It might sound irrational but if you’re playing on a somewhat powerful pc, for me the key was to set most settings to max/ ultra. This way my gpu is being forced to work at 90-100% and not be limited. I also enabled multithreading using a command, however only use it if your cpu supports it. Transition and landmass shaders seemed to not help at max setting so I set them to around half, still making it so I can be using overlay. Other shaders don’t affect me in any way and I put them all the way up (I set wind to medium but it’s just a preference). I’ve got real world buildings, detailed roads, trees at ultra density, overlay, scenery objects, enabled; rest is disabled. Lod ranges I don’t remember exactly but it’s a little over the defaults, as for ai/mp I’ve got everything to max as I have AI disabled (make sure to disable it as it consumes a shit ton of fps) and only play on a private mp server so there aren’t really any planes to render. Im using ALS, real world advanced weather, x2 anti aliasing, faster loading. So again it might sound weird but at low/medium settings I was getting max 20 fps in the default Cessna 172 at a detailed airport with loads of building and objects all around it, in the A320 it was only 5 with all displays working, now the Cessna performs 3 times better, I’m literally getting up to 60 fps, the A320 is getting up to a little above 20 with all the screens running (btw in the A320 addon make sure to set display quality to 5 - best performance, the more screens are being shown at the moment, the more fps I lose, for me it states a big problem as I have a 21:9 ultrawide monitor) My specs if anyone wondered: cpu: amd fx 8320 gpu: nvidia quadro p1000 16 gbs ram two hdds (RAID 0) windows 10
FG core is not multithreaded, all main components (FDM, AI manager, sound system, NASAL interpreter etc) runs in 1 thread. Many important things like weather, autopilot, NAV displays, PFD etc. runs in the NASAL interpreted mode, and it is very slow. Multithreaded is OSG and scenery loader and it is not nough. Sim stutters, even on powerfull machines stutters on high FPS. You can see popcorn effect on the clouds, when system very slowly generates clouds fields. All these troubles have same base - ancient ineffective singlethreaded core.

Performance on my AMD 5900x / 32 GB RAM / Geforce 3060 is ridiculous. Stuttering every 5 seconds. I would have used this as a lightweight sim while I play Elden Ring, but this way, no.
In my opinion, disabling "cache graphics for fast loading" is a bad idea. With this option you not only have faster loading, but also saved RAM and graphics card memory due to the DDS format for textures. The only contraindication is the lack of hard disk space.
i think you need put this into settings. ''--prop:/sim/rendering/shadows/enabled=false'' or ''--prop:/sim/rendering/shadows/disabled=true'' i dont know wich one true but it need work.
FG is not optimized for multicore CPU, result is fact that needs very fast CPU, core count is irrelevant. Your i3 is not enough. For nice performance You need graphics card with OpenGL support, Intel HD doesn't support this feature. You need better hardware, or old FSX.

good for you. i have bad pc and i am use this settings. sometimes buildings on.

my fps was crap about this so thx!

Even with maximal setting is FG's scenery poor, these settings degrade this sim to the 20 years old some like sim.
yes i know this setting so bad :( but playable
and i like flightgear because all things free and maximum settings = good scenery
