Such a versitile baritone with a beautiful colour and a sounding lower register. One of my all time favorites

Although he sang primarily baritone roles, Grundhaber had a low extension to his instrument that made it possible for him to sing roles like HOLLANDER & BARAK as well as IAGO & RIGOLETTO. I saw him several times in Hamburg (mid 1990s) as well as in Wien (as IAGO) in 2008 when he was in his early 70s, his wonderful instrument still in remarkable shape. No operatic baritone voice that I ever heard LIVE, not even Bruson or Panerai, was in such fine condition at that age. Around that time Grundhaber also sang PRINCE OTTOKAR in A DVD of DER FREISCHUTZ. This role although usually sung by a baritone is written in the TREBLE CLEF & includes an exposed high G sharp which Grundhaber easily managed.
Being in his mid 80’s now (he is still alive as far as I know) he may finally have retired but would a Liederabend still be possible? This wouldn’t surprise me at all.

    vocalità troppo ''aperta'' moderna ...
la voce e' veramente bella ,peccato per la scelta di una tecnica poco convincente !
bravo per la bellezza della voce !
