This is more of my experiment with a couple of tame Cheetahs as a endangered breeding center called Cheetah Experience in South Africa. Cats love softness and Cheetahs are no exception to that rule. Faith here, is a female African Cheetah with a handicap. She was born with sterile meningitis that affected her bone, joint, and nervous system. She is still a Cheetah and loved spending her nights with me inside her enclosure. Faith loved snuggling up close and sharing a sleepover.
She discovered the softest spot in the cement box we slept in was my pillow. I wasn't going to force her off of it and so asked her politely if I could use her as a pillow and she did not mind. Big Cats love sharing the warmth and often lay right next and op top of each other. It is a survival instinct and quite natural. Normally, these Cheetahs lay on me instead of the other way around and knew she would mind. She liked it and fast fell asleep after purring, grooming, trying to love bite me.
She fell asleep and right away started to jerk, twitch, and run in her sleep like she does. The heart of mammals are on the left hand side of the chest and I was could actually hear and feel her heart beating.
I noticed something unusual. Her heart would accelerate as she breathed in rather than breathing out. I also noticed the same phenomenon with the other Cheetah who visits me inside this Cheetah Box.... Eden. I had a theory about why the breathing and heart rate are like this.
Cheetahs need lots of energy to accelerate like they do and maintain high speeds. Everything about them is designed for this. Lightweight bodies, low fat content, thin bones, large heart and lungs, keen hearing and eye sight, and temperature regulation.
I think with an increased heart beat during an intake of air/oxygen helps in feeding their muscles to generate that high release of energy. When the heart slows down on the exhale, it allows the blood stream to release the CO2 or carbon dioxide at a normal pace before the next inhale of air and another rapid heartbeat. Just a theory and could be tested with tamed Cheetahs. Maybe one day I will do that.
Anyway, I got VERY little sleep this night as well with all the purring, grooming, restless sleeping of Faith. She is a stationary sleep walker and jerked and twitched ALL night. Then her friend Eden came in and groomed us both for 20 minutes before she purred for 30 minutes before she fell asleep.
Eden and faith are just super nice Cheetahs and I was privileged to get to know them and spend my nights inside their enclose with them. But don't expect to sleep much.

Fun fact: Apparently cheetahs are naturally timid animals and get anxious/nervous easily when they grow up in captivity. Some zoos have emotional support dogs to be companions for these cheetahs.
Yes... non aggressive by nature (a survival trait to avoid fights which they lose to larger predators and leopards). Even mean ones are not dangerous if you respect them. They can even get used to you.
Another fun fact: If the cheetahs are emotionally abusive to the emotional support dogs, the support dogs have prairie dog companions assinged to them. If the support dogs are emotionally shallow to the prarie dogs, the prairie dogs get circus trained cockroaches to make them smile. When you step on a cockroach, then you're basicallly killing a cheetah

You're good at avoiding hate.
People literally don't know that Cheetahs are legit big domestic cats since they are MORE related to THEM than Lions and Leopards.
This means they are out of probably most of the "big cats" are the closest we are going to get to a pet big cat.
Event then, he acknowledges that this is a "tamed" animal not domesticated. She trusts him enough to allow him to engage in grooming behaviours which btw is a HUGE thing for animals.
Hell, stroking snakes can relax them enough for them to crap on you. I have no doubt that a mammal would have a better thinking process.
Also, they don't seem to understand that she's not able to be in the wild because of her disabilities... That's like throwing Jimmy off his Wheelchair and saying he has to deal without. It's just not fair.
Nice thought out comment. Like when people think and express their ideas.
@@CheetahWhisperer yeah some people just don't think and believe every captive animal is suffering for some reason...
Snakes are very intelligent and social animals, much like cats. A lot of people have misconceptions about animals where they're just mindless eating machines, but that's not really how any species operates in practice. Reptiles are warm and affectionate problem solvers that bond with their families, their friends, and (when applicable) their human caregivers. You can cuddle a crocodile the same way this man cuddled that cheetah, and for the same reason: these animals naturally live in groups and bond with conspecifics, which includes a lot of laying around making bodily contact with each other. Crocs do this. Cats do this. Snakes do this. Humans do this. It's pretty universal tbh.
@genegray9895 Reptiles still are less emotional than mammals, especially snakes.
They do feel emotion.
But it is too important that a reptile, especially a snakes brain, is simply built differently from a mammal on average.
They do feel emotion, yes, but it's a lot more primal, which there's nothing wrong with. It just simply means they don't hold grudges to such an extent something like an elephant would.
And it does depend on species. Smaller snakes are typically more passive and willing to operate together.
Larger ones, less so.
It's really about species, as you'd expect.
Intelligence and emotion are also separate things. Snakes are quite smart, and they're often discredited for that. A lot of snakes hunt mice, which are remarkably smart. You'd have to at least be somewhat smart to counteract that...
@@zombiedalekweck2243 I don't agree that emotions and intelligence are separate. They're clearly coupled, with more intelligent animals being associated with more emotional behaviors and vice versa. The brain is responsible for intelligence and for emotion, and judging the relative capacities for emotion and intelligence using brain anatomy is historically very unreliable. Also, birds are reptiles, and birds have mammal-like brain complexity, intelligence, and emotional capacity, so it's not entirely clear cut. But I think we agree much more than we disagree and I'm not trying to argue just for the sake of arguing. I'm just urging for a greater awareness, in general, that animals across the tree of life are nuanced personalities, not mindless automata. The hierarchy you're proposing between mammals and reptiles, while somewhat legitimate, may be misleading in the direction of underestimating the sophistication and nuance of reptile behaviors.
And once again youtube recommendation system gathered us all together

"Social experiment" my ass. You just want to cuddle a Cheetah. I don't blame you. This is just a big cat. My cat displays the EXACT same behavior.
Glad you cat is like these cheetahs. It started out an experiment. I had no idea what to expect other than them telling me to watch out for Faith's Love bites. But since them, I've returned 3 times past 2 years and book rooms inside the cheetahs enclosures and others every night I'm there for weeks on end. I use my volunteer room for storage only :)
It's absolutely incredible - wonderful experience. What makes it special is they enjoy the company as well and all snuggle up, purr, groom and lay on you most of the night. It is very special considering it's an endangered species that loves spending nights with you. But, I have learned many things about these cheetahs because being so close.
I bet it's an powerful experience! :) Would love to meet a Cheetah one day, not share a bed with two of them perhaps but just to be close to one.
I've actually met an Amur Leopard though, through a fence cause those guys can't be tamed like a Cheetah, but still, powerful stuff and a really powerful cat.
What country is this happening in? And what does the experience cost e.t.c?
It is in South Africa in Bloemfontein and called Cheetah Experience. Look it up. www.cheetahexperience.com. I volunteer and it costs the ticket to fly there, and about $40 per day to live communally. Live in volunteer house and fed breakfast and lunch only. Laundry transportation and everything is provided. Well worth it.
My very 1st day I was able to babysit a young cheetah and spend the night, feed them while inside their enclosures, walk them on a harness and spend quality time DAY 1. You watch some of the young ones 24/hrs due to their vulnerability to sickness and harm.
Some of the cheetahs require getting to know before spending the night with them or encountering them by yourself during the day, but it only takes a couple of days to get acquainted. Just feed them, pet, and play with them with toys, and allow them to lick you and they will learn to trust and like you. Cheetahs are an amazing hidden secret of the wild cat world. Very much like house cats. Leopards are not far behind in trust, but nothing like cheetahs.
Thanks for the info! :)
Cats are domesticated. Cheetas are wild and feral. There's a difference. A huge difference. An even more dangerous difference, take note.

To anybody who doesn’t know, cheetahs are the only “wild large cat” that can be domesticated, they are not like lions or tigers what so ever, they are way way smaller, less strong, not as aggressive.
