G.Bottesini - Elegia n.1 in Re maggiore

Giovanni Bottesini, as a refined and sensitive composer, wrote three elegies for double bass and piano, later also orchestrated, in a sober and melancholy romantic style. The first, in D major, perhaps the best known of the three, seems to be a melody that brings back the memory of a person who is no longer there. The writing seems to refer almost to a slow expiration of the breath until the abandonment of death, over a passionate wandering of memories and feelings.
Recorded in Padova in November 2022 to Alberto and Giovanna Monico's house. Many thanks for their delicious friendship, supporting us with the beautiful Steinway and Sons piano, and the quiet place to play.
Giancarlo Pavan play a beautiful instrument and bow made by Adriano Massari, famous italian bow maker that demostrate here a fine art also as a luthier.

Giovanni Bottesini , compositore raffinato e sensibile, scrisse tre elegie per contrabbasso e pianoforte, in seguito anche orchestrate, in uno stile romantico sobrio e malinconico. La prima, in Re maggiore, forse la più conosciuta delle tre, sembra essere una melodia che riporta alla memoria di una persona che non c'è più. La scrittura pare rifarsi quasi a un lento spegnimento del respiro fino all'abbandono della morte, dopo un peregrinare appassionato dei ricordi e dei sentimenti.
Registrato a Padova, in novembre 2022 presso la casa di Alberto e Giovanna Monico. A loro un grazie per la deliziosa amicizia, per il supporto con lo splendido pianoforte Steinway and Sons, e per il luogo tranquillo dove suonare.
Giancarlo Pavan suona un contrabbasso e un arco di Adriano Massari, famoso archettaio italiano che qui dimostra una raffinata arte come liutaio.
