I hope you get what i mean. Also put a bit of extra lubricant in if you have the wheel open anyways. Tadaa this will reduce the noise around 80% or even more.
@@lighnr Yeah i believe you haha, the problem is that i don't even know how to call these things in german. The ffb motors have tiny gears which move long, black plastic things (rails) left and right. Je ne pense pas que cette pièce soit réellement prévu pour réduire les sons de claquement mais plutôt pour remplacer en cas de casse , par une pièces plus rigide et de meilleurs qualité , qui rend le volant plus agréable a utiliser
G25 is quiet, it has better - two gears and spring mechanism - compensation of noise making from loose gears. If you want quiet, make gaps between gears teeth smaller by mounting them closer to each other .
G29 have helical gears which make no noise at all. All the noise is from electric motors shaft hitting plastics stoppers. This is caused by helical gears, they pull or push shafts. Noise in this construction can only be eliminated if Logitech used herringbone gears. I guess that plastic gears could not handle torque..
Just ordered on Ali express, it's my last resort to revitalize the wheel, my chassis cracked. Can't wait for it to arrive. Thank you for the video :D .
The common cracking around the bearing housing can also be fixed with a dremel, a large jubilee clip (hose clamp) and some patience! You just have to keyhole the support ribs around the bearing housing, feed the jubilee clip through and tighten down. Completely removed all of the play in my wheel!
Thanks for the upload ill be picking one up for my 923 as its insane how loud this wheel is. Every game i reduce the road feel to almost nothing to help with it, even curbs on most tracks get the thing sounding like a jackhammer.
The inside of the wheelbase needs to be greased after a while. When you use your wheel daily the pieces inside generate friction. That burns the grease inside of it, and believe me, from the factory it comes with way less grease than it actually needs. I have a g27 its very old nowadays and i greased it because i Bought it used and it works perfectly.
the rack limiter is what makes all the noise, I need to find a replacement for mine but finding new ones are impossible. Also Ifixit show a teardown and how to recalibrate the alignment :)
in my opinion if you bought your wheel before yes otherwise if you get the wheel plus all the upgrades to make it better its not since you can get a direct drive for that price and a good one
Taking your comment on the overall effect on old wheels vs new, Danny one could say your wheel will now hold its "feel" characteristics as you sense it, longer, perhaps even longer than the design life of the wheel. So, as an upgrade I still believe it is a good one to have on a new wheel. My used wheel is in right now on its way to me. When I first use it I will be looking for wear issues and will keep this mod in mind. For Aussies interested in this mod this plate is AU$74 including shipping as at June, 2024.
What makes the most amount of noise in these wheels is the hard stop mechanism. While Logitech has better main gearbox than Thrustmaster with their 'hybrid' approach (which is basically a glorified but really coarse gear mechanism with added belt to smooth some of the high frequency FFB effects out), Thrustmaster got one thing right. They have made a steering wheel shaft into a screw and made what essentially is a plastic nut going back and forth on it, bumping into hard stops and thus limiting travel. Much smoother, much quieter. Hell, for what what I care, I may end up buying G2x/G92x wheel and modding the crap out of it for the giggles. So while this mod helps for sure as metal cover will dampen the noise as it's much heavier than original and much more stiff, you may want to design and 3D print a better pinion gear, perhaps with some rubber rollers on it, to eliminate plastic on plastic contact.
Awesome upgrade for $35. Could you please also try insulating the original plastic part with spray foam or sound deadening mat from car audio? I would be very interested in the results. I just bought a new G293 set and the DF Shifter for $215 and $20, respectively. While
I was considering this the other day, not cause I need it at all more because I could so thank you for your review been looking for a second opinion on these before buying and you hit that mark for me, might be worth upgrading down the line less cause of sound more to remove potential failure points in the wheel.
I made similar things to my bro's g27 and result was same we made a 3d printed sleeves instead of plastic parts. I also tried rc car tooth wheel for my g29 for just one motor, i think this is better solution. Almost no friction but should make a special part for motor which is with encoder.
I wonder if you could simply add noise dampening (insulators, that are also used in cars), inside the housing, if that would dampen the sound. Sad that no one has tried this. But also having an aluminium body feels more robust than the plastic thats included.
I want to lube the big center gear and the 2 small gears behind the electric motors cause they sound a lot when the wheel is returning, sould i use lithium grease?
Been using my G25 since release and still using it to this day. This is one upgrade that could be fun investing in and possibly even noise canceling foam could be an interesting customization when the wheel goes bad. Hey man just wondering if you came across the metal spring which is like a half moon when you’d separated the internals from the base, mine fell out when I separated it and can’t figure out for the life of me where it came from
My G29 started making such noises a few weeks in, from using almost all the FFB range but barely avoiding clipping. The sharper turns in my daily Nürburgring lap reach 3/4th the FFB range, crashes clip for obvious reasons. I could lower FFB to 100% instead of the 200% to lessen it, but as long as clipping is avoided during normal driving, more FBB more better. So I'll simply stand the noise, or take it apart and grease it if I feel the need to.
