    Fighting this way on the streets is the most beneficial. This wont work with boxing gloves on but bare fist, JKD is the best thing to learn for streets

      @@johnabrams8148 Tommy is 63 years old now. He was a bouncer for 10 years in Glasgow which was the knife crime capital of the world at one point. Tommy doesn’t “spar” in the traditional sense. He just teaches now. The sparring he teaches are to built attributes, timing etc. You don’t really develop those things by doing normal sparring. Normal sparring is just trying to tag each other in a sloppy fashion. It’s mainly for sport. You have no time to be going back and forth when your life is in danger and Tommy stresses that quite frequently. Sparring in the traditional sense can build bad habits. This back and forth affair is not realistic for self defence.
      JKD is meant to stop someone. Not to trade blows with each other. You can’t really “spar” JKD tactics safely without proper safety equipment.
      I would recommend you look up Thomas Marx JKD and John Paul Daily JKD. They are both certified instructors under Tommy. John is in the U.S and Thomas is in Germany. John has been under Tommy for 10 years and Thomas a little longer.
      They both have channels and any questions you have would be better suited for them than me. Singh teaches outdated material Bruce moved away from. He took chi sao and trapping out the curriculum in 1971 and as Inosanto said late JKD (70’s) looked more like kickboxing than anything wing chun related and when Bruce last sparred Wong Sheung Leung in the 70’s when he went back to Hong Kong, Although it was friendly contact was made. Wong said Bruce used “his own method” not wing chun. Wong found Bruce’s kicking and mobility very difficult to deal with.
      But calling JKD kickboxing is doing it a disservice, it’s so much more than that and it’s so much more than MMA. When people claim it’s JKD they have no idea what they are talking about.
      “The majority of people who practice
      Jeet Kune Do are mixed up, they think it should be a part of Wing Chun, a part of MMA, a part of Thai boxing, a part of wrestling, you know, a part of Wing Chun, which this is completely incorrect. You don't go from style to style, you go from distance to target or target to distance. Longest weapon to the nearest target and the most direct and efficient route possible, that is Jeet Kune Do.”
      - Tommy Carruthers
      “People fail to realize Bruce moved beyond technique. Once you understand the goal is to hit primary targets in the shortest time possible. All the fluff can be cut away. So you don't have to learn new techniques. You find better safer direct and indirect ways to attack these points. The rest of your time is spent training your body to refine this process. Tommy has shown us the way. I want to do my best to display the art the way Bruce intended it to be.” - John Paul Daily

      @@johnabrams8148 great reply by the way. I’m used to have a lot of smart asses thinking they know what they are talking about. The JKD is a mixed art and Bruce was all about mixing the arts is a false narrative that has been pushed for decades and people won’t spend the time doing the research to find out the truth.
      Tommy is the closest person I’ve ever seen to Bruce Lee. He’s so close in fact that Jesse Glover, Bruce’s first student said out of all the people he’s seen over the decades he’s never seen anyone come close to Bruce’s power, words or explosiveness until he met Tommy.
      There is a video on here with Jesse talking about meeting Tommy. I think it’s called in the footsteps of the dragon or something but if you just look up Jesse Glover Tommy Carruthers is should come up.

    Ty Long I can see where you would make your very incorrect assumptions based on watching normal sparring matches. Sparring with Sifu Singh is not a normal sparring match. I have stood in front of alot of talented fighters and win or lose I could always play my game and use my skills thst is not the case with Sifu Singh. He doesnt allow you to be good but I assure you they were both trying. I know both guys in this video and they are both very talented martial artist. The level in which Sifu Singh will Jeet you is more than just physical, when he stops you before every beat you can't play your game. You can't build momentum to try and throw a second strike because you are hit on or before the first one. The lack of kicks was the same for me when I spared him and I love to kick but when you can't get a Jab off without being intercepted your not kicking. His ability is to remove yours he disrupts everything you are trying to do. without feeling the pressure of what is being displayed you will never understand.

      Bro trust me, I have sparred with actual students of instructor Singh, I know what I'm talking about here so pay attention. What they are doing is A: Sparring with boxing gloves on, JKD is trained intelligently and trusted by legit martial artists and tested in real street fights, deriving from very ancient martial art traditions. You dont always have to beat the shit out of each other in order to learn the same skills necessary when the stakes are raised to that level. But you could come and try to throw some hands with me find yourself hitting air, getting the wind knocked out of your stomach and findign yourself unable to take me down, while I get takedowns and proceed to totally out gun you on the feet. This is leading into B: B is simply that the forms of JKD are not forms per se, but learned adaptations to real pressure and real sparring. You have simply no idea what you are talking about if you tell me that the way this martial art is trained is not realistic. JUST LIKE BJJ, all skills in JKD are earned through tests against active resisting opponents beating the shit out of you legitimately. I get thrown around, mounted, decked in the face. Dude you have no idea what youre talking about. It's kickboxing, full MMA sparring. Fuck you man, come out here and touch gloves with me if you want to feel it but until then realize you are wrong. Peace

    What is the music for? ... This has got nothing to do with JKD... Once he was down JKD would run... You defend yourself, you don't punish, there is no vengence... JKD is not a style for competition purposes... "I took the arm, I didn't want to be too violent". Why take arm when you could leave the scene? ... How can you claim defence when you are the aggressor? ... Why are his strikes inaffective? Why are his students so inaffective? Why are they so poorly trained? ... By failing to properly train your students you maintain superiority... There are no masters of JKD or we are all masters of JKD, read the book, don't follow people who rely on followers... Originate, don't imitate... Artists originate the work, imitators lay paper on the work and trace it... Be an artist.

    The big guy was not blocking shots that he clearly saw coming. That's not sparring, that's just being a moving punching dummy.
    Also, no offense to Bruce but although Ali's foot bouncing worked well for him in boxing(and looked cool), there's a reason you don't really see it in the MMA. Notice the short guy was caught on the up bounce a couple of times. IOWs, when the other guy moved in, he was caught with his weight in the air and couldn't move away as quickly. Against a good fighter, that split second is all it takes to get pummeled. (Fly like a butterfly and you'll get stung like a bee).

    • @Kamingo170
      @Kamingo170 4 роки тому

      If you know how to move with your bouncing like a taekwondo or karate practitioner then it is extremely effective to mask movement. The big guy was just bouncing high back and forth, that's not how it's properly done. There's a reason the top MMA fighter bounce...(Conor McGregor, Stephen Thomson, lyoto machina, Jose Aldo etc)

    First you need to learn how to keep your feet on the ground when you punch, some people call it rooting. Keeping your hands up would help if you want anyone who knows a little about fighting to give you money for the DVD. And where did you learn that throw the playground in middle school. This is not JKD or any kind of martial art, you should try checkers for a few years before you think about chess.

    Nice. I can see how the jam kick could work as a ‘disruption/breaking rhythm’ on the street. Also, lots of movement rather than the static approach taken by many WC practitioners - I know you’re JKD, just saying

      Singh gives one direction and one direction only - hit me
      The reason you dont see "hitting back" is because he is Jeet every time. It's a skill level many aspire to but few attain
      This is real attacks failing in the face of skill

    • @DylansTracks
      @DylansTracks 10 років тому

      Well, to hit someone, you have to throw multiple punches in different combinations, multiple kicks in different directions. Maybe the guy was just gun shy to really fight back.

      Jay Cooper
      the entire video, he tries to throw a straight lead and a simple cross. not one single kick... was he a beginner in boxing and is a south paul?

    • @DylansTracks
      @DylansTracks 10 років тому

      Jay Cooper and one more thing. if someone openly let me hit them two or three times. I would have knocked them out. I am a direct lineage student going on four and a half years. This guy did not try to give him a run for his money, it was totally a unfair match.

    Who he is up against is a ragdoll. I can't tell if the teacher here is good but yeah. Edit: second opponent he does much better. Ah ... The low strikes are to the groin. I like his version of the intercepting fist he uses some good kicks. The second opponent isn't a pro, but I could see some skill ... Acknowledgement!

    Some good stuff. But there aren't a lot of intercepting strikes. Need more. And drop the leg kick. It's not very effective and it leaves an opening. This is not Muay Thai.

    • @jovanleon7
      @jovanleon7 8 років тому +1

      California Combatives Club 209 MT leg kick needs to be landed repeatedly with extreme power in order to be effective. JKD's essense is to finish a fight asap, meaning as effective as possible. Leg kick has no place in JKD. JKD's leg kick is the stop kick to the knee that can actually break someone's leg in one strike when applied viciously. Now that's effective.

      Low kicks like that are just to annoy the opponent and keep him on his toes. It's one of the fundamentals of JKD. Maybe you want to do some research about that.
