I do love the action 4 color contrast. Bathe colors are really sharp and give a nice overall presentation but it gives a slightly distorted look in that you appear to be farther away. The color payoff on the action 4 is so nice that it would be hard to pass it up. I do really like that the pocket 2 and Zv-1 have you up really close and that makes it seems more accurate and life-like for lack of a better description. I was surprised that the pocket 2 actually made the sky look completely white. As always I wish I could take two of the best features and put them together in one camera. It would be great to have the color clarity of the action 4 mixed with the more realistic shots captured by the pocket 2 and zv-1.
Yes the pocket 2 is not very good for dynamic range even in d cinelike. The pocket 3 seems to be much better, will be doing an update video at some point adding it to the mix. The pocket 3 pretty well eliminates the zv1 in my opinion, at least for my purposes. Pocket 2 is so much smaller and lighter but no contest in picture quality. The action 4 is really quite good for an action camera and probably the easiest to use, but the audio is not on the level of the Sony or the pocket cameras (using an external mic at least).
Same question I had and these were the same opinions in my mind along with ZV-E10 with 11mm with Active Steady although costliest of the bunch. Thanks for this test do make more of such videos and test. Cheers!
Thank you! I’d like to try one of those and a zv-e1 also. Much bigger setup but the stabe seems to be better on the ZVs than their regular counterparts
@@budgetmagnate2430 Yes I think Sony implements more aggressive stabilization in ZV series may be considering them as walk and talk cameras. Just the crop is bit too much and I also noticed due to that the sharpness decreases in active and dynamic steady shot
The ZV1 would look a lot better, if you take off the add on lens. The less glass, the better. I’m not usually pointing the camera at me, so I don’t need the wide look.
I actually tested that when I first got the adapter, and there is essentially no difference except for a little distortion from the wider lens. 2 feet from a 50 inch display, I wouldn’t be able to tell except for the different focal length. I did have the sharpening turned way down on the zv1 though, if I put it back up you get a sharper image
Action 4 wins and its not even close. You cant tell a huge difference on you but everything behind you is blurry af on everything but the 4. Even the trees in the way back look crisp. On the others its just a blended blur
The blur can be removed on the zv1 by stopping down the aperture, perhaps I should try that side by side sometime. The aperture is fixed on the djis. Overall I think the action performs really well even compared to the zv1 with a bigger sensor and better lens.
Great revue. I purchased the pocket 2well over a year ago and hardly used it. It is very capable but not fast enough in various situations and the screen too small. Main problem for me is that it is not tough enough and I fear I will break it in a rush to grab a shot. I have been using the action 3 recently and I feel more confident.
Neither of them are good in low light really. The ZV1 is best, followed by the pocket 2, action 4 is much better than the Action 1 and apparently better than action 2&3 but the 1.7 aperture on the pocket 2 seems to help it vs the action 4
Nice job with the video comparison! The video centric Action 4 is better in terms of videography, but I think it should be. The ZV1 & Pocket 2 were first released 3 yrs ago. I have the ZV1 and have been using it as my everyday carry camera. I love the 4k, but wish it had better hand held video stabilization. Using a gimbal gives me the Action 4’s stabilization but it comes at the expense of bulk and having to carry around a separate apparatus. This is why (for video) the Action 4 is interesting. My concern is photography. My ZV1 shows strength in photography in a broad range of lighting conditions, (indoor lighting: f1.8, 1in sensor, at 24mm), great auto focus, and good burst shooting (24 fps!). If I made the switch to the Action 4 I’m wondering if the drop off when shooting photos would make me regret the decision?
Good point, for photography it should be no contest for the ZV1. I mostly only shoot video. If I’m wanting to take a pictures I’ll generally use either a bigger camera or just my iPhone.
Action 4 wins in the form factor hands down and also has great image quality but it still looks like footage from an action camera. Personally, I love the pocket 2 the most. Coming from various action cams I used to the Pocket 2, I only miss the wider FOV and sometimes the wider dynamic range to capture the details in the sky. but, if you are like me who shoots daily stuff including my wife in the footage, Pocket 2 will do MUCH MUCH better job on skin tones and my wife really appreciates it over any action cams
all 3 are fine for my eyes honestly. another thing i came across on David Harry Uncut is those foldable samsung phones have amazing on-board audio to a point you don't necessarily have to use an external microphone (i was surprised too, but no joke, it's actually good this time) which might be a bigger benefit than a slightly nicer image. i'm never happy with the sound of these little shirt-clipped wireless lavaliers, they all sound like my ears are plugged up. kind of restricted? hard to explain. to me the dji do-it-all, all the røde wireless go-s, and hollyland microphones all fall into this category, with a somewhat notable exception of the sounddevices a20 mini paired with a dpa 4060 condenser lavalier, but that one costs a bit.
I’ll have to check those out! Yes audio is most important really. I agree none of these Clip ons sound very good but they’re at least an improvement over the onboards and isolate the voice better. I have an mke2 sennheiser that sounds a fair bit better to me, but the wireless go doesn’t like it, apparently the dji mic system is the same. I do have the sennheiser wireless packs that work well with it, but they’re much more cumbersome especially on the receiver - not suited to use with a small camera, so I wind up going with the most convenient option. My thinking is a tentacle track e with the sennheiser lav and a sync e on the camera would be ideal, may try those out down the road.
I use Go 3 and Pocket 2. I can't wait for the Pocket 3 to come out. I have a GoPro 11, but I never use it. Very bad overheating. My wife has zv-1 mark ii. The stabilization is very bad. Action 4 looks good, but I'm still holding out for Pocket 3. There have been a few leaked images of it recently.
Each of these cameras are nice to have in your arsenal, but the Sony ZV series has served more of a diverse roll and image quality for me. The Pocket series are very niche IMO.
Yes the ZV is pretty versatile. Osmo action wins for ease of use. For me, the Pocket 2 was sort of a sweet spot between an action camera and a real camera, pocketability/image quality/stabe. The action 4 has pretty much negated most of that. The pocket 3 may be the new sweet spot for that but we’ll see.
@@budgetmagnate2430 Well will see the next Pocket camera is coming you this year. Having a 1"in sensor, may be it for the switch, at least for videos. Pocket series are very convenient for grab and go, without hassles.
Great video!!! I have the Action 4 and the Pocket 2 and I can see pocket 2 is kinda cool and suuuuuper compact but you are limited by the baterry, after getting my action 4, oh man! I will bring it everywhere! but keeping my pocket 2 as secondary hehehe.
You are quite right. I ordered a pocket 3 on launch (which I rarely do) and am quite impressed with it. Will be doing an update and add the pocket 3 to the mix for sure
@@budgetmagnate2430 Yes I’m thinking of buying it too, it seems like perfect combination of everything a vlogging camera needs although with few compromises but the end result ease of use and that tiny unoticiable size are best in class nothing seems to have all of these
Great review...thank you. Love from India. thank god i bought dji action 4.
Thank you! It’s a fun camera
Action 4 wins clear, hands down
Overall really it does look quite good even compared to the ZV1 with better optics. I’m quite pleased with the action 4
@@budgetmagnate2430 Would've loved to see it with decreased sharpness.
The Action 4 is by far the best picture. Which is good, as I just bought one! Amazing value at £289! Thanks for the tip on the mic.
Happy to help!
finally professional comparison action4 vs pocket2. thank you
Thanks for watching!

Glad to hear and I agree about the small screen and how fragile the pocket is
I have the Action 4 now and very happy with it. Cheers@@budgetmagnate2430
Nice test ! Hope to see the test under low light circumstance. I guess Pocket 2 will win.
Great idea, I will do that! I think the ZV1 would win that but we'll see
The action 4 looks the most pleasing.
What about low light performance
We are very interested in that
Action 4 user...only useful for outdoors..indoors low light sux

@MelvinYeo I agree. Even the ZV1 isn’t very good for indoors without added light.
@@budgetmagnate2430 I'm using zv e10. Good low light. Zv1 is 1inch sensor that's why
this was just what I needed! I have 2 of these, getting Action 4 now

The action 4 looks better, but Sony zv1 blur the background. Maybe crank up the aperture on the zv1 so you dont get so blurry background
That’s a good idea, would be good to try that side by side with equivalent apertures adjusted to sensor size. Will do some math

they sure are milking it! the pocket 2 is going to be 4 years old. and i still use my pocket one from 5 years ago! not much difference!
Some people seem to like the original pocket better too
Id like an action camera with the FOV of the Pocket 2...
Osmo action 1 in Dewarp has a similar FOV to the pocket 2.
