Everything works, Endings and Openings. Though the Good NA ending gets cut before the "You're too cool!" but hey, it's loyal to the GameCube port...! heh...
===
How to install:
1.- Go to your Sonic CD folder on the Steam folder (...Steam\SteamApps\common\Sonic CD).
2.- DO A BACKUP of the "videos" folder (The one on the Sonic CD folder) Just in case.
3.- Place the 3 videos of this .zip (Bad_Ending.ogv, Good_Ending.ogv and Opening.ogv) on the "videos" folder.
4.- You will be asked if you want to Replace them/Overwrite files, say yes, obviously.
5.- Enjoy!
===
I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WORKS ON ANDROID, I DO NOT HAVE THAT VERSION
===
After stop being lazy, here it is, the full pack. Make Sonic CD 2011 on PC (Or any version that allow you to replace the video files really) the definitive version of the game with this mod!
Decided to show EVERYTHING just to let you know that, even though the original JP soundtrack was added, it won't affect the original NA soundtrack, Sonic Boom (You won't need to replace anything anymore)
Also, trying to record Sonic CD with fraps is nearly impossible, the game lags and gets a tendency to freeze. I had to record the intro in windowed mode, because I get really paranoid when a game on full.screen freezes, since it normally freezes the whole computer too.
Old yet, charming description:
WELL, I was quite disappointed that Sonic CD didn't included the lyrics of "You can do anything" and "Cosmic Eternity" when I played the Xbox version
But then, the PC version came in play (Also on discount, great game)
Knowing that nothing is impossible, 'cause if you try, you can do anything! (Also, PC modding is easier) I decided to investigate HOW TO change the songs of the videos, AND I HAD SUCCESS! after 8 hundred tries, I managed to get everything working, just like old Mario World hacking.
I couldn't find ANYONE who had uploaded the corrected videos, so I took the job on my hands. Good to contribute on this great game, buy it when you get the chance:
store.steampowered.com/app/200...
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 "You can do anything" - Japanese Opening
1:31 "Sonic Boom" - North America Opening
3:03 "Cosmic Eternity" - Japanese (Good Ending)
6:45 "Cosmic Eternity" - Japanese (Bad Ending)
8:09 "Sonic Boom" - North America (Good Ending)
11:46 "Sonic Boom" - North America (Bad Ending) - Ігри
EDIT 23/04/2024:
Added chapters to the description, essentially meaningless but whatever.
3:57 That pose and the music... This moment is just so cool.
More like MEGA AWESOME
@@BluefireSorcererOfficial SEGA AWESOME
Nope... You need only get the Time Stones...
WAY PAST COOL!!!!!!
3:34 the music is so relaxing, it`s like sonic is treated like a pure hero.
Because he IS a Hero
I miss that 90s-style traditional cel animation. All the little nuances they add which you don't really get with the overly-clean computer-generated animation just seem to add so much more to the visuals.
True, traditional animation had a lot of work put into it which gives a completely different result than computer generated animation.
agree 100%
SO DIDJ'A SEE THE SONIC MANIA PREORDER TRAILER BOIS?!
@Samoutuomas
Erm, did you actually watch the trailer? Tyson did most of the work drawing it himself, with a few other artists, I'm certain it was hand drawn.
Same goes for the ingame introduction, except there's a few scenes done by specific people and Studio Yotta did some cleanup.
You thought the preorder trailer was "overclean"?
Once again did you SEE it?
It was all scribbly and clearly intended to look like a sketchbook, just because it isn't pen and paper doesn't mean it still isn't DRAWN by somebody.
Don Bluth is going pen and paper for the Dragon's Lair movie, but just look at animators like Harry Partridge. He does basically the same thing, drawing each frame and not relying on automatic tools to help him (it's actually a joke he makes, "eww, it's all so practical and cheap!").
If you mean to say that hand drawing is moot because it's saved on a computer as files rather than using paper and pencil then I'm sorry, you have some kind of elitist complex.
It still takes the same effort, it may just be cheaper in the long run since digipads aren't limited in number like sheets of paper, nor do digipens run out of ink.
@@thesuckysix4242 Actually there is quite a big difference between what Hessen has done and older animation like this one which goes back to the technique used to accomplish it.
While I don't daub that there is an equal (or at least not to far apart) amount of work in Mania's opening animation does the technique used lead to some fundamental differences.
First of all the Cell Shading technique used here in CD leads to more washed out colors, more in each other flowing colors and the existence of film grain do to dust particles in the air that land ether on the Cell's or the film it was than printed over leading to color impurities in the individual frames them self.
If you just look at manias opening will you see just how bright the colors are and how strictly there are separated from enough because unlike with real dyes and the like is there no change of colors at the edges of the pictures to slightly flow into each other. Same goes for the complete lack of Film grain because on a computer can't air born dust cause impurities onto the image.
These differences caused by the difference in techniques used in the creation of the animation can lead to 2 other wise identically scenes having very different feelings with them.
And I personally prefer the Cell shading because not only is it simply more nostalgic to me but I also generally prefer the slightly rougher but in exchange more organic ton over the cleaner but also more artificial ton of Computer animation.
I really do love the Japanese Good Ending - it's beautiful in ever way including the too cool! ending :)
every*
The japsnese Version is every cool
It even has SFX at the start, rather than just music. Honestly a great touch!
5:18 KOICHI-KUN!?!
Oh wait, NANI!?
Hey I don't play sonic cd but it's coo,
NANI
To get the Good ending you need to:
- Destroy all the Robot teleporters in the past of each stage
or
- Get all the time stones, which will automatically grant a "good future" on every Act 3 and give you the good ending.
Before i domimated the Special Stages, i used to search and kill the robot transporters in the Past
i love the design its the best for classic sonic
4:15 Teleportaiton YEAH! Wooaah! za-ba-doo-bap-bap! (pause) wooah! teleportaiton YEAH! Wooaah shibby-doo-boo! Yeah!
I remember watching this on the sonic cd and thinking its the most amazing thing ever!!
Playing this when I was young in 1995 on the Sage CD was special. The soundtrack is nostalgia. However some years later, I learned there was a different soundtrack, via the internet, I learned that there were two sides to this AWESOME coin!!
For starters, a working 2D physics engine, which seems to be already nailed, since this version of SCD is running on a completely new engine, made originally by a Sonic hacker.
Second, a good but not complicated story. The one of the main appeal of Sonic CD is it being about Little planet and it's time traveling mechanics. And exploration.
Music, GOOD music. Probably more of a main appeal than the story itself.
And a good variety of levels, the ones on Sonic CD are mostly wacky goodness.
*Teleportation, YEAH!*
I had to. (also that's in the Japanese good ending)
*Shibby - di - boo yah!!!*
Thanks! My game felt incomplete without the proper opening/closing. You're a modern day hero :P
Now we just need a mod that reverts the time travel time back to 3 secs instead of 5, then we have the greatest Sonic game of all time on our hands.
Was looking for a mod like this. I like the Japanese lyrics. Awesome Mod !
Much appreciated partner!
Finally someone else that likes the JP version!
I loved the "yayn" and the laughs of the Japanese version (Bad ending).
MrTechNews123 the bes ver
Me Like Too you are so cool
This looks old as hell..
BUT I STILL LOVE IT 😍
Hate how without the mod there is no lyrics, AND THATS THE BEST FUCKING PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, right? Apparently they couldn't get the copyright for the lyrics from Casey Rankin, as he, unfortunately passed away. Good to mod in his memory.
That's sad. :( I didn't even know SEGA didn't make the lyrics.
MegaSuperab Yeah, that's the weird part of it, they own the instrumental (As is a remix of the "Green hills zone" theme from "Sonic the hedgehog 2" for the game gear) But the lyrics itself belong to Casey Rankin. Strange, isn't it?
XradicalD Yes and that is reason why in remastered version of Sonic CD there isn't lyrics in japanese version but this mod is your lucky charm so thaks god for this
***** ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
IT WORKS!!! Thanks to you, I now have the DEFENITIVE version of Sonic CD. Thank you SO MUCH
No problem, enjoy!
amy clasic :D
They include her in Sonic Mania, but as a bomb.
*That's No Good!*
I was startled by how the JP endings have soundeffects. That's a nice touch. "Sonic Boom" still holds a special place in my heart though.
It's not so surprising really. Ultimately, the game, animations and original music were all made together in Japan. Whether people prefer to the NA soundtrack or not, the JP/EU version were all made to fit each other, which is especially noticeable in the intro. If you have an eye for video editing, you'll start noticing things like the music and lyrics are often perfectly timed to cuts and certain actions. The sequence with the rocks starting at 0:48 highlights this at its best with the riff cutting in while spinning through the boulder, only for the lyrics to kick back in the second he starts running up the mountain.
Whereas the JP/EU version had distinct title, intro and ending music, Sonic Boom was kind of just shoehorned into all three so sadly, it just can't fit as smoothly from an editing point of view.
@@BrySkye true but if you go to the sonic mega collection they fixed up the smoothness and timing with the music and video with Sonic CD Sonic NA opening
At least that’s my opinion
Awesome! I was going to do something like this, but before I started, I decided to search one more time and found this. Thank you!
The lyrics to the JP/EU themes are so uplifting, I love it xD
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS
Thank you very much! I bought it from steam. I can´t believe I have to download a mod for listening to this songs XD. with this the perfect sonic cd version is here!
Thank you soooooooo much for uploading this
That's really metal
And depressing, specially when the sonic series always cheer me up.
Wow man, that's pretty cool! Thanks!
Brings so much memorise back then in the 90s
Thanks for your work on this mod. Now this is the ultimate version of Sonic CD.
Much appreciated amigo!
@@ivanasante2572 if it's jailbroken or can access the files of the game, probably
@@ivanasante2572 I wouldn't know
Pretty rad, man. Been looking for something like this, gonna try it right now.
...
Awesome! Works like a charm! Thanks for doing this. You gotta love that over-the-top cheesy J-Pop, just isn't the same without the vocals. It wouldn't be so bad if the instrumentals didn't have such tinny, underwhelming replacements for the voices.
Thanks bud, I appreciate it.
Yeah, the replacement for the lyrics where just some weak instruments, nothing like the cheesy but motivating as fuck original lyrics.
XradicalD I kinda do like how the American soundtrack took the same general idea and spun it differently.
Instead of: *'yeah when you're down use your heart to find your strength and place in the cosmos; keep your friends close and believe in yourself, because you can do anything'*.
It's a slightly more cynical but determined: *'use that head and heart of yours to set things right, take it all the way 'cuz when the going gets tough, the tough get going; like a sonic boom'*.
Jaxxoon R If I am correct, back then, the japanese hip hop (or something) was really popular, when they brought in the game to US, they decided they wanted other direction with the music, and we got a new soundtrack.
Uh, can one really label that J-Pop?
Zestaru It's a poppy song made by a Japanese person.
Do the math.
No problem, I was really upset when I saw the remake didn't had the original lyrics.
And thanks for motivating me in uploading this.
Wow! I was seriously missing the original music with lyrics on the Sonic CD remake. The JP/EU soundtrack is my favorite and without the original lyrics to Toot Toot Sonic Warrior and Cosmic Eternity it's just not the same. Thanks for making this mod!
Thanks for doing this, man. Saved me the time and effort.
No problem bud, enjoy! :)
the american opening for my its ameizing
Gustavo Abe Yeah, it's pretty good, eh? Good thing the mod is optional.
ow
I like the two vertions
Awesome video!!!
Glad to be of assistance! :)
Yeah you're right, there were quite the series involving sonic, but it always impressed me why they went for such dark and gritty art style. It's like a bad future where Eggman actually manages to build eggman land, but in a weird, rotten way.
Thanks Mate for the mod!
Much appreciated!
XradicalD yeah2.cuz i like japanese.
AccelBlade The japanese, non-japanese lyrics? I like them too.
*I love you these broken subtitles...*
True
It would help to actually know what's wrong with it.
XradicalD they just randomly pop up, then dissapear, you can only read them in about 2 seconds
Hey thanks! Believe me, doing this was a A PAIN, it took me days to get it right.
thanks brother
OH YES ! THANK YOU
thanks for the mod its works to me
Hey thanks man, peace!
Thank you for noticing the details gygas..
OH MY GOD!!!
Well, at least SEGA's reason for not including lyrics is completely understandable. RIP Casey Rankin :'(
The memories are coming back to me... 22 years ago when I was young and FREAKING SMALL! well kinda... And why am I commenting this in my super form!?
The guitar in the ending of the american version is just amazing
the sonic CD animation is my personnel favorite animation yet
i feel that if thet made another animated sonic series it should use this animation, I LOVE THIS ANIMATION
"Heads up Jake, its Sonic Boom!" Got me.
i love that Toot Toot Sonic Warrior is a real song and isn’t just some meme
JP OP+US ED, the best combination!
Love music bro
"Cuz if you try You could do Anything! " that is true
amazing song just great 😀😀😀
Nice music of the game
Japoneses Ver. Is Cool Opening
Wow, I'm 14 and I have better grammar than that.
Gisela Chiapas No, the American version was the best opening!
Alexander Hale yes but I prefer the jpn/pal ver cuz I don’t like the boss theme and game over in the USA ver their too creepy
Random Dude from nowhere I agree
welp
very bad grammar
fix it
thanks!
I find it amusing they weren't able to keep the JP/EU opening and ending songs intact because of copyright, yet could keep the 'Stage Clear' and 'Game Over' themes intact in the 2011 version, despite using the JP/EU opening and ending songs as sources. Good job you made this mod though! ^^
Thanks! About that: It was mostly due to the lyrics being owned by Casey Rankin, who sadly passed away. SEGA however, does own the instrumentals for both the intro and outro, as they are remixes from the game gear sonic games.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they were owning the instrumental tracks because their team composed the songs (M. Ogata and N. Hataya for You Can Do Anything and Cosmic Eternity respectively), Cosmic Eternity never appeared in another Sonic game besides CD, while You Can Do Anything was used as a song in Sonic 2 for Game Gear, so you're partly right.
And you're welcome. ^^
Love this!!
I have this game
Shadic The Hedgehog me too on GameCube
Me too
I could of got the good ending but I got the bad one
Shadic The Hedgehog Hah
both NA and JP/EU had great intro/ending music, but on ingame soundtrack, JP/EU was better in every aspect imho.
(Clears throat) Palmtree Panic (Clears throat) Wacky Workbench
(Clears throat) Tidal Tempest
Remember the NA boss theme?
@Fallen one word: no.
@Fallen Stardust Speedway JP is infinity times better, change my mind
@Fallen same with Palmtree Panic.
THIS was the one I was after! There is another version of the intro where the female vocals don't sound as strong. (watch?v=FCzcHcDXfUw - start at around 38 secs) That version was used in Sonic Jam (SATURN) Your version was from the Mega CD. Well done!
I remember listening to that version of the song somewhere else, and I didn't liked it. Good thing I accidentally kept it original, since I was aiming for the Gamecube port, heh.
If you try, you can do anything!
... honestly, I don't know, but it doesn't stop you from trying.
Heh the japanese good ending sums up the feel that the stage clear theme sounds like it's leading to something spectacular like sonic 06's His world at the final boss where it's sung by a orchestra such wasted potential of a theme
and i love it !!
Adoro os personagens de sonic clássicos!👍👌🔊🎵🎤👏
The US Ending theme gets me every time..
The Upcoming 2022 Sonic Origins Compilation better have the Original Vocals for Sonic CD's Japanese/PAL Opening and Ending Themes!
cool
I hate it how is gets the music while no doesn’t in remake, but I’m glad this mod has it
Love it, cause I actually like the JP version.
Thank you!!!!!!!!
silver fire Gracias amigo! :)
intro japones vocal ahhhh woow i love you
I didnt know CD had mods until I saw the loader on MainMemory’s GameBanana page yesterday.
Leaf Blitz
Now that you mention it, I think I should upload this there too.
Why thank you so much
Not a problem, enjoy!
If you can find a copy of the original game from the mega/sega cd you can pop it in a cd player, the tracks are on the disc. Just dont play track one as its blank.
True, they did.
This was like Sonic mania, you could make a movie out this
The JP bad ending is wow
true but i like this animation style better, you can see than they are similar though
You gotta remember that this Sonic. Classic Sonic I mean doesn't speak. Yet he manages to save his planet and get a lover. That means he's a super intelligent hedgehog that has super speed.
Have you ever seen the OVA?
The reason the lyrics were cut was because around the time of release on PSN, Steam, and etc. the original vocalist had died and I believe they did this to honor her passing.
Seems close, but I feel like that's why new sound alike lyrics weren't added. Seems Sega wanted to remake the opening and ending songs for JP since they didn't have the quality standard they needed. Act Complete is unchanged and still has the lyric piece.
Looks like I was later to the party than I expected. I only recently got Sonic CD 2011 on PC and I had issues with the music changes myself. I obtained a copy of the original opening and modified and converted it myself so it would fit. I may download yours instead since it's more comprehensive and you've done more than I have, and it may save me the effort if yours is as good or better.
I like your version, however I'm curious about if you had any issues with the audio when creating these? My version has the audio pitched/sped up when played in-game. Was wondering if you had any similar issues when creating your modified versions?
I had all sort of issues when I was making this. Mostly due having to use command promp in order to patch back and forth, using audacity to make sure all the songs used had the same length.
I don't remember having problems with the pitch but I did have problem with everything else (Decompiling the video with both songs,, make sure everything was in sync, sometimes it just didn't work, compiling it back, etc)
XradicalD
Sounds like you got a lot more technical than I did. The only reason i really tried is because it seemed like I might be able to get it working if I substituted the video with another in the same format.
I almost want to record some footage of how my version works just for comparison, but I'm not sure I have the tools for it.
Kudos to you regardless.
EuroMIX2 Thank you, I really appreciate it!
come on nerd
Thank you for this mod :D
We need a full blown cartoon with this art style
Thx Nagyon jo, In hungarian i salute you!
You can't tell me that the sneeze at 0:47 its the best thing in the world
teleportation...YEAH!
Is there a way to make these work in Sonic CD 1.0.6 on Android?
I tried replacing the original videos from the obb file, but the game crashes everytime i start a new game
I like
Well, there was a Sonic OVA featuring Metal Sonic and this art style.
Sonic booom, sonic booooom, running always faster, sonic booom, sonic booooom, saving world from disaster ... love it! It is E P I C !
You predicted the epic meme.
Now that's *_epic._*
It's weird cause I prefer the jazzy, slower tempo NA version. It make the scenes more intimate and personal in strange way.
You get the good ending if you:
- Make a good future in each zone (By destroying the teleporters in the past)
- Get all the time stones (Automatically grants good future on every act)
subtitle: get in place
ears: kickin' booty
i trust my ears
Ok, now I CAN'T unhear it!...
