Keeping a dog on a leash should not be a thing. If you personally can't take care of a dog and teach it manners then don't own one. A well mannered dog is a reflection of its owner. I only put a leash on my dog's harness to protect her from other dogs with shitty owners. Theres no such thing as a shitty dog, only a shitty dog OWNER.
Agreed. Walking my dogue de bordeaux around neighborhoods, it’s the little dogs that are the loudest and aggressive. I leash my dogue just cause I know how shitty some owners are with their untrained dogs.
I have a Dogue de Bordeaux too, they are the nicest dog you can meet, totally not aggressive and not impulsive (while there isn't food around), and well trained they can be incredible
I confirm,i got a female dogue de bordeaux,She was well trained,She even faced a Pitbull for protecting me while the owner let this "Wild Pitbull" alone for some sec After the Pitbull got near to me She made him run away by only waking up (She was a lot bigger than normal) and She was a lot scary either,now 10 years After She died i feel very sad while writing this

What if an aggressive dog is being walked and passes by trying to get at your dog? Most dogs, even well trained ones, will go into owner protection mode, and some serious shit can happen. Ive seen it happen too many times with otherwise well trained and dog friendly dogs. Your Mastiff is great, but he will protect you, if he perceives another dog as a threat, so it doesn't always depend on how well your dog behaves, but how Both or all dogs present behave. Irresponsible owner!

You could use a special leash known as a traffic lead as it is short. That would allow you to work with your dog while still enabling you to NOT break the leash laws or lose the ability to control your dog...
