Hi! Thanks for the detailed review! I think you can use a left-hand and right-hand zipper in a model like your wife's. In this case, you will be able to fasten two identical sleeping bags and sleep together. My wife and I have been successfully using this method for several years now. This adds 7 to 10 degrees of comfort temperature in my experience. Sorry for my English and good luck hiking!

I just checked on their website that these two sleeping bags have a different vabrics set by default.
Lite line 400 set by default: Pertex Quantum 29 g
Xlite 400 set by default: Toray Airtastic 19 g
That's why the xlite is more weting... because weaker fabric
Probably you ordered them with these configuration...
You can chose xlite 400 with Pertex Quantum 29 g like lite line 400 have or another one

I guess worth to note is that if the lighter bag is moist, it might not be so light anymore. And also will not have the same isolation performance as stated. So it might only be better under perfect situations.

Thanks for posting this. I would not buy one now based on your video. Even with the over stuff of your wife's bag, they both still look under filled. You can see the bare (cold) spots and the clumping of the down.

Great video. Nearly all information I need.
I would have liked if you had shown the two sleeping bags in the compression bag for comparrison.
And would you recommend the x-Lite 300 with the hydrophobic filling combined with the water resistend quantum pro material at the outside? Or the lite line 400 with exact the same changes?

Thanks for the video, I'm searching for weeks now what quilt/sleeping bag I want. I learned I can buy this sleeping bag and use it as a quilt also, that way I can test out if I even like quilts. I really like the idea of a quilt but I'm not sure and my family thinks a quilt is no good idea. Also that specific Lite Line Sleeping Bag (Might rather get the Lite Line 300 instead) seems like a good one. Not that expensive, light, versatile.

Buy some wash in down proof and down wash. This will help with your bag absorbing moisture. Also always buy dark colour bags as the dark colour will help the bad dry faster in the sun.

    • @pixxel8637
      @pixxel8637 3 роки тому

But after I wash it with down proof it won't be "coated" as good as if they were hydrophobic down right? Because I don't plan on going on that wet of trips and when I can make it hydrophobic later on I will save the 30€ for now and wash it with that when I think I'll need some more waterproofness. But it probably doesn't work that good?

Thats the reality with extreme ultralight products, you trade usability and durability for some weight savings. I think that in this temperature range it is better to use a quilt. Cumulus Taiga top quilts have better warmth to weight ratio than X-Lite and use more durable materials and no need to mess with zippers. Some people dont like quilts but i have used them in hammocks and on qround and love them.

Very useful video! I'm thinking about getting a Lite Line 200 or 300 with some overfill for more consistency, for 3 season camping/hiking with lows of -3C but also nights of +12C (on a z-lite foam pad). Most people would probably get the 300 or 400 but I'm warm blooded. What do you think? 200 or 300? I want a versatile sleeping bag but am afraid the overfilled 300 will be too warm on most nights.
However after seeing your vid and how nicely it zips open, I think the 300 would be the best all-round.
    Again, great vid!

Captain Camp hey 👋 thanks for the comment,🥶🥶 z-lite and lite-line 200 or even a 300 would be serious to cold for me to go past 0, but like you said it’s al up to the individual persons , I slept in de xlite 400 and it was -2 and I was cold , that for I own 4 quilt/sleeping bags 😬 depending on the weather, my preference is to have a good night sleep and take the weight penalty that comes with it , but still every year my setup seems to change 😂

Do you and your wife find that the comfort temperature ratings from cumulus are fairly accurate. I know it always depends on the individual person but I'd be interested in your experiences anyways. Hey 👋 most important is also the combination of your sleeping pad I combine them with the thermarest xlite or Uber lite if your pad isn’t of a good r value your bag can be as thick and warm you will never sleep wel , for the rating the xlite of my wife comes pretty close to what they say , my bag isn’t specially when it’s a windy night I get really cold I think it’s has the do with the thin fabric used

Hi - great video and very honest so thank you so much for posting such a useful video.
I just ordered a Panyam 450 bag from Cumulus which has a 5mm zip as standard but I changed the inner fabric to the Toray airtastic from pertex 29g standard fabric. Do you think your problem was 100% zip and the thin fabric got damaged as a result or the thin fabric also contributed to the problem and therefore in my case, I should change my order away from the Toray back to the standard heavier pertex even with the 5mm zip?

@@tattooedhiker2813 Thanks for the prompt reply.
I also got in touch with Cumulus after watching your video. They were super helpful (as always) and agree with you.
Basically the 5mm zip has a guard which the 3mm doesn't have so the 5mm can be zipped up from inside the bag whereas the 3mm cannot without the snagging as you showed. So the 3mm zip has to be adjusted BEFORE you get into the bag so you can manually keep the material away from the zip as you move it.
I personally think they should make people aware of this on their website as most hikers would be wanting to open the zip to get into the bag and then zip up once they're inside. Hopefully they will do this as its important for people to know before they order a bag from them and especially as you have the ability on their website to customise your order (but longer time for delivery and costs £14 to change zip to 5mm atm)
They sent me a link to their you tube video which explains about their 3mm/5mm sleeping bag zips:-
      ua-cam.com/video/jgep86iPI5I/v-deo.html
Which again should be linked in on their website which I don't think is currently the case (although the video seems very recent so they maybe just haven't got round to it yet?)
Hope that helps other potential Cumulus customers

Rhawi Dantas 👋 hey it fits in a medium stuff sack from zpacks , don’t now exactly how long and wide that is ? , you also get a nylon stuff sack when you buy the bags but they are on the small side and it’s not easy to fit them in but it’s possible ! Are you ok with this answer ? Any other questions let me now

@@tattooedhiker2813 Thanks for the reply man. I found the zpack on Google and got some measurements: 30cm x 15cm
I think I will be going for the Lite Line 400 as per your recommendation.
      Cheers, keep it up

Rhawi Dantas the zpacks bag is also a rol top bag do that means you can rol it further down and make it even smaller 👍 other brands are RAB , but quite expensive I think cumulus the best value for money, but not the xlite 😉

    Great review ! 👍🏼
I also own a Cumulus : the Xlite model. I decided to go w/o the zipper, mainly because of the issues you’re talking about, plus it makes the bag lighter and easier to use...😉
I also made a review of this ultralight sleeping bag (in french) there : ua-cam.com/video/BbjwKJ7qGVw/v-deo.html
Keep going on mate ! 😀✌🏼

man... Why french???! I'm also proud of my native language, but using anything than en on web means, that your work is often much less useful. Thanks for review, but even autotranslation won't make it usable.

Is the sleeping bag size custom? Is it standard?
