    This job was brutal. This dude makes it look easy and I’m mad about it. Watch this video a couple times before starting and you’ll be pretty well prepared. To mark the holes for the controls I actually put everything on the bike with e-tape where the pins on the controls would go. When I lined everything up where I wanted and righted it down the pins marked the e-tape and that’s where I drilled. Worked pretty well

    I just finished up today, had my bars cut and tapped waiting around for 1fngr to come out with their v4 clutch perch/lever. I tapped them by hand with no vice, just drilled the tap until it bit, then worked it with a wrench and a pipe while sitting on the bars. It was a royal pain in the ass but came out way better than I expected. The other pain in the ass was bending that clutch cable housing. Had to break out my trusty pipe again to work that housing straighter, but the wrench and bar threads broke through the electrical tape and marked up the housing. Not the end of the world, though.
    I appreciate you putting this video together, it really helped. Glad to have the bars on too, they should’ve come like that stock.

    I'm ready to change my stock bars to an LSL X00 tapered handlebar which is very similar to the one by Protaper shown here. In this video, I've noticed that the rubber grips were fitted flush to the handlebar ends. In the OEM bars, the rubber grips sit about 15mm proud from the metal bar tube. 02:34 This is so the bar weights have 15mm embedded into the rubber. Motosouth has opted to go for bar end mirrors and so used that 15mm part to attach his bar end mirrors.
    Motosouth; Would you like to comment and clarify this?

    • @stephenspiteri_zunkus
      @stephenspiteri_zunkus 3 роки тому

      Here’s how it is now flush mounted 26:58 and here 02:36 is how it was originally. I’m truly baffled how you ended fitting them like this. Since you had measured and drilled the positioning holes exactly as the stock bars then you should have ended up with rubber grips proud as stock.

      I wanted them slightly wider. Cutting them stock width should still leave enough room for controls though. Just measure to be safe. 👍

      I put the bars on before cutting them. Then I put the brake master cylinder on as far as it would go before it got to the curve and marked where the locating dowel would be. I measured the stock bar from the locating hole for the brake master cylinder to the end of the bar and transfered that measurement to the ProTaper bar. I found that 3/4" is about all that I could cut from each side before the controls get to the bend. After trimming them 3/4" on each side they were only roughly 1/4" wider than stock width overall.
      I then failed miserably to protect the bendy tube at the lever end of the clutch cable while (un)bending it and put a couple deep scratches in it 😲 A few touches from a Sharpie and you can't see it from 5'....but I still know they're there 😭
      All in all, I'm happy with the outcome and am very grateful for you comprehensive tutorial.

    The best vídeo! Do you recommend Carmichael or Pastrana handlebar? I think that Pastrana model is lower, but i'm not sure if it could be used in this bike.

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  4 роки тому +1

      I went with Carmichael because it’s what a lot of guys recommended. Something a little lower shouldn’t be an issue and may feel even better. Just don’t forget to compare the forward position as well. Some bars are more straight, which could make them feel even lower.

    One question, are the bars still wider than stock after you cut them to size?
    I'm noticing that the middle flat part of the EVO is longer than the stock bar so maybe that is a restriction on getting it the same overall size as stock.

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  3 роки тому

      They are still a little wider when cut the amount I cut

  • @TheMrChaddles
    @TheMrChaddles 3 роки тому

    If you did it again would you cut them at the same length?

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  3 роки тому +1

      Yes. It’s slightly wider than stock but feels great. Any narrower and it would start getting difficult to fit the controls on the flat area of the bars.
