I agree. I would take the 2024 filter. Personally I use Napa gold, but I now want one made in the USA.. I try to avoid any products made in China, but of course, that's pretty tough to do. I just have a problem buying anything made by our enemy.
I would figure the newer filters would have better filtration than a filter from the 1990's. In the 90's there wasn't VVT components to protect, and auto manufacturers were not pushing 7,500 mile oil change intervals. Thanks for the video!
Just a heads up on the "new" filter. The rubber O-ring is not held tight in the groove. During installation the O-ring can slip off and cause a massive leak. We had it happen several times here at the dealer. Now we add a little grease in the groove to hold it in place,
I purchase a WIX-XP, Purolator ONE, and a KIA Filter for my 2017 KIA Sorento. All were manufactured in one of the three MANN-HUMMEL plants in South Korea.
Good morning Pete, super video. I enjoyed it. I may have to use one of the newer AC Delco on my Chevy. Thanks and keeps the videos coming my friend. 😎☕☕
@@WhipCityWrencher Hey Whip, got new ones for you if you like. All entry level filters. Eco Gard X2500, Purolator tech TL 22500, Napa Proformer 27502. Lmk.All new in box.
@@WhipCityWrencherthey are the tall version of the PF48, LS Engine I presume, 2007 Classic Silverado (2005 body) and beyond. You can change the thread adapters on the oil pans on the older LS Engines so they will use the PF48/63
Great Job, Pete, thanks for sharing, John! I don't like the bypass valve in the leaf spring design. Except for that they are all made of good components and are assembled well. I'd go with the oldest one.
I used AC Delco filters exclusively on my 2007 Pontiac G6 never had an engine issue with it. Just change the oil whenever the computer told me and it always went approximately 4,000 mi
Nice comparison Whip, and thanks to John (no Fram) from Yonkers for the filters. I don't like that Champ Labs/ACDelco has removed the outer auxiliary plate from the baseplate. I read "hearsay" that it was because there was some issue with mounting of some new GM. I think it much more likely to save money. The extra plate is to make installation easier in hard to see/reach locations, it works. All the filters have plenty of flow, so not an issue. I know you can't do it now but would like to see a flashlight test on the newest ACDelco, I'm thinking you might see light in the bypass seal area. All the ACDelco look ok to me. Thanks for the vid, have an excellent weekend.
@@WhipCityWrencher Good deal Whip! Actually, any Champ Labs with that metal to metal bypass seal area would be great. You have piqued my curiosity since you started doing those flashlight tests.
Interesting - thanks to the donor and thanks for your effort! 😃👍 Although the "spiral wound inner core" is a lie for the new ones I consider all of them as good and well usable.
I'd take the old 1999 filter anyday. Metal end and core much more solid. Will hold up a lot better if the oil change is neglected also. Plus I'm sure it was not made by Champ, like the newer ones are
The 2024 Baseplate and Nylon Core is insane for flow rates.. I do prefer the closed end caps though. I wish all new Filters were made like the 2024 AC Delco with a closed back plate.
This was one of the most interesting comparisons yet. Personally I prefer the metal core over nylon of the oldest one. Have used the older filters before on my older trucks. My supplier recently stopped carrying AC / Delco filters & now only has Baldwin. I also prefer the bypass valve of the older filter.Sometimes I wish we could combine some of the features of the older filters with the newer ones. I like that the newer filters have more threads on base plate as well as more inlet holes. Nice to see no sloppy glue or assembly work.
Not sure if the pf63 changed specification or not but the bypass pressure on several applications was raised a few years ago. At least one short vs long filter ( with the same thread/gasket) no longer have the same bypass rating.
Those two new ones are probably champ filters , what a great design with the nylon cage , no question about oil flow like luvers not being punched out completely.
I stoppet using these on my 2018 Chevy cruze they were stamped made in China I got them off amazon ,Also the ones I got at Walmart were cheaply made and made in China . I think getting them from the dealer probably your best choice
Thats been a real problem in the last number of years if your referring to counterfeit parts, made to look like the original manufacture part but is a knock off. And ordering off of some site like Amazon allows for any sort of scumbagery to take place. Counterfeit parts is a HUGE business that would have been almost non existent at one time.
All three made by Champion, just different iterations. Still would not use those newest E-Core versions that allow dirty oil to get by the metal t0 metal interface of the end cap and the leaf spring/bypass valve. Remember your flashlight test on that.
I always used Ac Delco oil filters on my 1996 Chevy 1500, until right after an oil change I had a cold start rattle. Switched to Wix, and it hasn’t happened again.
Looks like GM /AC Delco added the extra holes for better oil flow as the 3.6 liter engine is a soot monster, originally they was recommending the AC Delco Gold oil filter for the 3.6 on several models, but they are more costly
I don't perceive much improvement in the newer ones, Whipman!

I'm not sure the number of holes is significant. I've noticed that very good German filters (Hengst, Mann, Mahle) tend to have fewer holes, sometimes only 4 or 5.

its a blend with cellulose so its not unusual for cellulose to get darker because of oxidation, same as paper that you leave out for 20 years. it looks in good shape however oxidation tends to weaken the material over time like old news papers tend to be crumbly
Thanks for the vid. Everyone raves about number of inlet holes, yet many OE designs make due with just 4-5. I'm not convinced more is necessarily better. More holes means a weaker baseplate and less sealing surface for the ADBV to form a good seal. More holes doesn't mean more flow actually occurs either since the media is generally the most restrictive element. Just my 2 cents.
I gave up on AC Delco parts after i bought spark plugs and on the box it said made in Japan. Makes me sick that most of GM vehicles and part's are from over seas. And they wonder why the quality is s**t.
Thanks Pete. I thought this would make a great video. Definitely the new one. High flow. 😊🇺🇸. Making oil filters great again. ❤
