- This is why you don't railfan close to the tracks! Roadrailer trailer dragging a side rail down the track as it pulls hard up the hill into Clymers, Indiana. Filmed on 2023-05-09
The triple crown train is a great illustration of how many trucks 1 train takes off the highways.
Bingo! I used to preach this all the time. I once watched a loose metal tie down strap on a centerbeam, flailing around in the air and subsequently slam into a signal hit a good 10 feet from the rail. It put a massive dent in the hut. Had it been a human, it would’ve cut the person in two! Don’t stand close to the tracks, and ALWAYS keep an eye on every car in the train. It’s two mile long accident waiting to happen.
You Nailed It. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Many fans ignore my warnings and I was a conductor for 37 years in So Calif. I've seen it all. Additionally....Always be Aware of Your Surroundings, ALWAYS ! 'At Any Time, On Any Track, In Either Direction'!
Hey I was the conductor waving on the 14J! Made my day finding out I made it into a video lol. Good catch on that 255 dragging equipment
Better then that is being nine years old and watching a boxcar door fall from a boxcar of a passing freight. even the conductor was shocked as the caboose passed by it. if mom and I been closer we been surely killed. expect the unexpected.
Way to go Indiana! Tracks seem well-maintained because I saw no cars swaying from side to side. Also, no graffiti. Wow! That's unusual.
Conductor walks the Train so it would be Interesting to know when this occurred because the Yard would have probably picked this up. Definitely Dangerous. 🤔
Yes and flying tarps that can rip down signal posts 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
my grandma's second husband was an engineer on a train and he always told me that you need to stop way away from the gates because if there is a derailment your dead he also said to make sure you have a way out so if you see a derailment you can get away from it because a train has so much weight pushing it, it won't stop and it will take out anything in front of it
YES!!!! Finally! Not only do you encourage the proper way to Railfan, you also provide viewers with a PROPER VIDEO of the trains using alternate angles and proper edits! You are the first channel I’ve seen using nice techniques so the viewer doesn’t get bored looking at one angle of the passing train! Nicely done!
In 1979 I was 1 of a 4 person gaurd chosen to ride a military train from Ft. Stewart to Eglind AFB. On night one the train stopped on the outskirts of the Baldwin yard. During my shift to walk the length of train it was on my way up towards the front end when I barely heard an approaching train backing out of the yard coming towards me. I tightened up against the flat car that I was guarding while allowing the baking train to pass. It was dark and fortunately my eyes had adjusted to the low light. While the train passed by something caught my eyes as I looked towards the yard lights exposed a metal strap pinched in a boxcar door coming towards me. Part was dragging against our military train while the tail drug the ground. I knew going under a flat car didn't offer much protection while the strap end was dragging and jerking around. I scurried to the safety where two flat cars were connected and went between them then ducked under the coupler. Seconds later I heard a scratching sound of a heavy gage band going by. That train stopped a few cars further. I was curious to get a closer look and walked down to investigate closer. The metal band was about 1 1/2" wide and thicker that a can. I couldn't bend it by hand.
Safe railfanning is an under appreciated art and I can imagine one of the reasons so many rail operators have discouraged it over the years. Seeing the Conductor wave at you tells me how much respect they have for you, based on the respect you have shown to them. That told me the whole story in one wave! 👍
8896 looking good coming thru the gate! Chooooo chooooo!
Very very good message to put out. Never ever trust that a given train doesn't have defective or dragging equipment sticking out, especially in these days of cut-to-the-bone maintenance budgets. They still aren't common, but all it takes is one to kill you.
That's quite an efficient way to move freight with those semi trailers linked together like that. neat
Be careful there! Someone once told me that if there’s one train you don’t want to get struck by it’s a road railer. They’re so quiet. Lol
Great job with the videos! No crazy panning and zooming. Nice smooth transitions from one scene to the next. The way I like. 👍
You always have the best quality videos!
My rule of thumb when railfanning is to focus on the direction that the train is coming from so trouble doesn't sneak up behind you.
First time I've seen road trailers on the rails. Thanks for sharing.
