What are the odds! Just searched this and you posted an hour ago. Thanks for the clear and useful vid!
Did you have access to a repair manual to figure this out or just guessed the process? I’m curious about doing the back bumper as well.

This is my 6th Subaru, so I have a pretty good idea on how they are assembled. I do a bunch of trial and error, then make a video of the instructions once I know how it all works. There's a lot less demand for the rear bumper removal, so I haven't filmed one yet. But if you're interested, I have a video of how to remove the rear bumper on an Outback Wilderness on my channel. The process on a Crosstrek will be very similar. Just the clips will be in different spots.

I have a question. That black plastic flap with the rubber front edge at the top of the radiator. You can see it clearly at around 2:47 kind of hanging down. Where is the rubber edge supposed to fit when you put the bumper back on? I tried taking pictures beforehand, but the angle was too weird to see how it is supposed to fit when the bumper is installed. This is driving me crazy, I've had the bumper off twice now trying to make this thing fit properly. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Nice video!
I wonder if the front and back bumpers of the regular crosstrek can be interchanged with the wilderness version?😊

I"m not entirely sure. I know there are some things under the front bumper that are different than other Crosstreks. I haven't removed the back bumper yet, so I'm not sure what is different under there.

Can you post a video demonstrating how to remove just the lower middle trim? Thanks.

Are you talking about the grill in front of the radiator? If so, it should just be held in by tabs/clips. Undoing them and pulling them forward (towards the front of the car) should be all it takes. I'll be taking off the bumper again soon for another project. I'll try to remember to look into that.

just took my bumper off but there is not a second horn by the passenger side fog light....where is the second horn?

    • @wildxtrek

Wilderness models do not have a second horn due to the fog light position being much higher compared to other Crosstrek trims. There is only one horn behind the grill. All other trims have a second horn mounted below the headlight.

Does the bottom plastic part of the bumper come off separately as well? Or is all one assembly

The EXTERIOR cladding comes off in panels. But the main shell of the rear bumper stays intact. If you watch my fog light install video, you'll see what the bumper looks like from the inside and you can see what can be removed by clips and what is moulded in.

Are you going to retrofit it with a Baja kit? Or Metro monkey bars(that’s what I call them:) I’m about to get the 24 Subaru cross track, myself. the main thing I want to do is gain a more significant approach angle on the front end.

At this time, I have no intentions of modifying the front bumper.

Does the bumper break down further into sections? Wondering if the middle can be removed for a winch bumper to be installed.

The black cladding pieces can be individually removed. However, the blue bumper skeleton still is one piece. For a winch, you will need to cut the bumper.
