; but of course she knew. She started purring to me before I even breathed deeply, and I knew I was family. I was so lucky to be loved by both of them!
Happy New Year, and a very good year to you and yours!
Guess it can hurt...
@@CheetahWhisperer in my experience it's the cats who grew up having their claws trimmed who later poke holes in you when they knead if you don't continue keeping them trimmed. My cats who have never had theirs trimmed quickly learn how to retract them. Haven't had a ton of success teaching them to retract later in life, so I just keep those kitties trimmed whenever it starts getting painful.
Interesting @@dragoncat5836
AW. He's not just kneading, he's suckling as well. ONe of my cats used to do that on my clothes. It is very sweet, but also sad, seeing how much she loves her fake mother.
Thanks Dolph
:)
🥰🥰🥰Beautiful cat!
Yes, thank you
They look just like tabby cats its adorable, i wonder what they sound like when they meow
I've heard them. Sounds just like a cat.
My 8 month old domestic short hair tabby (in Texas) suckles and kneads my shirt collar and neck several times a day since I adopted him at eight weeks old. He purrs like crazy and yes, leaves my collar soaking. He actually looks almost identical to these African wild cats.
Thad amazing and cute.
Making bisques🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️
I think I accidentally have four or five of these living in my house right now.
Omg these are beautiful and huge housecats! 😱
They are cute. Thanks for watching!
another good year of happy cats and nice information about how these amazing creatures live. thank you and may all the cats in care of those projects be happy.
Welcome and sure glad you were Here!
That's the species that domestic cats have come from!
Yes!
She doesnt want to hurt you, house cats love to knead with pain.
Hahaha...
Thank you for the kneady wildcat and the others. Happy 2024!
Same to you!
Che gattino delizioso! 😍😍😍
I know! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video I loved it I adore those cats the world needs to know the cats are special
Ah... that brings back memories of a late friends cat who loved to suckle my earlobe... wierd but endearing experience!
Ohh man. Cheetahs LOVE earlobes. Gabriel licks, pinches and bites mine.

@@CheetahWhisperer Yeah, that's sweet, though you've shown how cheetah tongues are MUCH rougher on your skin!
These cat's small cats make me cry. I worry for these beautiful cats. These peculiar cats and are compaion cat's.
They need Govt protection for sure. All life.
They look like regular cats.😂😂😂
A lot of domestic cats don't bother retracting their claws when contacting human skin. That wildcat was extremely gentle.
Cool!
Interesting,I seem to have an African wildcat at home.
That kitty loves the bear, but she loves you too. Look at the whiskers as they point forward a little and fan out.
Next time you're with the AWCs, try giving them slow blinks when they see you, see how they react to that.
Cool. I will.
Wow! What a nice long tail! 😳
Very!
That looks like a Bangle, I had an F3 Bangle. He was a very kewl cat but he was fast and a jumper. He slept on the top of doors. Caused many shorts to get wet walking past him in t the middle of the night.
Wow... 👌
Quand on aime les félins, on les trouve tous superbes ... hormis les munchkins rase-mottes !

Awwww a puddy tat ❤

I ❤ her she is beautiful 🇦🇺🍀🌻💕🐈
:)
African wild cat?
More like American Kitty Cat. 🐈⬛
Wow😮😮😮😮 i would think is a house cat😮😮😮😮
Probably hybrids or re-inbreeding of Wildcat and house cat. It's not good due to the watering down of the pure blood genes of the Wildcat.
At 1.03 that little girl looks just my little East End mogg
Ahhh.,... The genes don't water down much after domesticating the Wildcat.
actually looks just like my neighbors cat!!!
That's where I recorded this...
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Looks a lot like a typical tabby.
This is the most passionate kneading I've ever seen👐
I've seen these cats on TV before. No, it's not a scam. They really DO look like a giant brown tabby. The one that I saw was from a zoo. It definitely did not like being on the talk show. It hissed and growled the entire time. I had a brown tabby at the time. They had the same markings.
Yes! House cats came from em. Most did. There are other small wild cats that were domesticated across the globe too
You mean a house cat that snuck out for some scratches
WHAT...THAT LOOKS LIKE A HOUSE CAT!
Aww cutie. I have a tabby that was either abandoned or orphaned at 4-5 weeks and he kneads all the time. He's only suckled a few times though
Cats are cute...
My senior brown tabby looks similar to an African wildcat and he kneads on a soft blanket on my lap multiple times a night. 😻❤️
That's awesome!
What a sweet animal.
She really is... thanks for watching.
He looks and behaves just like our wild furr friends in Ukraine
Cool!
@CheetahWhisperer Maybe cause of genes
Our cats is "down to earth" from streets often spending there generations of cats from where last generations came
No bread or changed breeds
But I no history or biology doctor
Just interesting theory
So adorable! I love when my cats come and knead on me, but regular nail trims are essential because they do NOT always retract them!!!
Great tip!
i just put a blanket down, my cat waits until i do then hops up!
Lovely video Dolph.
Wishing you and your cats a Happy and Great New Year!
You too! Happy New Year!
*Nice kat. Envious of your job.* 😺

From South Africa to Canada... eh?
The purrs got me good ❤❤❤❤
I'll have a better purr video from cheetahs 🐆 soon.
Looks like my last cat, Fergus.
Ole Fergus. Nice.
I have a terrier who even shakes her head if I offer a biscuit she doesnt like....until a cat or my other dog show an interest. 😅
Ha! Even my cheetahs won't eat some meats.
Such a nice kitty, very lovable
She and the rear are. There was a male brother too, but he's not as friendly and brought up just like the rest.

Good news sir in India three cheetah cubs are born. Hope they will survive.
All new ones?
@@CheetahWhisperer Yes sir cheetah aasha born 3 cubs on 26th December
Nice .
Thank you! Cheers!
They are so cute!😻
I know!
Some cats retract thier claws, and some grown men. have little prick marks all over thier stomach
Dang...
Report them. Immediately.
Bless you sir 💙
edit: you've never been kneaded?! One of life's best bonuses 👍
Not yet!
I had a male cat that always did that while sucking the tip of his own tail. It looks super cute, but it's actually pretty sad bc it usually means the cat got separated from the mother too early 😭 Every cat kneads though, for example prior to lying down, but this particular way with the searching and sucking means they didn't have their mom long enough.
It's a cute behavior
Like 99% of all house pets were taken from mom before weaning. Because the babies imprint on whomever raises them and we want baby cuteness.
My cats look identical
Yup! Product of domesticating the Africa Wildcat and other wild smaller cats around the world.
For a long time, scientists had the wrong idea about the social needs of domestic cats, because they’d been using data collected from European wildcats, which are solitary and territorial. It wasn’t until later that they realized that domestic cats mostly descend from African wildcats, who are far more gregarious than their European cousins.
Interesting...
Had two cats, they do this every evening when i am resting on the couch ... 🥰
So cute.. THey really like it.
Looks like their toes are a bit longer than the average cat,
I had the same cat in Morocco for me thez are just house cats the cat i had used to sleep in my house at the morning asking me to open the door so it can go out and the same thing every time
I have a cat Tiger. She looks like an African wildcat. 100%. She thinks she’s a real Tiger too.
Very cool!
Maybe she was too young when she was separated from her mother.
Yes. Exactly what happened. Our domesticated house pets are the same. Taken from mom early.
She's absolutely adorable!!! She reminds me of my silver tabby and her name was Samantha. She lived until the age of 21. I would love to have your job!!
Glad you had such long life with your cat. I pray for the same.
You jumping back in? I’m ready for some new vids! Cheetah man back in action. 😂😂😂
I think my cat just teleported to you 😂
Hehe...

@@CheetahWhisperer you too!
That’s kitty looks like a domestic kitty. Is that was the original ancestors of my cat hex looks like? I swear that a regular house cat!
Afircan Wildcat is main ancestor of house cats 🐈 but these are probably hybrids cross between Wildcat and house.
the scottish wildcat has faced a similar problem with interbreeding.
